Hello everyone,

I'm considering Uganda for my next trip, but I have never been to Africa before. Truth to be told I have been twice, but in a resort, and not I Uganda. I have a bunch of questions, and I would really appreciate if you could answer.

- Food.

Is it decent or it's terrible? I'm quite picky. There are two things I'm worried about: malaria and food. I would like to know if I can find good food at a decent price in restaurants, and which price I'm expecting to pay. I managed with Central American food quite well, but Africa, well, that's a different beast. Feedback needed, please.

Most of the advise / answers you seek and the questions you have raised have already been answer previously by other members, take your time and read through. I will try and answer the prices query from my perspective. I believe prices are subjective.

My friends and I recently came back from Kampala and t was a blast! Let me share a little.

So a week before I travelled to Kampala, I created a tinder profile and put my best 2 pictures and the quote "On holiday, Dinner, dance, drink and F**k" (I did this so those looking for a boyfriend will stay clear). - Prices.

I agree. I just returned from Uganda, and although I'm not into slim girls, that's what I got mostly to my disappointment. Skinny women aren't considered attractive by locals in many parts of Africa and thus there is an over supply of them. One of the girls told me she's constantly attacked by man because of her slim size. I would rate the girls I met 6-8 in terms of looks but again I like big girls and my rating might be biased. Update. FYI: Just received my eVisa. Applied Sunday, 29-May. Received 3 business days later on 1-Jun. The last-second plans caused me some inconvenience. But good stuff to know.

Just arrived two days ago, 30-May-2022. Happy to report that Visa-on-Arrival (VOA) is alive and kicking in Entebbe Airport (EBB).

I flew non-stop from Qatar on Qatar Airways and made a last-minute decision to fly to Entebbe. As a result of this I applied for the e-Visa the same day that I purchased my one-way ticket, on 29-May.

Qatar Airways (and there are others) is notorious for not letting you board your flight if you don't have the e-Visa in your phone or printed out. I had to be extremely assuring to the screening ladies that yes, I can get a visa on arrival in the airport at EBB. They finally agreed to have their floor manager make a phone call to Qatar Airways at EBB and he told them to allow me to board only if I had a receipt showing that I applied for and paid for the e-Visa. I had this information on screen shot, but they wanted to see it in real time, so I used my Passport number, birth date and application ID on the official Uganda website. I used "Check Status" and bam, it appeared that I had paid 100 USD and that my application was in "Pending" status. They said that there would be no problem obtaining my visa on arrival as long as I showed this receipt at EBB.

When I arrived at EBB, there was a long queue, but the lady was expecting me (as Qatar Airways had sent a pic of my passport). I made my way to the front of the line and got my East African Visa. This visa includes Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya. I plan on flying to all three in the next few weeks.

I knew about the visa on arrival from a friend who had been there recently. However, I could find nothing on the Uganda website that stated visa on arrival was possible. In fact, I found several sources (2016/2017) that said the contrary.

Just wanted you guys to be aware:

1. That VOA is possible at EBB.

2. When applying for your e-Visa you need to have proof of return. Since I only had a one-way ticket I ended up using FakeFightTickets website ($10 usd) to get a round trip proof of flight. You need this for the e-Visa application (as well as passport, itemized itinerary and proof of yellow-fever vaccination).

3. e-Visa application takes 10 business days to process (according to the lady who gave me my visa on arrival). Had I known I was going to EBB 10 business days ago, I would have applied.

4. Official Uganda website for Visa Application is https://visas.immigration.go.ug/.

That's not VOA. You applied for EVisa. The so called EAC Visa which is 100 $ for 3 months and valid for Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. You were just lucky that your pending Visa application was accepted for boarding.

That doesn't imply that VOA was reinstated, which is not the case. Technically you arrived with a pending EVisa which was approved there and then on the airport.

Dolphin Suites (Speke Group) in Bugolobi. Girl-friendly and hard to find something more affordable with aircon and swimmingpool. Swimmingpool is deep. So not much used by locals. And basically no families with kids on the weekends hanging around there.

I have entered Uganda many times and I was always asked to show YF vaccination proof. Bribing will be difficult because it's a very public situation at the health-check.
