I am at a tight accommodation budget. I strive to spend no more than 10 $ at the most if I am forced to 15 $ a day. What I use Jumia for? If I am new at a place you got to start somewhere and for that I like Jumia. It gives me pics, prices. Good for negotiations sometimes prices quoted in Jumia are higher than what you pay at the spot. Its trial and error. I usually book 3 nights max. And see how I like it. Then I immediately scout the area on foot for a better deal price / quality as a lot of quite nice guest houses are not on any platform at all. Thats my tactic. For example first time in Kabalagala I booked in Chez Johnson. Totally crap place. Tiny noisy room. Than I found the perfect room just a couple of 100 meters away. Cheaper. King size. Quiet and cheaper. 20 $ would be already way over my budget. In exceptional circumstances like when I pass through Nairobi yes. But I spend 8 months on the road a year on average. If you have more budget that's a different matter. Another tip. Download maps.me . There's guest houses you'll not find on Google maps. So my main resources are maps. Me much better and offline maps. Google maps and Jumia which works well in most East african countries. Especially in out of way places like Isiolo. And lastly travel guides the best ones for Africa are the Bradt guides. Lonely planet for me crappy guides really. AirBNB might be good option as 2 BR to share with a wingman for a long term stay than it would be ok budget wise for me.

Dar es Salaam stay in Sinza. Around Club Ambiance there's loads of cheap guest houses for 10 usd. Zanzibar? Not much in terms of mongering. What I do I use an app called Jumia Travel much better than Booking especially for East Africa. Take your pick. No need to prebook. Just check the places in Jumia and show up at the front desk. Girlfriendly? Hey its Africa man. Everybody checks in and takes a bedwarmer This is not sexprison US or Europe. The only place I have ever been was in Maralal. Christian guest house. No twilight girls allowed. And forget AirBNB only if you want to pay inflated prices. AirBNB is geared to overpaying tourists.

I've stayed at the Strand Hotel that you recommended in Nairobi west. I've even stayed at the Hotel Lazinos right down the street which was cheaper although the Wi-fi didn't work. Another thing about Lazino's is that they had working girls there and more at the bar (but I wouldn't call it a WG bar they just happened to have available girls sometimes.

That being said I can't speak of the high season but in Kenya and TZ I've found that budget hotels will frustrate you, unless you're using it solely as a place to fuck girls I'd much rather an AirbnB (I never pay more than 20 bucks a night though) I had Jumia Travel on my phone but I deleted it. I never stayed in Sinza so I'm not sure what's there but I can say I rented mansions in Mikocheni for about 18 bucks a night. The only downside to an Airbnb that I have noticed is that I personally don't bring too many different girls into an Airbnb but that's just me being respectful of a house.

I personally never liked any of the hotels I stayed at in Dar. Got any recommendations?

And since I'm a coffee addict where's the best place for a cup of joe in Dar?

Thanks to all you guys contributing to this forum! It's thanks to you that I am in the middle of planning my first trip to Africa. I am not so much into hardcore hookers and I'll be going for 'regulars' and semi-pros. I'll probably find most of them online, meet them somewhere outside and then take them back to the hotel ASAP. I have noticed in this forum nobody has really talked about the fact that English is not the country's official language. A quick internet search shows most Tanzanians barely speak any English. Has this been a problem for you guys? Would Kenya be a better choice? I am actually more interested in Tanzania / Zanzibar as both Mombasa and Nairobi look like giant dump-holes to me while Zanzibar looks like a place I would visit even if it wasn't for pussy.

I can't speak for Zanzibar as I have never been there, but I what I would say if for a first trip to Africa I'd go to Kenya first. Firstly Kenya, Nairobi especially is a hub for east Africa and you'd save some coin by going there first. Secondly depending on how long your trip is and the purpose Kenya does speak better english and has more non mongering activities. In some way Dar is "better" for mongering than Kenya, because it's cheaper and it's easier to find a girl quickly; except when it comes to apps. TZ is a more conservative country and if you're not an experienced hardcore monger trying to date a "Nonpro" will get you a date without sex as happened to me when I was a newbie.

But there's not really a such thing as a nonpro, the chick knows your a mzungu on vacay so I would invite them to dinner at your place that way they'll know what you want. Dar is cheaper in all aspects though you can get a bonified slay queen for less than half price of a kenyan on the same 1-10 scale.

I'm here later in the year. I've gone back and made notes but not much info on hotels. I imagine airbnb is the best option but I want to stay flexible as I will be travelling Kenya and Uganda too and I'm not sure on what dates I will travel on to these yet. So the two questions are (which sort of extend to Kenya / Uganda also) is can I just turn up and find GF hotels / apartments with space in Nov / Dec and does anyone have any recommendations for those on a budget in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar?

I agree with you Bashaa, I always find myself stuck to book in Q Bar, although there some disadvantages regarding the room level, and some nearly-closed nights in the ground nightclub, but I couldn't find another hotel with active prostitution nightclub on ground floor, such combination makes my life easier to choose / negotiate / take.

Otherwise my advice do not stay there, just stay in Sinza, mwenge Kinondoni even Tabata out of city center but so much fun.

Yes, I was researching many African countries for a long trip and the name Q-Bar kept coming up on this trip as a must-stay-at destination. It seemed like a good central point with decent rooms (from the misleading pics) and there would be wild action downstairs each night. For those who used to monger in Asia. I was imagining an upscale Walkabout or upscale Grace Hotel (with the disco still downstairs). I imagined sitting in my large (but still inexpensive) king room. Looking down at the girls in the center courtyard disco and pulling them up one at a time! It would be heaven!.

Then double tree was perfect place for you. Even around there there a lot of good club where you can find good girls.
