In Indonesia the religion is mentioned on people's national ID card. The vice squad (called "religion police") enforces the laws accordingly. For instance muslims will get fined if they infringe Ramadan rules, Christians will not. On the other hand muslims may practice polygamy, christians mayn't, etc.

Religion is a big stupid thing that is able to get along by accommodating an infinity of discrepancies and contradictions. In fact religion is more than anything else a frame of mind, one by which rationality is put on a back burner for as long as it takes.

I am just guessing, that this is a religious thing. If you are black, they think that you are local, and so probably muslim. If muslim, they expect you to follow muslim rules. Christians and other religions, more things are allowed. It was like that in Egypt, they did not want to sell alcohol in some cases to muslims, like for example in muslim holidays. For non-muslims no problems.

But those married couples who complained that it was too conservative in Zanzibar, they were Russians, so as white as you can get.

Except they expected to meet a future husband, never mind if the potential future husband said he was only in Uganda for two weeks. I don't buy that women who are hard-up for sex in Africa would rely on tourists to get any. Plenty of young local studs willing to oblige next door. 1) I am not old fat muzhungu. I am 42, fit, good-looking guy. Office girls often flirt with me. Also in Africa, I have been with Lawyers, Teachers, Banking, accountants, etc girls.
