I a country with no support by the government for the tourist industries it will by wiped out after two years one would assume. Looks like no protest so far.

No tourists, no work, no income, no tax to bee collected for the politicians for them self. To me a mystery.

Protests are linked to the lack of payment of bursaries and scholarships.

Andry was an extremely popular president when he was elected. Now its a different story. His downfall can come swift. If the cotieres withdraw their support. No protests? Don't kid yourself. Everybody steals from the government coffers. The biggest grafters are high in the government.

They siphon off foreign aid. For many African governments the perfect opportunity to whine to IMF and China to get debt relief by damaging their economy through useless lockdowns.

When they built the RN9 up to Mangily they had to guard the bridges at night as people were stealing the iron rebars out of the wet concrete.

You are right. The tourism industry IS wiped out. Zero support. even back in 2015 I could lease a whole beachfront resort for 600$ a month in Mangily. No customers back then

If you follow the gassy news in this links, it can easy scare one anyway. Tourist will be targets of all sort of people. Not just the girls will bee after you.

Mid January. Hell yeah. If tou want to experience a tropical cyclone with wind speeds of 200 kmh plus. Go ahead. The malagasy IMHO are much more afraid of foreign germs than their own. They have it all. Pestilence and Cholera. Malaria and Typhoid. But they're scared shitless of Covid. Hunger and malnutrition is killing far more people then Covid ever will. IMHO the opening in October is just a pipe dream. They think they can out-sit it and wipe out the remains of the tourist industry. Plan for 2022. For me Madagascar is a write off this year.

I don't think I will be booking a flight just yet. I suspect they will not have things ready for October (5 weeks away?) if it is going to be done properly. Then there will be PCR tests, possible quarantines, and initially at least, only 2 test destinations. I do not care for Nosy Be and St. Marie will get old very fast. If you have been there you will know what I mean. That said if it takes off with few / no restrictions I will be happy to jump on board. Guess we will just have to keep waiting and see how it unfolds.
