PO= oral
BID= twice a day

STD's
Chlamydia: azithromycin 1 gm single dose or doxycycline 100mg PO BID for 7 days
Syphillis: doxycycline 100mg PO BID for 14 days
Gonorrhea: cefixime (Suprax) 400mg PO (single dose)
PID: levofloxacin (Levaquin) 500 mg PO daily + metronidazole (Flagyl) 500 mg PO BID for 14 days

Infectious Diarrhea/Travelers Diarrhea
ciprofloxacin (Cipro) 500 mg PO BID 3-5 days

Dog/Cat bite (never know when you are in some 3rd world chit hole)
Amoxicillin clavulanate (Augmentin) 875 mg PO BID x10 days

Have been reading the forum, new member here, planning on taking a trip coming up for 5-10 days, (I am currently in the middle east) looking at Ethipoia, India, Thailand or going back to Romania. Good idea to take prophylactic anti-diarrhea drugs before you go, though some (NORFLOXACIN?) make you more light sensitive (a problem in if you are going to sunny areas). Also, get a script of Cipro just in case. I once got sick in Ukraine and thought I was goning to die. My hotel staff tried to give me rose petals or some such home-made remedy. I declined and my wingmate managed to get me Finnish medicines from a streetside vendor. Bizarre but effective. I never travel without a medicine chest of stuff to prolem solve if I get sick overseas.

Can some of you guys describe the proscess of yellow fever shots and other pills,do they have an effect on on you where do you get them?

I have taken yellow fever (shot) vaccine, with no adverse effects. Also took malarone for malaria. No adverse effects. Would love to do Ethopia, as I think these women may be the world's most beautiful.

You do not need to take malaria prophylaxis in Addis but you do if you go out of Addis to lower altitude towns like Awassa. I would consult the US Center for Disease Control website on Ethiopia for specific shots recommended but you definitely need yellow fever, typhoid is a good one as well.

Sorry, u r wrong,
doxicycline is recommended as a propylaxe for malaria, 100mg/day even for one or 2 months, so taking it for 15 days is just peanuts....
Also i don't feel the tablets disturbing my stomac at all, the doxcy. are very very salubrious for me...
