Posts: 197I take Malaria seriously but less than one percent of the Ugandan cases happened in Kampala. I would not take prophylactic pills. Just sleep under a net. And in case of fever symptoms rush to a pharmacy for a test.

I was 2018 in Kampala and not very convinced. But maybe next January I give it another try.
Good information Incrociatore. Also not to sleep with pregnant girls and to use a condom is a good advice. Only you put it together and as a result sounded a bit funny to me.

For malaria, go to a local pharmacy (chemist). You will get the medication that works best on the type of malaria there, you won't need a prescription and its cheap.

I'm not sure I mentioned the mosquitos chapter.
During this time mosquitos aren't so common. If you stay in Kampala and you wear jeans and socks, you would not need a mosquito repellent. I still recommend a malaria profilaxy. I took Malarone. I didn't have any side effects. It must be taken the day before you travel, then one pill a day for the entire journey, and for one week after you are back home. The alternative is Doxycycline, but it has to be taken for one month when you return home. Also it's an antibiotic, so you'll have to take probiotics as well, and your skin will become very sensitive to the sun. Malarone is more expensive but it works better, even if is heavier on the liver.
Always rent an apartment with a mosquito net around the bed. Buy a mosquito spray and use it a few hours before you go to sleep, then lock the room. One night there was a mosquito inside the net, and we were able to kill it before it sucked our blood.

Posts: 181You can't get a drone in the country
If you are planning to take pictures, keep in mind locals don't like to be photographed. Also, bare in mind, you cannot get a drone in the country, it's forbidden. You'll have to put in a deposit, and then get it back when you leave. I have been told this by a Spanish fella I met in the airport on my way back.

Posts: 181You'll need your passport to get a SIM card
I forgot to mention, I believe, that you will need your passport to get a SIM card. Once you have it, keep your passport at home. I suggest you to get an Airtel SIM card. There is a 24 GB package which cost around $10 and last a month if I'm not mistaken. If you have WIFI at home, probably 12 GB will be more than enough for 3 weeks. I think I used 4 GB in total.

Also, never send any money for the transport. They use AirTel and MTN money networks. You can send and receive money on your local number for a small fee. Many girls ask to send money for the transport. I never did, but most likely if you do they will not show up. I have been told by a girl that a friend of her sent 100 k to a girl for transport, and she didn't show up. A local guy. So don't send any money. If a girl insists, most likely she is a scammer. If a girl doesn't have any money (which might happen), tell her you'll pay for her boda boda, or call an Uber (boda boda) for her. In Uganda you can select boda boda as transport vehicle in the Uber app. And you can also specify the transport is not for you, providing the phone number of the girl. You will always pay cash.
