Staying at an Entebbe guesthouse-type lodging (of which there are numerous) the day before a very early Sunday morning departure, in the late afternoon a smell of smoke and loud music was wafting in. I went out and around to the property next door where there was a barbecue pit, food, bar, people and girls drinking beer. A party had started where I was welcomed to join and by nightfall, I had a friend for the night. Earlier in the day visiting the beach area, it was a family and kids kind of place. Entebbe is a pleasant, quiet residential area, with consulates and some restaurants scattered in. Wouldn't really be worthwhile to stay more than a night, unless maybe you had a car.

Entebbe has no action but what about daylight hook-ups? White Sand beach is one of the most popular "beaches" on Lake Victoria. It is very close to the airport. I was dissapointed at the lack of bathing suit eye candies. I wasn't expecting Ipanema style fio dental or even bikinis, but at least some revealingly covered flesh. No such thing. Peer pressure seems very strict in this respect.
As usual more men than women and most women with friends or family. But a few girls were ambling about on their own or in twos and my gazes were reciprocated. No lookers though, girls next door types.
Music is played at glass-shattering decibels and I was glad to leave.
Ueber will get you here but not back to Kampala. In fact Ueber's coverage does not extend beyond a 10 km radius from central Kampala. Ueber rides to the outskirts are expensive by Ueber standards because the taxi is expected to return empty.

Another downside of the apartments is they're not connected to Speke's emergency power generator. I had a 2-hour power cut on one day and another the next day that lasted 8 hours! The good-tempered Indian little chap who supervised the apartments kindly brought me a couple of candles at nightfall. I'm grateful to such incidents for making me aware of one of the downsides of living in Africa.

In your opinion is it better to book an apartment close to Rock Garden or close to Acacia mall for 10 days? What are the differences? Thank you!

Saturday night, Fame: this is a place like Wave. Hardly a single expat. M / F ratio around 7. Music not insufferable but not that great either. No girls on the game. Girls on average younger than say at Bubbles. Girls having fun with local friends.
Saturday night, Bubbles. This place was good on Thursday and even better on Friday so I was expecting it to be mind-boggling on Saturday. Not so. Too packed. If anything less girls than on Friday. Girls made up 1/12th of the crowd.
Sunday night, Cayenne. All tables in the disco section already taken at 9:30. Some lookers. Girls on the games recognizable by the fact that they huddle around a table with other girls instead of mixing with local men. Slightly more local men than at Bubbles. Didn't like the set-up. Bellows of noxious smoke from shishas. Treacherous steps on the floor. Like Bubbles, not really a fish tank (only venue approaching to a fish tank is Capital Pub). Unlike Bubbles, due to layout not possible to engage girls during forays to the toilet.

Speke is considered very strict with girls' IDs. But this is only the case if what you have booked is "a room". If you book an "apartment" you will not be asked to register your visitor, whether you bypass front desk (if you carry your key with you) or whether you collect your key at front desk on your way to your apartment.
Apartments are in a separate block at the opposite side of Rock Garden. To reach them, from the Speke main entrance you turn left and walk across Rock Garden into the big Car Park & Wash. You can also leave and enter from the Car Park gate in Coleville Street if you're prepared to carry your key with you. Unfortunately the keys have a cumbersome wooden slab attached.
Hotel staff are ok with visitors being smuggled in like this, in fact even if you pick up your key at the front desk with your girl in tow before proceeding to the apartment side you will not be asked anything.
"Standard apartment" is the first and cheapest Speke accomodation to pop up for booking on Agoda.

Hi guys,
Considering a trip to Uganda as always wanted to see it apart from the PTP fun.
Looking at blogs and travel clips I'd say Entebbe is more my speed than Kampala. But is there enough fun there to last a week or so?
Also, how long does it take by taxi to reach Kampala if I go there for a couple of days?
Many many thanks! M.
