I am not surprised. It is a big establishment and cost a fair few ariary to just sit there empty. As with many third world countries it is most likely just a matter of some palm greasing and a customary wait for face saving and back in business. Seen it happen dozens of times in places like Cambodia and Vietnam. Glad to hear it. Great place to go after a meal at La Terrasse or Lafiche.

If you consider it as a retirement place. Go there and stay for 6 months and find out the vibe. Boredom can pop up easy. And as a resident, the one girl which is with you is overly jealous! No way to fuck around. Malgache are fierce in defending their corral.

Posts: 1486Morondave Food and Accommodation options
As I am a budget monger I ll give you the lowdown from MY perspective.
First tourist island Nosy Kely. You have wide range of options. IMHO totally useless to spend more than 60 k AR a night unless you insist on a swimming pool.
Morondave Beach hotel. Gives you the best bungalow right off the beach. They also have 35 k AR bungalows but really basic. Even for me. The other ok option on island is Cheval de mer. Good location. Wooden bungalows for 60 k. If you take a month you can trade him down to 50 k.
Options in Town. There is 2 budget places. One is Le Batelage. Old type colonial hotel. Run down. Security dingy. And Hotel Zoom owned by a Karane. Decent enough ventilated rooms. Good security. Good flyscreens. Both go for 30 k ar a night. For a month you can knock them down to 20 k AR.
There is another brand new hotel in town which is absolute luxury option. Take room 201 in Hotel Menabe. Its a 150 k room for the price of 60 k.
Food options. Forget all the restos in the tourist area. Too expensive. Stick to the gargottes. dirt cheap.
I love the breakfast and good Wifi at Bougainvilliers. Good for main meal.
Same as Bleu Soleil.
Another good option is Le gourmandise. food takes long time to prepare.
There's another place in town. good pizza for 14k at fab resto near baobab bank.
For Snacks and Espresso and pastries head to

forgot the name but you can't miss it.
That's the short list which so far didn't give me food poisoning.

Posts: 1486Morondave Who is it for?
Morondave is for the discerning 70+ retired monger who wants to cuddle with 30 year plus massage girls or souvenir vendors. If you are looking for an easy lay and wide range of quality chicas that is 7+ no older than 23 don't come here. Here it's down to sheer luck. As there is only a handful mongers on the ground there is no choice. There is some hot girls around at night time.
But buyer beware. M. ors are roaming Insomnia at 2 am. There seems to be no age control at the entrance. Most hot chics are with gasy BFs.
I am sure if you live here as a retired senior monger it is heaven. But you need loads of time. There is no quick game.
But 99% are Lemur tourists passing through to the Alle de Baobabs or the Tsingy.
Here its the passage door for the adventure monger who likes to shag village girls.
Where else can you jump on a freight boutre under sail and make your way southbound to Morombe or Tulear and shag your way down south.
Cone here with a couple of months you'll find loads of sweet lasses.
La Buse.
Who hasn't found a decent lay for 5 days. Probable worse than Diego.

Posts: 1486Morondave- Mystery of the Massage girls
I like that place more and more. Totally laid back. Sunday night I went out. Near Insomnia there is a cool local boite. I love it. All the vezo fisherman hang out there. Goes by the name of daminazy. Just sit on the metal chair and watch the show. Hot massage girls filter in. Dropped by pousse. I waved. But they're shy. Sipping on my Castel GM I watched them disappear into dead ground. Some strange traffic patterns. In the end I bedded no chica but got on the pisser in the coolest reggae bar in the southern hemisphere. Jean LE Rasta. After some rhum arrange I called it a night. Jean who is a great host enjoyed some weed behind the bar. Great vibez. But no woman no cry. Except an expired bird which tried to attach herself to me. NFW.
La Buse.
Contemplating to go to the next level.
Belo sur Mer.
Newest gasy hit. Papa money. Hehehe.

I just want to add: only if your girl is an absolute stunner, take her along. Otherwise just travel alone. There are chances everywhere.
To travel from Tamatave on the Panglanes canal south to Manambato and from there by taxi brousse to Mananjara-Manakara is doable if you got the time. But starting from December, the rain on the east coast will get more heavy and by that the mud will stop any 4 x4 to pass the rivers.
One option for you, if you want to explore the island: take a flight from Tamatave north to Sambava and from there to Diego.
