Hi,

I'm planning a visit to Kampala soon, but I heard stories about girls trying to blackmail you after sex (threatening to call the police / friend if you don't give them extra money etc).

Or the police wanting bribe because someone "snitch" on you.

Are there any truth behind those stories and how safe is it regarding robbery / bribe / blackmail?

I have met a few who were that way inclined threatening you for more money or police if you don't do as they say. That is a reason not to take them back to where you stay as if it's a hotel they'll create a scene and as for the cops they're as corrupt as you'll get. It's a case of who you know not what you know and they'll always be on the side of the Ugandan, unless you can speak and understand Swahili. Watch out for drink spiking and then them doing the dirty, don't leave your drink unattended take it with you where you go and either finish it or abandon it if you've been away dancing or chatting them up. Be wary of Four Turkeys in Entebbe for spiking and just in general be careful.

Visa withdrawals at Standard Chartered have a 1% ATM fee (provided you withdraw the maximum amount i.e. 2 million).

During my last trip MasterCard at Barclays worked (June18). Anyway I had some prepaid visa electron card released by postal public company of my country. I tried these cards and they did not work. Then I discovered on internet a note of the Postal company that banned Uganda and some other country around the world (reason was "replying of money" So my visa electron did not work anymore in this country.

So, don't me with only 1/2 cards to Uganda and moreover bring cash with you.

Mastercard is accepted at atms at uganda. I use my mastercard at 2-3 diffrent ones and pull out money without charges it was last December. I use ATM at entebee airport, acacia mall at kampala, entebee city. As I remember barclays ATM add some extra charges to pull money out so better avoid this ATM. Best to use stanbic bank ATM it was allowed to take me 800000 shillings per one go without charge.

Mastercard pulled out of Africa completely a couple of years back because of widespread scams. Now they try to come back. An International Visa Credit Card works any place any time. Mastercard and Bankcards might work or might not. Never had a problem pulling cash with Visa anywhere unless datalines were down, the ATM was empty or there was no power.

Get a Visa. Period.

Mastercard during my travels in Uganda was accepted by Barclays. Others banks had problems bu maybe the situation should have been improved.

Anyway I strongly suggest to have at least 1 visa card to be added to others that are MasterCard.

I would strongly suggest that you go back further than one year. Most of the strongest contributors here left the site or stopped posting at least 4-5 years back and beyond.

I'd like to tell you about the latest my experience in Kampala. You don't have to look for pro girls in Kampala but regular girls are the best option.
