Sorry, I should have been clearer.

1. I would strongly recommend an SUV because the roads are in bad condition and there are too many accidents. The SUV offers a little more safety than a sedan. I saw a bunch of nasty accident sites on the road.

2. For multiple day flexible itineraries, it makes most sense to have a set daily rate and then pay for the fuel. My daily rate was 130 k / day that covers the car, driver, driver stay / meals, etc. I think it's hard to get this rate remotely. Maybe through drive Mada website. But, you can shop around and get started at short notice. I like to inspect the vehicle, talk to the driver, and set specific details in-person before agreeing and paying. Then, I paid 50% and the other half is due at the end of the trip. They started at 200 k / day and settled on 130 k. So, it helps to negotiate within reason.

3. The manager filled up the tank in front of me and I am supposed to return a full tank at the end of the trip. The mileage of the SUV, as per the manager; is 12-15 kms per liter. That's just for an estimate on fuel expenses. What matters is that I return a full tank.

4. Most hotels offer free room and board to drivers. If you are traveling off-season, then the driver's room can be just like your room. That's a good thing because then your driver is well-rested and can do his job properly.

130 k man. That's nothing. I was quoted ridiculous prices. Thumbs up. But you're an Africa professional. I am not worried you getting lost. Make use of your SUV and sample the hard to reach places.

What I am going to tell you now is a game changer in the logistic of Madagascar, at least it changed a lot (and better) my trip. Let me give you a practical example:

1) go online on airmadagascar.com and search a flight Antanarivo Nosy Be. Price is around 250 Euros.

2) if you are in Mada, go to an Airmadagascar office, wait for your turn and ask the same flight. Price is around 200 Euros.

3) if the lady at the Airmadagascar office is nice enough to do it, ask her to check the same flight but with TSARADIA which is the low cost brand of Airmadagascar (co-operated flight, same planes and time schedule, just the price is cheaper) - price will be around 130 Euros.

4) there is a newly launched website https://tsaradia.com/ where you can do yourself, it's only in french and you can pay with Mvola (local payment in Mada) or credit card (I think there is a % more for this option but still very cheap) - Price will be around 130 Euros.

I did not know at the beginning and ended up paying the Airmadagacsar prices booking in local agency, but now this option make flying a lot cheaper!!

Arranged for a car and driver for eight days and headed out to Andisabe in the late afternoon. Got a 4 WD SUV with driver for 130 k / day + fuel.

The best way, for sure. If your driver works out, could you pass along the contact when you've finished? The one I used last time was adamant about being off the road by nightfall. No starting out for Antsirabe or anywhere in late afternoon.

Andisabe is a cold and rainy place. Works for me. Spent the morning hiking in the national park and checking out the lemurs. Strongly recommended. By the time I was done, it was too late to head to the coast. After shopping around a few hotels, I found a great deal for a bungalow and the staff was very friendly. I invited them to have some rum with me and the driver. Four roughed-up glasses, five irregular cubes of ice, and six people showed up in five minutes, The rum was gone in twenty minutes. I was told there is no nightclub in Andisabe but there are some small bars. So, where does one find a girlfriend? Four of the six guys pulled out their phones and, according to my driver, asked their female friends if they would like to meet a handsome tourist who likes to have fun. At least someone, somewhere, thinks I am handsome! Two of them had leads for me. We drove off to meet one of the girls, and if I didn't like her, I could check out the other one. I was assured that if I didn't like either, they would make more phone calls.

I agreed on the first one, a gorgeous 19 year old, from 10 m away. But I wanted her to like me too. The hotel fellow insisted she will like me and my driver thought I was foolish when I requested him to park the car. I have finished nearly 3 month in Mada and my conclusion is that best is to come for 30 days only. Next week I will coming again from Addiss returned ticket 412 USD.

SO one month in Mada one Ethiopia and one in Gulu Uganda and Mwanza Tanzania. Returned ticket Addis ENTEBBE only 200 usd.

After running in every possible Mada town my list narrowed to Tana and Nosy Be. (only because of the beach and flight from Addis). So coming to nosy and return from Tana. This is multi destination booking for 400 usd return. I will stay 2 weeks next to Ivato a paradise for sex. Three weeks to go! No matter where you are in this country, it is pretty much the same: there is not a lot to do. Prepare yourself for doing nothing, and take it slow. Get bored, run to the next city, and just get bored all over again in a couple days. That's it. As for girls, they're everywhere and anywhere.
