I am considering making a trip to the island from late Feb. To mid Jan. Would the rains impact my chances at hobby, and enjoying the country in general? Would you choose Mada or Philipines for this weather reason?

You mean from January to February. That's cyclone season at its best. What does it mean. A cyclone can wreck your travel plans in no time. If you have deep pockets fly direct to Nosy Be and hole up there. Or fly to Tana and stay put. Tana IMHO is the best place to spend Cyclone season. Up to you. Of course you can travel. But. Roads and bridges are swept away. The roads are in a sorry state already. Not the best time to visit Mada.

I know Philippines well and the Philippines is fine.

But if you're tossing up between the Philippines and Mada based on weather reports then you're asking the wrong question. I have already been to three African countries, read the Mada forum cover to cover and I'm still wondering if I'm ready for Mada. Suggest you RTFF thoroughly before even considering it.

I am still in contact with people from Tana, according to them;.

A simpel flat, two rooms is about 300.000 A a month. Some employee do not get that at all.

To make a living, electricity and water, one need roughly 1'000 '000 A. No luxury.

Easy to figure out what 50/20 K A, means the punter pays.

Once I went home with a girl from Tana. She was living just below the Rova in a family flat she had simpel room for her own and claimed to have a job. Great experience.

Mada people don't really like to bring you home (as compared to other places like Kenya). I went to a few girl's home, and I definitely recommend it (including one with no water, where she had to go and get water in bottles 15 minutes walk away! This is the best way to understand how real life is in Mada.

To the story she told me: She was from Fianarantsoa and has a boy to which her mother takes care. She works at outside Antsirabe as a household aid and sends the money home. Her boss wants to fuck her too what she refuses to do and because of that she saves money for a ticket back to Fianarantsoa.

And yes, tuk tuk are called bajaj in Mada. Never heard people there calling them tuk tuk, except from few tourist vazahas.

In Mahajanga, Diego and other northern villages they are called Tuk-Tuk. Pronounced "tuecktuek" , in Tamatave they are called Bajaj and in Antananrivo you hardly can find any in downtown.

Travellers from the country of origin of Bajajs they will call it everywhere bajaj and don't care of local habits, also in other regards.

Ok its been a while. So here is the review from my last trip to Madagascar in the month of December. 2023...What a trip. Madagascar is the best place to monger, if you can manage to get there. Until next time!

I have a question about your flights. You flew from Tana to Sambava and again from Tana to Majunga. How much did you pay? Also, how far in advance did you make your flight reservations? What was your overall experience with the domestic airline?

As other said, informative report. It always surprises me how people would still pay doubled prices. At Tana, a taxi be girl overnight, 50 K (+ 10 K for taxi if good service) is a standard. For a princess in Manson, maybe 10 K-20 K more. In the province, 30K max. But as repeated here, to each his own! Maybe because I'm French, young and in good shape. It's a corrupt country. So, justice is served in different ways. It's not through the law but via other means. People go missing in mada. I am not trying to fear monger. That's why I said to enjoy this beautiful place as it is and respect the lives of these people. Many people do not like being exploited and posted in media. People do have cameras there. Porn is nothing new in mada. But they do not abuse it. If you are not locals, use it and do not abuse it or you will end up in trouble.

You are not in India! Those are called Tuk Tuk's in Mada.
