gentlemen, this report describes the situation in lilongwe, malawi from june – november 2008. i was working there for 5. 5 months, and based on the time i spent in lilongwe, the following summary covers the information most likely to be of interest to like minded individuals such as your selves.

in general, malawi is an english speaking country, and there is a relaxed atmosphere to life in lilongwe. it's a relatively laid-back and friendly city, but there is not a lot to do and it can be very slow and even boring at times. lilongwe is the capital of malawi and is located in the central region of the country, and about 300km north of blantyre. there are two distinct parts to the city – the old town, which is the original part of the city and features busy african markets and many asian shops, hotels and restaurants. and the new town, which is less than 20 years old and hosts the main government buildings, diplomatic missions, international aid agencies, etc. there are several relatively new shopping precincts, hypermarkets, hotels and restaurants. the tourist attractions include the beaches of lake malawi and the northern wildlife reserves like nyika or kasungu national park, and the nkhotakota wildlife reserve.

malawi also has the distinction of having the only carlsberg brewery in africa, and during my stay there several brews were available including: green, brown, stout, classic, gold and elephant. other brands are also available but more expensive and include: heineken, castle, windhoek, and amstel.

during my time in malawi the exchange rate was 142. 00 malawi kwacha (mwk) to 1 usd.

based on my experience, malawi is a not a great place to monger and the options are limited. however, if you like dark skinned women, there are some lovely ones here. the prices quoted by all of the women i met typically started around 5, 000 mwk or about usd 36. 00, but then quickly fell when i either laughed or showed little interest. maybe others can do better, but i never paid more than 3, 000 mwk (21. 00 usd), and numerous times had bbbj/cim and/or sex in the backseat of my car for 1, 000 to 1, 500 mwk. the quality and the attitudes of some of the women were not always the best, but paying between 7. 00 and 10. 50 usd to get off was worth it to me.

malawi is expensive when it comes to hotels even though there are 3-4 there that might be considered decent in lilongwe. the best one is the sunbird capital hotel near the city center. my second choice is the cresta crossroads hotel in the crossroads complex at the mchinji roundabout in old town. a third option is the sunbird lilongwe hotel in old town. the best bets to find working girls are the 2 bars at the capital, and the bar at the lilongwe. i stayed at the cresta for 2 weeks and never saw any working girls in the bar there. these 3 are all girl friendly, and there is no extra charge if a girl spends the night with you. however, since breakfast is included in the price of the room, you have to pay for the girl if you invite her the next morning.

in addition there are numerous lodges and guest houses rep001tered around town and range from the kumbali country lodge (where madonna stays when she is in town trying to adopt another child) and wendels guest house in area 12, heuglin’s and the korea garden in area 10, and madidi lodge in area 9. the lodges and guest houses are all very upscale and comfortable, but you are staying in a room within a house and/or lodge with common areas, and i never found these settings very conducive to punting.

bars:

in lilongwe, the bar scene is limited and most of the activity is on friday and saturday. of course, the bars are open during the week, but except for the weekend, most nights are very quiet. please note that the following doesn’t include all the venues available, but only the ones that i felt were worth mentioning.

goodfellows (old town) – nice bar with typical african ambiance. the closest thing to a sports bar that i found, with 5 tvs (cable from south africa) that show mostly english premier league football. the sound is usually turned down and african music is playing. limited food menu (meatballs and chicken with chips), but lots of cold beer. usually a good selection of women on friday and saturday nights. prices for all night range between 2, 000 to 3, 500 mwk (14. 00 to 24. 50 usd) depending on the looks, age, etc.

diplomats (kamazu procession road. old town). nice bar with typical african ambiance. always has african or american hip-hop music playing. cold beer and grilled (braii) meat outside in front. there always seem to be women here every night, but the quality varies. it gets very crowded on friday and saturday nights. prices for all night range between 2, 000 to 3, 500 mwk (14. 00 to 24. 50 usd) depending on the looks, age, etc.

chameleon (president’s drive. area 12) – located in the four seasons complex. run by a scotsman and caters to a more expatriate (non african) crowd. drinks and food are available, but the music selection sucked. very nice ladies here but more upscale with attitudes, and i never managed to pull anything out. friday night is the most popular night and they usually have live music.

harry’s bar (old town) – small place, run by a british guy married to a malawian. limited food menu (braii outside) but lots of cold beer. more of an expatriate crowd, and popular since it’s next door to the ubunthu theater which shows some productions and often serves as a disco on friday nights. more hit and miss with the women, but i did hook-up with one of the waitresses several times (2, 000 mkw for all night).

there are a number of local african bars around town that always have women circulating around them. however, there are reportedly to be rough places, and for security reasons i wouldn’t advise going there unless you went with a local to show you around.

discos (there are only 2 in town):

starlight – open during the week, but friday and saturday nights are the times to go. typically a young crowd dancing to african or american hip-hop music. there are always lots of young, drunk women dancing inside, but the best bet for a hook-up is in the area outside around the pool tables. there are always girls standing around drinking and it’s easy to chat up someone. i never paid more that 2, 500 mwk (17. 50 usd) for a girl from here for an all night session.

chez ntemba – the most popular dance place in town. open during the week, but friday and saturday nights are the times to go and it’s open until the next morning. i left after 0800 am several saturday mornings. lots of women standing around drinking and dancing, and it’s easy to meet and hook-up here. the price varies based on looks and age, but i never paid more that 3, 000 mwk (21. 00 usd) for some beautiful girls from here for an all night session.

streetwalkers:

there are several places around town where i was able to pick-up women off the street for a bj or quick fuck in the back seat of my car. the "sure thing, can’t miss" for this type of action is around the bp station outside the entrance to chez ntemba (area 47, sector 4, bwandilo). i found that price was dependent on several factors including weather, time and day of the week. i always found women at this location, and if you drive up and stop, your car is swarmed by several women. several times i picked-up women here and took them to my house in area 12 for both st and lt sessions. i had to negotiate but for a bbbj/cim in my car i never paid more than 1, 000 mwk (7. 00 usd), and for a bbbj and sex in the back seat i never paid more than 1, 500 mwk (10. 50 usd).

outside the sunbird lilongwe hotel – it’s also hit and miss, but usually on friday and saturday nights, there are women out on the street in front of the sunbird lilongwe hotel on kamazu procession road in old town. i noticed them several times but never stopped or tried to hook-up with any of them.

massage:

full body massage with oil or lotion is available at the sunbird capital and cresta crossroads hotels. massage is also available at the chinese run (african masseuses) beauty salon adjacent to goodfellows, and at the place outside (chinese masseuses) the noble house chinese restaurant in old town. a hj happy ending is available in all of these places for 1, 000 mwk (7. 00 usd). there are other chinese run massage places around town that are springing up (bird massage in area 10). the massages were good but i never had any luck with negotiating a hj or other extras.

casinos:

there is only one in lilongwe and has some very attractive chinese (taiwan) working there. however, with the wide variety of beautiful african women available, i never tried to pick-up any women here. transportation:

the bad thing about lilongwe is the lack of reliable cab drivers and if you are not careful you can easily get stranded late at night. the town is very spread out so getting around can be a bit of a chore. you can pick up taxis from the lilongwe hotel (in the old town) and the capital hotel (in the city center).
