Like myself. 1000 usd is plenty plenty. But I am travelling. If you stay put in Mada you get easy by with 400 to 600 usd a month. Here in Morondave you can rent furnished 2 BR Apartments for 150 usd a month. In a month I hv 4 19 year old GFs taking care of me. All the booze I can drink and fresh crabs lobster or whatever I care to fancy. I can eat Cebu steak everyday if I cook myself. All fresh produce is available. Even fresh strawberries ferried in from Antsirabe. I Know expats here they live on 400 usd a month very comfortable.
I stay in cheap lodgings but never seen a flea or rat or caught scabies. There is good cheap lodgings all over Africa for 7 to 15 usd a day. I shop around till I find a place. Obviously I give overpriced tourist haunts a wide birth. The most I ever paid was 3000 ksh a night in Nairobi the least 100 usd thats 3.30 usd a day a month in Mangily. Clean bungalow without running water and off grid.
When I talk about 200 usd a month. The guy I know lives in Mangily. He is not traveling but retired in his 70's. He spent most of his best years in jail for political reasons in the former eastern bloc and receives a minimum pension of 200 usd. Perfectly doable. He rents a small hut for 40 $. The rest is for food and beer. His girlfriend cooks the usual gasy fare Rice. The fisherman sell him the catch of the day. And he owns a Motobike. Considering the minimum wage was raised to 200 k AR by the president he is a rich man getting 800 k a month. While he lives basic consider he's living in paradise looking at the sunset over the Mozambique channel every day. And he's not to worried about things like healthcare. Actually visit to government doctor is free. I did it myself. Only pay a few bucks for medication.

    La Buse.

Look at the video. Thats a typical village in the highlands. Dadi love besings the beauty of the malagasy woman. And beautiful they are....

I will be arriving for the first time in Madagascar towards the second half of this month. I'm planning to stay a couple of days in Tana to get a feel of the city and then move on. My main issue right now is planning what direction I want to go. It's a big country and unless you have an unlimited budget to take domestic flights as you please, logistically it is a nightmare. Very often the only logical way to continue travelling is doing just the opposite, to go back as there are no alternatives to carry on.

I have 6 weeks in total and I want to combine hobbying with tourist activities. Originally my plan was to go to Nosy Be but I don't fancy going all the way to Nosy and then return to Tana to continue further on. So I think I'll be heading to Tamatave. I love travelling by train. From Moramanga there is a line going to Ambatondrazaka and another one going to Tamatave. I read that since a couple of months the train is out of use for an undetermined period of time. Does anyone have any updated information about that? From Tamatave I want to continue following the coast southward all the way up to Manakara and there take the train to Fianantsaroa. I will be taking a girl with me as I believe the mongering scene between Tamatave and Manakara will be limited.

The tricky part between Tamatave and Manakara is the stretch between Mahanoro and Nosy Varika. If you look on the map you will see there is a road the 'route nationale 11'. The problem is that I haven't been able to find one person who actually has driven it, no car, no 4 x 4, no taxi brousse not even a lorry. It seems that everyone takes cargo 'boats' over the Pangalanes canal and it takes 2-4 days. No bed, no sex maybe not even a seat or a toilet for all I know.
The only train worth taking is the scenic Fianarantsoa. Manakara. Don't ever go to ambatondrazaka, it is a real shithole.

From Tamatave to Mahanoro, you can travel by taxi-brousse or rent a car. Mahanoro, there is a nice beach and bungalows by the beach: Coco Bungalows.

From there, there is indeed a harbor and boats can take you to Mananjary in 2 to 3 days. Relaxing but rough: Bring your own water on the boat (6-pack of Eau vive), be careful of food and mosquito bites.

Then, from Manajary (a city with no interest) to Manakary (no interest either), you will have a one-day traxi-brousse. Then one-day train to Fianarantsoa (some amazing girls but hard to find).

It's a good idea to bring a girl with you. She will arrange transportation, accommodation, and translation. In Pandora or Taxi Be (if re-opened), look from a girl from Mahanoro or Vatomandry.

Vatomandry has a reputation of malagasy-chinese metis girls. Mahanoro of malagasy-arabic metis girls.

Also the rainy season is coming soon. I would recommend you wait till April to do this trip.

