In short, I'm freaked out a little. Might try the salons near ML tonight. And then tomorrow head to other area of town. No idea how to get taxis, if it's safe to get around at night, or if I can bring a girl back all night or just short time.

Bahir Dar is not a fun place for mongering like Hawassa (report to follow) or Addis. If there are hidden gems, I never found them. I visited 3 MPs scattered all over town:

The first, called Amey, is located in a small shopping center right next to Jacaranda (left side facing the lake). Been here at least a couple of times, always the same 2 ladies, likely in their early 30's, both not bad looking. One seems to be the operator, but both provide. Massage fee is 300 (high), full service with lady 2 (non operator) was 400, total damage 700. Next time I took lady 1 (operator), her massage skill was better than lady 2 and it was done on a professional table, with vital areas fully covered all the time. I assumed she doesn't do extras, but at the end she asked to massage the sacred regions and I said ok. At the end she surprised me by asking for 700, she claimed massaging sacred regions is extra 400 (and that FS is available for an extra 1000, ha!) Told her she should have quoted that before touching, no way in the world I would pay 400 for a HJ. After I firmly refused she took the 300 and asked me to be a regular customer. Probably would be back in a pinch.

Next is 'Amizing' (they probably meant Amazing); from Delano hotel, walk straight north along the road by the park, the parlor is located on fifth road branching westwards, near the corner (turn left, and the parlor will be on the right). This is your typical Addis type parlor experience, decent lineup of 4 - 6 ladies (good quality selection). Fee structure is 200 + 400 for full service. I like the place for its value and the fact that the ladies are not sharky. I have had 2 good experiences, one average, and one poor (very rushed).

Third is located in the so-called expatriate territory. From Our Coffee cafe located at the corner of A3 & Belay Zeleke, walk north on Belay Zeleke towards lake Tana. At the bend, take the diagonal left turn into the residential area (towards Felege Hiwot Rd). Not far in you will see a sign for Hiwot massage to the right, follow it. This is a weird parlor, essentially a residential house, where the owner 'leases out' a side room for sinning. You have to knock and wait awkwardly at the gate. Massage lady was hot, but the room was the filthiest I have ever seen, the pilllow was untouchable. After a really shitty massage (lady had no skill or experience), the lady did not change the sheet, just straightened it up. To make it worse, the towel I used to wipe the greasy shit off me (no water for shower), she just refolded and put on top of the ones I thought were clean. Essentially they don't seem to wash anything here. I tried to complain but she didn't speak a word of English. By the way, the lady wanted 1200 for extra (massage was 200). Absolutely not worth visiting.

Interesting experience. The university girl / coffee ceremony / you name it scam is as old as mongering in Addis itself. Most hotels I've stayed at in Addis are GF, including your next destination, Hilton. Even though some list extra charge for a guest, I have never been asked to pay even for overnight stay.

Its posted here a lot: locals will pay 200 (maybe) we'll pay 500 or thereabouts. But locals won't consider that kind of place.

Recently there are a set of freelance girls that start at $250-300, there's NO downside to girls asking this money. They can always go down in price if they need the business. They're usually a bit better groomed, speak good english etc, but still its way too much a chunky figure. I think you paid fully for long time, although I'm a short time hound myself, so not sure what the overnight fee would be. I can't see it being more than 1,000,1,500 for Beyonce-alike quality.

On the street behind the cupcake place on Edna mall there's a massage parlour, then there's Grace MP up the road a bit, and another three withing 5 minutes. All around 500+200 for a really bad massage but a great ride.

The other trick for these guys is to try and find out where you are staying (Harmony in your case, great breakfast at that hotel, beats the usual firfir crap) and then they'll claim to work there (what a coincidence! Now we're friends.) and they'll say they work in the Kitchen or porter or whatever, they've seen you in the hotel some time. Never tell these guys where you're staying, or better yet, make something up and see what they say.

But my sympathies in this case, you only had a short stop over time and its a tough environment.

This has attempted scam has happened on an off on every visit I've made for the last decade. This is also most likely where you will end up if you ask a taxi driver to take you to some girls their commission is worth twice your fare.

Blue Nile hotel is a huge complex not just a building and in its second floor the is a massage but girls seat in the lobby. Each floor has a lobby which is a living room. Price for massage is 300 and 700 for sex.
