Flying tomorrow for up to 2 months. Hoping to include a side-trip to Equatorial Guinea if visa and border crossing are possible. Will see what happens once I'm off the plane but Plan A is Yaounde. Douala - Limbe. Buea - Bamenda. Kribi. I'm assuming that apart from some French ex-pats in the cities it will be just me especially in the Anglophone areas and that's why I'm going, but if anyone is out there or has any info please pm me.

I will report as I go. Have got a couple of AfroIntro English speakers in Yaounde lined up to show me round the first couple of days but after that assuming the women will find me.

Pre-trip, I'd checked out dating sites/apps Tagged & Badoo. Even though I'm 50+, I got 100+ matches on Tagged. Arrived in Cameroon, I got plenty of matches on Tinder as well. As long as you're white, they'll love you!

As I stepped into Les Saints-Pères later that night, I was surprised to run into the object of my desire straight away. Gogo Dance is a strip club right next-door to night club Les Saints-Pères (the sign on the door simply says LSP). All strippers show their boobs at the end of their routine. Only a select few go the Full Monty. The freelancers are the main attraction, though, as well as the cheaper beer.

As in any P4P venue in Doula, the fillies gravitate to solo white guys like bees to honey. My 1st admirer was Natacha, who sounded like a broken record as she begged me for a beer. She didn't get the frosty brew she wanted that night, but was allowed to plunder my fridge when I invited her to my apartment the next afternoon. Hot bodies abound in Cameroon. Pretty faces are harder to come by. As has been noted, Cameroonian girls will seldom talk $$$ in advance. I gave my girls 20000 CFA (ST) & 30000 CFA (LT) "for the taxi".

Drinks Prices

In clubs Les Saints-Pres & Opium, a small Castel beer costs a ridiculous 4000 CFA. Cabarets (live music) were no cheaper (5000 CFA in Opium; 4000 XAF in Le Palais). Only strip club Gogo Dance had more reasonable prices, charging 2500 CFA for the same Castel beer. One girl asked me to buy her a Red Bull & vodka, costing an astronomical 9000 XAF. Hell, no!!!

Cameroon has by far the highest drinks prices of any of the 31 black African countries I've visited. Why are drinks prices so extravagant? I have no idea. Have venue owners ever heard of profit maximization? I doubt it. I sipped my beers, never having more than 1 drink per visit (except Gogo Dance), no matter how long I stayed. They sure would have made more money off me by offering half priced drinks. Anyway, for a party monger, the heinously expensive drinks are a major deterrent!

Language

Cameroon is mainly a francophone country, and Douala lies squarely within the francophone part of the country. Despite that, English speakers are very well represented on the Douala P4P scene. I met quite a few native English speakers, who may also speak French with an adorable accent. Plenty of francophone girls speak (some) English as well. Of the francophone black African countries, Cameroon is probably the most accessible for English speakers.

I've been planning a first-time 4-6 week trip to Cameroon mid-June onwards and intended to stay mostly in the Anglophone areas. I can get by in French but would rather have the option of a semi-decent conversation. I knew it would be rainy season and I've experienced that in East Africa but I've only just realised exactly how wet it gets in the Western provinces. Does this mean that my visions of lounging on Limbe beach and climbing Mt Cameroon are over? And would there be loads of mosquitoes as well?

I was once stuck in Limbe with nothing to do, only to find out that excursions to Mount Cameroon had been cancelled because of rain. It's difficult to have things organized in the Cameroons at the best of times, let alone when weather is bad. I never bothered much about the weather as I stayed mostly in town. Rain was never so torrential as to prevent making the trip to the next disco.
