Lots of arrivals have had their bags checked and had to pay tax already. Even a KQ captain!

It is "supposed" to be on new items worth more that $500. This is Kenya, meaning they will make it up as they go along. New / old what it is worth decides upon how much the customs officer wants to try and shake you down. Someone has took the new gazzette to court and it is supposed to be suspended. We shall see.

No. It's not a proposal. It just had never been enforced. It's law since 2004. Exempt are used personal items. If you think you finance your trip with used 4 iPhones or 5 used laptops they hit you with import duty. Same as new electronics in the box. I. e. For example new iPhone more than 500 $ customs value you find pay. As simple as that. They scan all luggage and whatever they find that mark it with white crosses. Hand luggage is also scanned. How I know that? I arrived a couple of days ago.

I'm going to have to play this carefully with their antics. I got a second laptop for work, but of course will lie and say it's my own. Don't know if this will work, but I'll find the same model for each on Ebay, print the pages showing sales price (Used, of course; and closer to $200-250), and claim that's the value of each. "This is Kenya" so such nonsense may actually work. Karibu Kenya!

I have gifts already wrapped. They're clothes from my sis to KE friends. No way even collectively they value 500 USD. I'll be honest with this one and describe that; if they want to see inside I'll slit one opening just to prove, then retape it later.

All else is easily individually under $100.

Increase entry fees to all wild animals areas, same for night tax when in these parcs.

Notwithstanding the fact that you can buy them IN Kenya. The customs will impound it. Also. Don't bring iPhones or similar as gifts. Everything with customs value over 500 $ will incur customs duty.

Kenia wants to increase different visa fees.

The normal Tourist Visa will cost 100 $, instead of 50 $.

What is so Special about them, that they want to charge Double of what others are charging?

I found a couple sthat list the Kenyan Immigration Locations. However, I know of two offices not on the list. Let's complete a list:

Nairobi - 9th Floor?

Kisumu.

Eldoret - 2nd floor. The most friendly.

Mombasa.

Nakuru.

Kisii.

Embu.

Garissa.

Not on the List:

Malindi. Ground floor.

Bungoma. Ground floor. I'm told this is where those to be deported are sent. The woman is an awful human being.

An update, it suddenly worked. I guess the only explanation that makes sense is "It's Africa" as you put it. Two days of 8 unsuccessful attempts, then I try a day later and all of a sudden it works fine. I didn't do a single thing differently.

This happens to me all the time. I often have to apply from eCitizens in middle of the night if I'm applying from Kenya. EFNS seems easier to access online when I apply for the extension.

It's either slow data connection or database fucked up. I had the same issue. It got stuck at the upload of the hotel reservation. It's Africa. Nothing you can do. Connection probably froze for a reason. I tried multiple times and it finally ate it. I was afraid I had to do it again. Don't do it on a smart phone. I only use regular laptop. I used latest WIN 10 H 22. EDGE Browser. Latest version. Payment went right through. But have to use 3 D Security. SEV was issued exactly 24 h later. Make sure you upload only JPEG and less than 267 KB?. Size. Another tip. I saved passport pics and Passport bio page in the cloud. So I didn't have to do it again. Reservation I used booking just a week. Which I'll cancel afterwards. NO need to upload an air ticket. It's not mandatory.

Had no issues when I did my evisa last August but some other travelers had this kind of issue so they were not able to do the visa, but when we arrive there was a separate line to croos customs / police for them and they paid at desk and were out far before us.

Anyone else having issues with eCitizen visa application online? I get to the part where I upload a photo and then I get a message that says "oops were having trouble connecting to the internet" and then I'm back at the photo submittal page and it will no longer allow me to upload or progress to the next part of the application. I resized the jpeg image multiple times to see if this would fix the issue, but I don't think that's the cause.
