    My Kampala trip

Thank you guys for your inputs on Kampala prior to my trip. Stayed in JBK hotel. Average budget hotel with cooperative staff. But quite far for mongering. Checked out Rock Gargen Cafe and ITBO night club for pick up.

    Happy mongering!

    Hey

    Hello,

Have you guys tried kabalagala? Lots of hidden hotels and girls. Come quench thirst.

Really appreciate all the wonderful work you people have put into this thread. I've been researching it for a few weeks now and really learned a lot. I'll be leaving to Kampala sometime next month and will be staying for a month probably (holiday). First time in africa really. Initially I've settled on taking an apartment in "Prestige Apartments" since the monthly rate is ok for me. Question is, anybody ever tried it before? How friendly is it really? Could I hold a small party over there and have the girls (3 or 4) leave before 10pm or will they charge me for more people in the room? If anyone knows, please let me know.

    Thanks again everyone.

This is just an update. I contacted them by email. According to them, the rates on the site are old and now only apply for single occupancy. $200 dollars extra per month covers double occupancy with A / C. I also asked if I could leave the registration in my name only (not register the guest) , they said it's fine no problem with that. Hope that helps if anyone needs the info.

Guess I'll take a gamble and try them out. I like the location as I see on the map, not too far not too close.

I'll give an update once I get there next month.

    Cheers

What Jiggydus said about the noise level in the Taxi Park area is real and no joke. To mitigate this at the JBK you have two options. One, you can request a room inside the hotel (against a solid wall) with no windows and no A / C which is the most quiet option. Or, at no additional cost, you can request a room with A / C facing the street. Of course, these rooms have windows, but they are sealed and this reduces the noise considerably. I prefer a view and A / C so this is what I choose, but some of the regulars there prefer to be inside. To each his own.

If for whatever reason you don't like the JBK, simply shift to another hotel. All of the others mentioned here (including the Aponeye) are less than a 5 min walk from each other.

The only exception to this (above Kampala road and on the good side of the tracks) would be the New City Annex Hotel which has already been discussed on this forum. Research this option if you wish.

On Kampala road itself (the so-called line of demarcation) , there are some other hotels at or below the $50 range such as the Excellent and City Square hotels. The former has a website I believe.

Even though it's a rip-off at $140, what I typically recommend to guys like you is to book a few nights at the Speke Hotel and then look around at some of these other options in person. Taxi park is not for everyone.
I would recommend anyone choosing to stay on the lower Kampala St side to bring along plenty of ear plugs. Even being up on the 5th floor of the Aponeye Hotel, I could hear the sounds on the street just as though I were on the first floor with my windows open (there is just mesh opening at the top of the glass door leading out to balcony on street side Aponeye Hotel rooms). But when I re-visit Kampala, I will have no problem staying on the lower side of the tracks. I like the food venues and the rooms are tolerable. Actually, I will try out staying in Kabalagala next go around as has been suggested of late here.

If these are not "budget" enough for you, try the string of hotels on Williams st (behind the old Equatorial Hotel on Kampala road) at $10-20 per night. Yes, you can still walk to Rock Gardens from there, but it's a fair distance and again, not advisable after 10pm.

Honestly speaking, your desire to hunt pros at one of the most pricey venues in Kampala, while at the same time penny pinching on the hotel makes one wonder about what kind of "pure business" you're actually doing in Kampala? Assuming you're on an expense acct, why not just be done with it and book a room at the Speke hotel?

If you're not on an expense acct, and are really trying to do this economically, then stay in Kabalagala which is only about a 5-10min boda (motorcycle) ride from the city. Stay at the Kenrock Hotel at less than $20 per night, or upgrade to the SEB hotel at about $45 per night and simply walk down to the hooker bars from there.

In the city center, you'll be pretty much limited to Rock Gardens (on foot) and everywhere else you'll need a boda to get to. Whereas in kabalagala, everything is readily accessable to you on foot, on one street, within 100 yards of each other. For a visual click on:

    Trip to Kampala. Finally.

    Hi all.

Been waiting for this one to come thru'. I will be in kampala for 5-6 days next week onwards and plan to stay around Nile Ave'.

Its my first time there. And hope its often hereon. .

My hotel options are Speke / Sheraton Kampala / Golf Course Hotel

Need to know if all the above are girl friendly and / or which one's better. Whats the logistics of getting a girl to the room.

Like hotels in Asia, do they need to register the girl's I'd at reception before taking to the room? And is there an extra charge for that.

    Appreciate all help.

Happy if someone wants to catch up for a beer and share notes & experience.

Please PM me if you can suggest someone specific. As its a short trip.

Again. Thanks much for all help on this.

    Cheers!

    JBK Hotel

    Thanks
In that immediate area, just down the street from the Holiday Express (which I don't recommend) and across from Barclays bank is the JBK hotel in the JBK plaza.

If you wanna be around a higher concentration of pick up bars for mzungus and all within walking distance of your hotel, you might consider staying in Kabalagala instead of the city center. There I recommend the SEB Hotel next to the Ethiopian Village. From there, you can walk down to De-posh, the infamous 'capital pub', Mi Chuchi (sp?), etc...
