Neddy, that website has old info. You can even see the date stamp is 25th of July. Today is only the 12th of July, so that website hasn't been updated for almost a year.

I'm now in Luanda, and I visited several street exchanges (see my Initial Impressions post). I even showed that website to the ladies exchanging dollars on the street. All of them told me the black-market rate has fallen due to government crackdowns (as Taurus1 mentioned below). The street rate is now 490 kwanza to 1 USD.

Do you speak Portuguese? How much are the ladies asking for?

Tottem, yes I learned Portuguese while traveling in Brazil. Speaking the language helps a lot.

As for prices, there are lots of Luandan women on Tinder, so I have only used it thus far. Universities are on holiday for about 3 months. Lots of bored students at home looking for fun. I typically give 8,000 kwanza (~$16 USD) to help with transport and groceries. Have received no complaints so far.

Yes, I spoke to numerous ladies who exchange currency in the street, and their business has suffered greatly. Just last year, they offered almost double the official rate, but now the premium is only about 15%.

Observations after a couple of days:

• The typical lady I see is dark-skin, slim, medium height. Most also wear their natural hair, nails, eyelashes, and skin. Not so many hair weaves, wigs, heavy makeup, or skin bleaching. I personally prefer these natural women.

• English speakers are few, so Portuguese is very useful. I learned the language while in Brazil. And even thought the dialect is different, Angolans have no problem understanding. They watch a lot of Brazilian movies, television, and news, so they are accustomed to it.

• Tinder is all you need for online. Set your location to Luanda, and be prepared.

• If you prefer to hunt in person, then stroll to Avenida 4 de Fevereiro. It's located downtown and features a mall called Shopping Fortaleza as well as Marginal da Baia which is a seaside boardwalk full of people walking, jogging, eating, vending, and sitting on numerous public benches. For daytime pickup, this place is a goldmine.

• As of mid-July 2022, the parallel (black market) rate for exchanging US Dollars is 490 kwanza. This is about 15% better than the official bank rate of 423. Also interesting to note that women hold the cash and exchange your currency in the streets here. First time I've ever seen that.

• Luanda is more expensive than other African cities I've visited. Costs of food, transport, hotels, entertainment are noticeably high here. And even though it's possible to exchange dollars / euros on the street for a better rate (see above), this still doesn't offset the elevated prices.

• Ilha de Cabo, an island just off the coast of downtown Luanda, has about 5 kilometers of beautiful, pristine beaches. This morning I walked the island's beachfront avenue to explore hotel options, and I counted 10 city workers whose job it is to clean the beaches daily. Not something I often see on this continent.

I spent the first 3 months of this year in Rio de Janeiro, had a great time. If you like Afro-Brasileiras, then you will LOVE the Angolanas. I can confirm that the Luanda ladies you see on Tinder are all over this city.

They are fun, friendly, and with amazing bodies. I'm also happy to see many ladies wearing natural hair styles such as afros, twists, and braids.

As for the currency, I have only withdrawn from ATMs at this point. But I have heard that USD exchange on the black market for over 700 kwanza (versus only 430 kwanza at the bank rate). I'll ask around and let you know.

Atv least boots on the ground. Until recently Angola was still cut off because of Covid. Quite interesting Immigration said you can extend your visitor visa two times. The recent information I had only once for a month. That gives a total of 90 days stay.

Just arrived in Luanda.

Current entry requirements are as follows:

• At least 72 hours before arrival, apply online for your tourist visa. During the application process, you will need to upload images of your passport, COVID vaccination, proof of funds, and return airline ticket.

• Within a few days, you will receive an email with your visa pre-approval attached as a .pdf

• Print ALL documents from the previous 2 steps and carry them with you to Angola. Upon arrival, you will show all documents to the immigration official and pay $120 USD in cash. They will not accept any other currency. If you do not have U.S. dollars, then you must exchange your currency at the airport for dollars. There are ATMs for cash withdrawals (in local kwanza).

• You will receive a multiple-entry visa which is valid for 30 days. Immigration said the visa can be renewed two times for a total of 90 days.

I'm staying in the city center. Found a hotel with breakfast included on Expedia for 15,000 kwanza ($35) per night. I just arrived so haven't formed much of an opinion of the city, but I can say that Luanda ladies are VERY active on Tinder. I plan to stay for at least a week. More updates on the way.

You have to take what you get. In most African countries self catering apartments for short term rent are not popular. And if you find them? They can be expensive. What for? Its an Expat market. If you insist on cooking yourself. Your problem. Then you have to pay. What you expect for 20 days. If you stay for 3 months like me you can make different deals. As a tourist. Pay.
Or go to Thailand. And Angola has never been a monger/tourist destination. Now the cash strapped government is letting in tourists. Same as Nigeria. I hope both countries drop their dumb Visa regimes. In the good old days when it was a portuguese colony and it was cheap and easy to settle. But mostly for Portuguese and some Italians or French.

And in Bissau its even worse. Be happy when you find a clean room for 20 usd plus.

I must tell you that I have traveled many countries of the world in my life and always alone, from West Papua to Cameroon and Angola (but I know only Lubango), etc. Etc. Etc. So I know Thailand well and the prices there are too. But even though I've traveled a lot, I haven't had sex everywhere. I don't have much experience in this regard. So I figure in local terms things like restaurants the locals go to or prices for chicas will not go up that much.
