Guide told me that he got us this because he had promised me langoustines on the trip. In fact it was only mentioned in passing while we talked about the destination the other day. He was very helpful and attentive the whole day and when we returned he neither asked for nor got any extra money.

When I asked for a good Christmas party he did not try to sell me on any of the numerous parties that are advertised for 50-200 k per person. Instead he suggested that I would pay for supermarket beer and produce that he and the hotel doorman would cook on the hotel balcony..

All-in-all I no longer have the impression that the guide is some kind of street hustler (I might still be proven wrong). When I go around anywhere with a guide who "knows everybody" and claims that he can arrange all sorts of things I do pay attention to which people seem to know him and how they behave. This guy always gets friendly smiles from a lot of people we pass by, including some definite French expats. He also warned me not to keep Vanessa's friend around as she shouldn't be trusted.

Vanessa asked for money the morning after our first night together. I asked her how much and she said "up to you". I gave her 40 k, she smiled and gave me a long wet kiss. Second day I left 40 k next to her phone, which she didn't touch until I told her it was for her. As I wrote in my first report I told the guard that I had trouble because I didn't have any cash on me. He offered to find me a taxi driver who.

Would front me the money and then take me to ATM and hotel. I offered him the only actual money I had on me, a Swedish 200 note, after he had helped past the first long line of people waiting to pay for the test. I hardly call his services nothing and me giving him the money might be considered a bribe, but it happened after he had already helped me. I might get robbed, but the guide knows I go to the ATM each day which means he should know I don't carry a lot of cash. If my phone and computer gets stolen it would be a bummer for sure, but not really a big deal. I have also never strayed from the main bar and beach area, and I make sure I don't go away from the main street after dark.

My guide is on the greedy side, I think, but that is not unexpected. The first day he asked for 60 k for showing me around and procuring the two girls. That was fine with me. On the afternoon of my second day I was sitting on the balcony when he spotted me from the street below. Perhaps I shouldn't have given him anything, but we were standing on the street with people who clearly know him within hearing distance and I think it was important to let him save face with them. When I ran into him in the evening everything was fine. And today I asked him to look for a nice Christmas party.

For me its clear. I never ever use a guide. What for? If you RTFF all it takes take a stroll through Ambatoloaka any time of day to find chicas.