On this budget, take time to comprehend the fact of staying in a dingy fleabag, leaving only to venture forth a couple times a day to forage for street food, then awaiting for nightfall to sortie a poor girl who finds your accommodations preferable to the ever-present risk of rape back at her shack. Unless you are dead broke or else thrive on wandering around like a stray dog with nothing to do, Mada is not in any way a retirement destination. Go for two weeks, then if you're not bored out of your mind, go back for longer and see more on a subsequent visit.

That's impressive. It shows that it is really possible to have a monger lifestyle on such a little money. It's not that it changes anything for me but if I do the math right then your expenses a year is $15,000 and not $10,000.

$1000 x 12+$2000=$15,000 It's just crazy inexpensive in Africa compare to what you get in the Philippines / Thailand. In my humble opinion $1000 a month in the Philippines is not enough for quality mongering.

As you mentioned before the average price for girls in Sub-Saharan Africa should be in the range of $10-$20 In the Philippines it starts from $40. Thailand is even more.

    Connections

    Donkey,

You must have missed the posts about Tsaradia. You can fly from Diego to Nosy Be. Unfortunately they only go twice a week or so it appears. It sounds like money is no object so have a look. Hell you could book a 4 x 4 private for a hundred euro and go overland. Not very nice due to the roads but it would take no longer and probably be less hassle. And don't count out Diego if you are nearby. Most guys that post on here do not like it, but I am an exception. Unless you are very fussy and in a hurry there is no way you will not find pussy in Diego. Unless you are like the expert in his endless quest for free pussy. It is definitely more of a pro town but you will definitely get laid.

    TuléAR

Quit a long journey to Tulear, more than 30 hours from Europe. I had a 6 hour layover in Reunion, so I asked a taxi driver to show me around the island as a past time. The Air Madagascar flight had also a layover in Fort Dauphin for about 1 hour.

Finally in Tulear airport, another small Mada one-plane-a-day-airport, a lot of red tape before allowed into the country. Don't forget a pencil.

At the exit almost teared apart by the taxi drivers who literally start fighting over me to bring me to town. Definitely a buyers market.

First impression: very busy town with massive amounts of people on the streets. Tried first to check in at LE Recif Hotel, but fully booked. Than Serena hotel but also full. So I asked the driver to bring me to Amazone Hotel. They still had vacancies. Big and clean rooms but very noisy at night I was about to find out later on.

I started first to check out the beach road in front of the hotel. It was a deception. Very few SW and all ugly dogs. Around Pizza joint very quiet but all new and nice. LE Boeuf also deserted and TamTam club also very few people, even later on and during the whole weekend. Next doors there was a bar called Les Dromedaires. I think recently opened or renovated and very nice to sit at the bar. Only place on the road with some customers. There I met the first nice girls. Two girls from TulAR and one from a Bush town. We had some drinks and they showed me around town. The place to be for nightlife is LE Roby5 disco just around the corner from Amazone Hotel. Very busy in front of the entrance. People queuing to go inside. The entrance is very narrow with a steep staircase. The disco looks small at the outside but it is very deep and has two levels. Packed with people inside and especially very beautiful girls. I am quit picky but a saw many many 8 and 9's. Far better looking girls than I saw any place in Mada! Even better dan Manson in Tana. Very few white guys and most of the gils looking for a vazah as the highest price. I felt all the looks at me while I was passing by. At the dance floor all the girls tried to make eye contact and start dirty dancing with me. No problem at all to select 3 lookers for a threesome later on the night.

All 3 of them were good performers and one of them was into blow jobs but fady for the 2 other girls. They were funny to and into everything to please me. No fuss about condoms and very liking some DATY.

They stayed till noon for 30 k each and some drinks at the disco. No bad deal.

As a food option I strongly advice LE Jardin. Wonderful Italian restaurant with delicious food options and a very friendly owner.

Thanks, I was also leaning towards Nosy Be. Unfortunately I'll still need to enter via Tana though, because actually my trip is 2 weeks total but I need to spend a week up near Antsiranana for some other (non-mongering) activities and I think the only way to link from Antsiranana to Nosy Be is in / out of Tana.

Thanks also Chris for the GPS recommendation!

P.S. Are there any other forums that you are aware of that cover Mada? I've gone back through about 60 pages on here but the more information the merrier.
