While I was out with my girl one night we stopped for a bite to eat in Africana. It serves local dishes at some outdoor tables. But inside they have a DJ and a large dance floor. As the evening was getting on (after 10) it was starting to collect some good looking freelancers. There was something for everybody, big and tall or little spinners or in between. If I were alone that's where I would be hanging out. It's about 50 meters away from the beach, on the access path leading away from where Istanbul is.

Hotel recommendation for all: Tanzanite Serviced Apartments near Slow Leopard restaurant is girl-friendly. Has a Chinese Karaoke bar on the ground floor. Easy 10-15 Asian girls 20 to 30 yrs. Every weekend. *NO PE.

Bars like Samaki Samaki are the pick-up spots but so is any bar in DAR. Cape Town fish market is also a good place in that respect.

On the Paje / Bwejuu beach motorbikes were driving. Not too many but if every 10 minutes one drove by I found it still disturbing.

Yeah. I was just wondering if a trip to Zanzibar was worthwhile, if you have the time, the super fast ferry is in the region of $35 one way I believe, then getting to Nungwi is another expense, I guess one has to weigh up all the travel and the time it would take, add to this I believe you cannot take your own transport which is another doubt. Looks beautiful though. If all goes to plan I should be in the region in the coming months. Thanks.

Research suggests one should head to far north of Zanzibar Island, Nungwi? Paje is to the east on the windward side of the Island which is also an option. Zanzibar looks like somewhat a tourist trap. Nungwi looks cheaper and from my research there is amazing beach sunsets, (my kind of place with a few cold ones sitting with my feet in the lapping ocean).

The question is. How does Nungwi differ in relation to Zanzibar when it comes to the hobby as we call it?

Both of your options are well worth visiting.

Nungwi:

- lots of large hotels & resorts.

- beach is excellent and calm (better for swimming than Paje).

- few local bars with girls available, sometimes also larger gatherings (for example Kendwa full moon party, very upscale setting).

- apart from the beach the town is quite boring.

- Nungwi attracts older tourists and families, while Paje was originally built for backpackers and hippies (of course both have bit of everything, but you'll get the point once you see them).

Paje:

- lots of quality guesthouses run by Italians (imo better bang for the buck than Nungwi resorts).

- beach is excellent, long, and wide, but there are usually more waves than in Nungwi (great for watersports, and also good for swimming depending on tide).

- town and beach are more laid-back than Nungwi (hammocks, hippies, bonfires, etc.).

- restaurants are better in Paje (my opinion, of course).

- every night you'll find a crowded beach bar for nightlife, lots of available girls too.

- I found Paje cheaper than Nungwi for general costs (accommodation too if you walk and ask around).

Both towns are tourist traps in African standards, but Zanzibar is not Canary Islands if you worried about that. You could walk 300 meters into the local village and it's all shacks and dirt. I would spend 3-5 nights at both towns. Longer than that it can get boring.

When it comes to hobby? Both Nungwi and Paje are fine. The selection is not like in Mombasa, but you'll get laid every single night without problems.
