Posts: 25How bad is Kenya Airways?
Looks like I made a rookie mistake of booking flights with Kenya airways from London to Mombasa and then back from Nairobi to London. I had cheaper options with better airlines but with long layovers so paid the extra for KQ but everyone keeps saying they will add in delays which will be worse than layovers and that their service is shocking.
Anyone have personal experience flying with them?

I go by a strict rules, I do not socialist with them, I do not date them, I do not pay their rent, I do not contribute to their Grans 7th death funeral fund, or school fees, malari treatment. I call them for a fuck and that happens once if they are not very good, twice if they are and three if exceptional, never ever keep them overnight. They know the exact amount they will receive for their time, end of deal.
Never had a problem living by that.

It is by far harder getting rid of them. I move around and keep moving.
No matter where in Africa, I meet them doing normal activities and during sunlight hours. Eventually it becomes overwhelming and I " flee. ".
Maybe another actual African traveler can get this fact across better. Many have tried.
There are so many fraud posters in the forum that it throws people off from that message.

I had arrived new years eve 2007 in the hotel near Mtwapa. Those days I still went with an all-in arrangement, so with flights, transfers to and from the airport and all-in food and drinks in the hotel.
Because of serious post-election unrest all over Kenya the situation was declared unsafe by most embassies and we had to return to Europe by force.
So after few days in Kenya we were forced to leave by the travel organization, otherwise one would lose all rights of accommodation, return flight etc.
Thus we went by bus to the airport, with a policeman armed with a machinegun in the front.
We took the route via Nyali as we were told the main road to Mombasa was too dangerous, as there were riots and blockades in Bombolulu etc.
Anyway we arrived safely at the airport and had a normal flight back.
I even had the money refunded for the days that I had not enjoyed the planned holidays.

Slowalk, I read you live in Western Kenya. What kind of mongering options have you got there?

I was in Kenya travelling in 2017 post election. I was in Mtwapa holing up with a nice girl watching Citizen TV. After I travelled to Kisumu when the high court annulled the elections. Pandemonium on the streets. I stayed indoors and had food delivered. Next day all over. Right now there's pre election violence mostly in slums in Nakuru also in CBD and in mount Kenya District. It's mostly voter indimidation. Violent crimes robberies rapes committed by youth gangs. But Mtwapa will most likely not be really affected. It'll be quiet as especially Kikuyu traders close shop and move upcountry. The population is totally mixed here. And the bad guys I. E. Gangs roam more Bamburi Shanzu I. E. Mombasa District.
Mwalimu.
Further footnote. I was in Gambia when they toppled Jammeh. And in Sansibar during elections in 2020. Ask me.

Posts: 321Stay Away - 09 August 2022 - Elections
During my first trip to an African country (Ghana), I was advised that whatever African country I may be in, to stay away during elections. Don't be lulled into the impression the election will always be peaceful. Hope for the best but plan for the worst. I will take the advice of those old veterans.
If you stay this year, the locals tell me to stay away from Nairobi but especially stay away from Kisumu and Eldoret.

In addition to the Health Ministry QR (https://ears.health.go.ke/airline_registration/), instead of a PCR test, you can prove you are fully vaccinated. You can't use your shot records. (for now).
To prove you are fully vaccinated, you must add your vaccinations then print out a QR from the GlobalHaven site (https://globalhaven.org/).
The site is not easy to navigate. Print the QR during that same session. If you can access your QR afterward in a later session to produce the QR, you're better than me.

Since I had to return to the US and my flight was 11:35 PM, I needed a negative PCR test the same day.
I used Nairobi West Hospital (open 24-7); I registered online the day before.
While registering online, I had to wait long periods (as much as 30 min) for the hospital website to respond to each online form.
People who are unable to register online can go to the hospital and register in person. The wait in line may be very long.
I went to the Hospital around 9 am Saturday and waited in line (5th in line) for about 45 min. They checked my registration then took KES 4,500 for results to be due in 5 hours.
They sent me to a second line where they gave me a test kit and directed me to a milking machine through the glass.
My results came to me via email in just 2 hours.
I was required to show the emailed results to enter the airport and to check onto the flight.
Once back in USA, no one asked for PCR results or proof of vaccination.
