    Luanda

You cann't compare Luanda and Maputo. Everything, everyboy are diferent. But here you can also make eye contact. If you donn't speak a little of portuguese it's difficult. But try on the streets to make eye contact, or at the shpos (there are a few close to Tropico) try start conversation. You will be sucessfull. Send me your contact and I'll pass by Tropico.

If tou like black girls go to Mayombe or Kilamba discos. If you prefer soft colours go to Paulo's at the city center or to Miami at the "Ilha de Luanda" but take 100 US$ bills with you. Atention these place are no pro discos, but chicks like money as everibody. If you look for pro with very good looking, ask at the hotel they will advice aplave close to Paulo's (I don't know the name). Preare also 100.

    Good luck

You have to try to pick the girls during day time at their jobs, and invite them for dinner at your hotel. Maybe you get someone with car and things will be easy good luck.

    Dear Hotrod8181

My sympathies to you, I’ve had a similarly mixed experience in Luanda, quite a few bad… but also a couple of really good experiences.

I picked up two pros at the Tropico Hotel bar and they pinched my hidden cash when I was in the bathroom. I don’t really go mongering anymore because there’s always a problem. Zanzibar & Royal are the only bars I’ve been to that are pretty much set up for picking up pros. I’m sure there are more, I’m just not that adventurous given the high crime in Luanda. Since the nice, safe beach clubs are expensive, they usually have great girls there, but usually with a man to pay for drinks or the girls is already taken care of by family money.

The answer to the pro/non-pro question from Illini333 below is that it’s impossible to distinguish in Luanda. Most pros pretend to be non-pros. In town you see a lot of young women driving Rav4s, a gift from their married boyfriends. They have a term: ‘quatorzeinha’ which means a 14 year old girlfriend. So then what is a pro actually? But yes, they treat their men well (except for cheating on them). The best experiences I’ve had in Africa are with Angolan non-pros. They’re sexy, fun, great dancers, great in bed and can look you straight in the eye and lie to you. And since everyone here is lying and cheating, you can always dump a girl by saying that you know what she’s been up to!

Luanda is not a good destination for the mongerer, it’s just too complicated. Not many people speak English, everything shockingly expensive (even local beer), no taxis, the streets are unsafe at night and anyway, visas for Angola are almost impossible to get for visitors. I've tried to contribute a bit here since any visitor to the Luanda scene needs help.

I’m spending most of my time out of Luanda these days, and while I miss the 10% of the time when I had a great time, I also remember the 90% ‘confusao’.

    TravelRough,

I was able to find the 3 bars and clubs and visited Zanzibar & Royal a number of times.

On the whole my experiences with girls in Angola was not good. The cost of living in Luanda is ridicolous for Africa so when the girls were looking for $100 I was not prepared to give them that.

The first two girls I agreed on fees of $50 and $60 but after an hour at the hotel they packed up and wanted to leave. Despite their forthcomong attitudes in the clubs the sex was a big disappointment.

The third girl I took back to the company house. Sex was okay but when I went to the toilet she tried to do a runner with my valuables and threatened to call the police when I struggled to get them back. After that she was asked to leave.

All girls were treated well and sex involved BJ and straight sex so their attitudes were not justified in my view.

My other experience in West Africa have always been good. It was more like GF experiences for $20-25 and no hassle or stealing.

I might just have been unlucky because I know other expats that had good experience with girls from Royal and Zanzibar.

The Hotel Presidente is not girl friendly. Security and the receptionist will want a pay-off even though the girl hands over her passport / ID card on arrival. When I refused on the 2nd occassion they billed $50 for double occupancy without my knowledge. I don't think there would be the same problem if you had girls visiting through the day or early evening.

Nowadays you can get Aids everywhere. I think it`s dangerous in a country like the USA, where people should take protection and sometimes don´t than in Africa where everybody, except the crazy ones, take always protection. And about Maputo, you can be sure that it deerves the voyage. You won´t to leave the place. I live in Angola, and if I can I would change right now.

The source is: UNAIDS/WHO 2006 Report on the global AIDS epidemic

I'd be curious to know of sources that tell a contrary view. Maputo appears to be higher the the Mozambique average, which is not unlike other countries where the city prevalence rates are higher.

    HIV/AIDS Prevalence among 15- 49 year olds (2002)17.3% Maputo
    Source 2002 Unicef

The provinces with the highest rates are Sofala, Maputo and Maputo-city (26.5, 20.7 and 20.7% respectively) and the lowest Nampula, Cabo Delgado, Niassa and Inhambane (9.2, 8.6, 11.1 and 11.7% respectively). Tete, Zambezia, Gaza and Manica also presented very high rates (close to 20%)[1]. Source UN 2006- I don't have a more specific report to cite from this source.
The report I have read was in the German magazine "Spiegel online", there several reports and scientists were cited. But sorry I cannot find it anymore.

One thing I remeber very good is that previously not a single scientist group had really counted the people with infection but estimated with various methods. In 2007 several scientist groups started to count the infected people, which is much more work and they all found that the previously published numbers were in some cases 10 times higher than the real cases.

It was also said in the report, that the governments of these countries are not interested to publish the real rates, because they receive a lot of money to fights AIDS.

Also many scientists are not interested to tell the truth or lets say facts, because telling a story about a catastrophic event i.e. AIDS or Climate Change gives a lot of public attention and generates money.

    AIDS in Africa

Recently some scientist admitted that they overrated AIDS to get more money for their research programs. They admitted that the real AIDS infection numbers were 10 times smaller than they had published before. Official publications of the WHO also were "pimped" by scientist with the same purpose.

In 1988 it was said that in the year 2005 at least 30 million Africans will die from AIDS. Officially the WHO admitted that in 2007 some 3 Million Africans died form AIDS. The same scientists admitted that the chance of a man to get the infection by a woman who has the "virus inside" is 1%. When a man is circumcised the chance is even smaller.

From my point of view AIDS is a danger but it is not as dangerous as it was said. If one uses protection there is almost no danger at all.

Anyway. I have done a lot of time without protection with many african girls, I am circumcised and I always use sliding gel. Until today I am not infected, my last test was in Nov 2007.

    Cheers

Would you like to share with us your source of this information? Many ill informed people seem to have an opinion on HIV rates in Africa, all normally wildly wrong, so please enlighten us....
