I have been to countless countries where there is malaria and never took any medicine. Malarone has a lot of side effects destroys your stomach and doesn't prevent you to get malaria anyway. Good luck. I was there last month. Kabalagala is the most boring place I've ever been. And I've been around a lot. Kabalagala may have been good in the past. But now it's dead (except for the Capital Pub). Better go to Kololo. And if it's your first time in Africa, you better go to Kenya.

My personal opinion is that in Kampala English is spoken better than in Kenya and Tanzania. In office, people spoke English to each other instead of Luganda. Swahili is not spoken so much because of historical reasons, from Idi Amin time, I forget what was reason for that.
Also bar girls talk good English, I guess people in this forum are interested of that, not what people speak in office

I'm in Kampala right now and have had the opposite experience. Most girls are very difficult to understand. Talking to a taxi driver is almost impossible. Even the lady at the front desk at my hotel is harder to understand than a Texan. I have been to Kenya many times. Communication is much easier there.

A lot of great information in this thread for someone planning a trip. How is the English in Kampala? Outside of Kampala in the countryside? When I approach random chicas for their phone numbers, will they be put off if I try English first? Do the local speak Swahili or Luganda to each other? Is it worth learning basic phrases in one or both of these languages?
