I'm still undecided if my next trip is going to be Kenya or Madagascar. I was tilting towards Kenya but I'm unsure now as I read more than one report that 'it isn't anymore what it used to be'.
To whoever it may concern: some incredible return flight deals to Madagascar. About 440 Euro return with Air France from all major cities in Italy (Milan, Rome, Venice, Florence, Turin, Bologna) between September 2019 and February 2020.

Listen to Expert advise and go here https://goo.gl/maps/eD4JURqv1fHqmx1cA 30 k per night hotel Sud plaza. I bought electrical cattle for hot water. This is killer location I was there a month.
At Mangily go here https://goo.gl/maps/KX1tcGzag6CLTiMT6 LE relais de Mangily. 30 k per night. Forget the price he said and instead go to family apartment and explain him that its low season now and no customers.
Toliar TukTuk are 500 only within the city.

For Tulear and Mangily you can at least find my reports but was in July & August 2018, and there are many others better than mines.
For hotels in Tulear I was in Serena for 75 k but there is also LE Recife cheaper.
In Mangily, my hotel was not the cheapest one, was about 40 Euros / day but all included night and very, very good food cooked by an excellent cook, and the best room is in the second bungalow on the beach, most private and quiet, masseuses on the beach just in front, for me was a paradise.
Have a nice stay!

A couple of years back I stayed at Hotel Saifee in Tulear. It was 70 k and perfectly fine. Decent size room, pretty good WiFi which is likely better now. Good bed, good bathroom and AC. Very close to la Terrasse restaurant and 5 minute walk to the action (just walk downhill towards the water). Almost all the action seems to be in a few block stretch. I don't think you can miss it unless you go in the day and it may seem quiet. At night plenty of girls normally strolling around and in a few bars and discos. Look back at some of the more recent posts. Some guys are having good luck just wandering around and asking a girl for a number.

In Tulear, I stayed at Serena hotel. I had booked with booking dot com, so I paid more but if you book directly with the hotel, the double rooms on second floor are at MGA 95,000. A little rooms on first floor are MGA 75,000. There are other hotels in the vicinity which are cheaper. You will have to enquirer with them.
In Mangily, I stayed at Hotel La Bella Donna. I had a beach front bungalow. I paid MGA 90,000 per night. Of course, there are cheaper rooms at other nearby hotels.

Thanks for the review, very solid info. It confirms what Neddy said a few months ago. It looks like I will have to shorten my stay in Diego and give it another try. I don't think Mahajunga will be quite up to that standard but you seem to enjoy yourself wherever you go. Keep it up!

Wow.
Very nice, very informative and very positive review Sir. Your description does a lot to back up the good things that have been posted by Neddy and others.
I spent last January and February in Mtwapa, and while I found the town and the area to be very much to my liking, the heat was difficult for me. I will do some research online about the weather in Nosy be, but I wonder if you could comment on it in general for me please?
I am considering a return to Kampala, Mombasa and Mtwapa in July and August as I was told by folks in the know that the weather is a little less intense from June through September. I am guessing it would be similar in Madagascar?
I am also interested in visiting Zanzibar, so it may be that a big loop through Kampala, Mtwapa, Dar / Zanzibar and on to Madagascar may be the thing to do.
Thanks again for taking the time to post a very useful, positive and informative report. Such reporting as yours and others who share solid, actionable information are what keeps this board a viable resource.
Thanks again,
Cheers and good travels.
