Hi. Does anyone know of any self-catering style apartments or rooms to rent for about a week in Addis, ideally reasonably central? I've tried Airbnb but nothing really jumps out. There are plnety of small guest houses but I was looking for somewhere that gave me a bit more privacy and independence.

Addis is same as always. Lots of mongering options, hot chicks, with mostly below average service by global standards. I visited plenty of the rub and shag joints, and the damage was consistently 700 (2230-250 massage, the rest for FS). Most ladies will quote 1300 - 2000, so be prepared to bargain, they expect it. For the sharky ones who insist on staying firm, be prepared to walk, they'll almost certainly relent.

I had a string of at least 5 mediocre sessions, and was beginning to wonder if my recent trips to South America had distorted my expectation that much. (I think S. America is the best combination of beauty, GFE, and value out there). Fortunately on my last try, I met a young one at Mack massage who made up for the rest. Very good IOP and fun overall.

Unfortunately, I am still unable to get a BJ in Ethiopia.

A word of advice: When you visit the massage joints, do not opt for the first lady who approaches you. That outgoing personality rarely translated into good performance in the room. Take your time and select based on taste. I have found the younger shy ones to provide much better service than the battle-hardened ones. So don't be afraid to pick the hottest thinking they will disappoint.

Was in Bahir Dar. Another nice vacation-worthy spot in Ethiopia, the source of Blue Nile. Has among the hottest per capita collection of beauties anywhere in the world; reminded me of Rio. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time or any intel to go on. I saw one rub and shag joint sign when riding from Airport and noted its location. Went back the following day, it is near Jacaranda Hotel, same side of the street in a small business center, you go upstairs. There were 2 ladies, both shaggable but not super hot. They told me the going rate is 400 for massage. This is the rate they typically charge for professional massage in 4-5 star Hotels in Addis. Based on this I didn't want to imagine what extras would cost, so politely declined and walked away. I did not locate any other shag joint, but I believe there should be plenty somewhere.

Anyone with intel for this location, please share.

Mongering is same as always, but has gotten pricey throughout Ethiopia. The Br 600 (2+4) standard damage in rub and shag joints has become 800. Some experiences:

As I mentioned last year, Hawassa has a very lively rub and shag scene, mostly within 0. 5 km radius of Lake View Hotel. The price-value ratio is poor relative to Addis, the selection is weaker and ladies are more sharky. An annoying thing in Hawassa is that you don't get to choose a lady. The receptionist (usually hot) sends you to the room and the lady who shows up is likely to be average if you are lucky. Because of this, you should always insist on seeing the actual lady you will meet before you walk into the room. Ignore this and the experience is likely to be less than satisfactory.

The first joint I went to, I did not practice my advice and the lady who showed up was almost not shag-worthy, but I had many days of jizz itching for an outlet, so I did it anyway. IOP was decent. Damage was 230 + 500.

Next day I went to another joint and insisted on seeing the lady before I agreed to go into the room. The lady came to meet me at the reception. She was average, but shapely and doable (you could tell she was hot about 40 lb ago). Session was average, damage again was 230 + 500 (I almost walked away before she agreed to take the 500!

A joint worth remembering by name was Classic or Klassic Massage. They have ladies sitting in reception area, Addis-style. This got me excited. There were 6 ladies, plus the ever hot receptionist and a dude. I tried to pick, but the dude said, "no you can't choose, it is not fair, you go room, we bring you". Problem is, 1 was hot, 1 average-hot, the rest absolutely atrocious. I thought to myself, what a fucked-up business strategy, said thank you and walked away.

The emergency rule is now suspended by the parlament. Anyway I was in Addis twice this year and did not notice any problems for tourists resulting from it.

Stop at Yoly, Atlas, Wudasie Castle or 3 Day International, you'll be on Mickey Leyland Street and there are plenty of safe small bars on that street alone.

Plenty of other reasonable hotels nearby or guest houses. Close to Bole Road for decent restaurants or more Western bars and clubs.

H2O was a let down for me but as always. YMMV.
