I have been to Mada 4 times and if there is an expat place where they speak English I have yet to find one! The only place there may be some that I know of is Tamatave as some big Canadian company is mining nickel there. Even then did not see it but then again wasn't looking that hard. In Nosy Be you will probably have the best chance of finding someone who speaks English simply because there are a lot of different foreigners there. Good luck.

I lived in Angeles City and Baretto for 6 years and, before I head back there, I want to visit Nosy.

A couple questions that I have, if you don't mind?

Is there an English speaking hangout for expats?

I will do some boots on the ground searching for a place to stay, but I am open to referrals.

The only English speaking hangout I ever came across is Sharkis Bar in Tamatave. There's South Africans, Canadians and even a Jamaican hanging out working for the mines in Moramanga. Other than that prepare to learn decent French otherwise no Frenchman will talk to you.

If I would get the choice to visit only one area / city in Madagascar I would always go for Nosy Be. Although I have to admit I haven't been to Tamatave yet. Absolutely have to do that next time.

Can't remember there being a premium. Vazaha rate was 40 k LT in 2019.

I'm quite familiar with the "remote" parts of Mada. The question stands, how much of a premium is there in the least remote part of the country, tourism-wise: Nosy Be.

If you talk to the pro's in NB in english, you pay 100. -EU.

If you communicate in french, they will ask for 100.000 MGA.

If you know Malgache and tell her: ho avy lele, tsara. You get away with 10.000 MGA.

Cheap, but most hotels are cheap in Toliara. The swimming pool is ok. The gym. Well. I wouldn't call that garden shed a gym LOL. Even Arnold Schwarzenegger who used to train in pretty raw places in the 60's and 70's wouldn't.

Hotel Recife has only one good room with brand new Aircon and firm Mattress. The entrance to the hotel Gym is 5 K per day or 50 K per month. The hotel is also used as a girls meeting place. Knocking on your door is common. Sweeming pool is very nice but I did not took the "risk" as the water look to me not so clear.

I booked a Room at LE Recife for my trip in October.

Does anyone has Experience with the "normal" Rooms in Recife? Is there warm water with good Pressure? How is the Wifi there? I don't need anything special, but sometimes connecting my notebook for some mails and bookings.
