I don't know why you guys are having trouble finding Mercy massage. From Dembel either take a taxi or walk until you find the sign post on the right side. You can't miss it. There have been an number of reports from myself and others on the spas in this area of the city. Three new spas opened up in the last month and so decided to sample the services on offer.

It is hard to believe that the number of spas in the city continues blossom. One cannot help but notice new signs for this spa or that spa along Bole, Meskel Flower and for some reason down behind the Bole Medialem Cathedral where I counted over ten in a 3 block radius. Sadly though the service remains relatively consistent and not in a good way. Most of the spas are mediocre with very basic massage being provided by young inexperienced masseuses with less than a year of training and really only basic understanding of how to give a good sensual massage that is worth coming back for. Extras are there but it is for the most part mechanical. Sadly I have yet to find the spa that offers a full line of extras that is truly customer oriented with a high level of quality. I guess for that I have to go to Bangkok. In observing how business works here, I am not surprised as it seems that if you need to get house fixtures, you go to one place and there are 15 stores selling the exact same stuff for the same price. So it goes with the local spa industry in Addis with the few exceptions such as the Boston Spa where extras are not on offer. If anyone does have experience with high quality spa and extras then please do share! But I am digressing.

Apple Spa. This is located off Behind the Cathedral area off the road to the Toyota Moenco Dealership. Turn left at GodFathers Pizza and go one block and you won't miss it. Standard spa for the neighborhood with 2-3 masseuses. I tried the aroma massage as the massage table was occupied. Quality of massage was a 6 but had a good attitude wanting to please. She was happy to give my ass a good massage and was willing with guidance to do a bit more which I like. Her English was poor but tried to overcome the language barrier. Asking if I wanted extra she was surprised that I said next time asking why and could not really understand why I would not have. I asked her about other extras and she would not take off her top or do anything beyond the HJ. YMMV and perhaps I was just not into it but felt that it lacked character and was fairly mediocre. The only plus side was that the masseuse was friendly and nice and with a bit more effort and engagement more could have been on offer if I returned and became a regular. 200 for aroma. 150 for swedish and 100 for extra. Would I go back, probably not. There was just not anything special about the place.

Tze Garden or something. It is located directly across from the Moenco Dealership entrance about 100 meters after the Godfather Pizza on the right hand side. The spa has a Chinese name as it is right next door to the Chinese Dentist. This place has a bit more character as it is back off the street down a dirt road and just a little bit more rough but clean. Aroma was 200 and the Swedish was 150. A very thin young masseuse gave me a good massage may be a 6. 5/7 with some good ass massage and with some guidance a bit more. Extra on offer for 100. I politely declined but said next time. I liked her attitude and she had decent English and so could communicate. I think that more would be on offer if I wanted it as she enjoyed the 5 minute massage that I gave her. One way I test the waters is to see if the masseuse would like for me to give them a bit of a massage. Nothing sexual just a quick back rub or hand massage. I have found that the masseuses who are receptive to this tend to be more open to extras of all sorts both his and hers. The other masseuses also seemed friendly as well when chatting with them. They had music playing in the background that was an eclectic mix of new agey relaxation combined with bluesy Christmas music. A bit surrealistic. This place has some character which I like and seems to have more potential if you are willing to make the investment and go a few times. I would probably go back just to see what opportunities might arise.

Linda Massage. Location is as you come down Bole Telcom from Edna Mall turn left at the Parisienne Cafe and go straight for about 300 meters you will see signs. I was disappointed with this place. Attitude as not great. Mediocre. Massage again was aroma which I now know that I don't like was boring uninspiring and she really could not communicate at all in English. 200 for Aroma. 100 for Swedish and 100 for extra. I would not go back.

On many of these it is YMMV but the consistent mediocrity is a bit depressing. Please do share if you have had better luck. The review on the Mercy Massage has potential and will check that out. I think I need to get back to BKK for a week of indulgence and pampering.
