I took it seriously and read the Mozambique section of the "south Africa lonely planet". The hotels price are the main drawback.
Nothing in budget option. For Mid-range category they mentioned 5 hotels starting from 50-60US$ and up.
Most of the times this book is correct so I have to wait until I will become a wealthy monger. They got crazy or what?

mate,
the women of this wonderful town of maputo, are available anytime, anywhere. a wink here, a nod there, nice bit of conversation and you are in, as simple as that.

We,( my three cameras and myself), are ready to go, but I didn't know that English is understood. I can take some dives in Ponta Douro. Been many times in south Africa for business.
Are normal girls from the streets/shops are eager to meet foreigners?
Thanks

mate,
english is widely spoken in maputo itself, this is pretty much a diverse multicultural society. as a matter of fact spanish is quite well understood. max, i`m surprised you have not been in this part of africa. do you plan on a trip shortly? you simply have to get your ass there. in several days i will post some reports.

polana is not girl friendly. the security guard will ask you and your girl to report to reception where your single room rate will be changed to a double room. monte carlo & ibis are gf
a tourist visa can be obtained on arrival - a single entry visa costs us$25-00 for most european passports. speed 13 who paid 70 pounds got ripped off!!
malaria tablets are also freely available at any pharmacy in maputo and costs next to nothing - us$10 for a dozen.

Having read the reports I am trying to work out whether Polana is GF – the advice is conflicting.
Any thoughts?

mates,
well! it`s time. leave today on the long awaited trip to maputo, mozambque and south africa. all packed about to make my way to the airport. mates, i make no promises about photo`s and trip reports, although the camera is all ready to fire.
now. pornography is illeagal in mozambique, so i have in plan, to purchase another memory card, don`t want to be stopped by customs. by the way, one has to apply before hand for a travel visa, cost me £70.00 from the local high commision in london, so this is a downside to travel to mozambique. also included, as this is in the vast malaria belt across africa, are the malorone tablets, another £55.00 here. who said travel is not cheap!
we will see what this long awaited trip brings us. i`m very excited and determined to enjoy myself to the fullest.

mates,
i leave this most important request to last. can you believe it! having read through all the reports the going rates are expected to be us$20 or r200.
now these rates are pretty dated, several years old, i would presume with inflation as such, the rates would have risen by now. if one of my mates could kindly inform us all, of the existing rates? my thanks in advance.
afterall, i don`t want to arrive monday and fill the whole of some chicks purse, instead of just filling her hole; if you get my meaning.

Just returned from a very short trip to Maputo, and I am more and more impressed on the easy way to get good and friendly company.
This time I even got the Miss Coconuts election. Plenty of local beauties.
The action now, apart from the very few hooker places (Luso), is the new Casino, just next door to the superbe Coconuts (plenty of local beauties on the week end and easy to pick).
I went twice to MUNDUS a bar and restaurant were some beauties tend to get a pick for the night. Good ambiance and some nice looking girls.
The New Casino, with its bar and disco is the best place to be nowadays.
I meet a fellow monger in Maputo, by phone, but we could not have some action together as we were both busy. The same night with good company.
One of my favorite destinations for mongering!
Cheers,
Barek

It takes about 5 hours to do the 450Kms from Johannesburg to Komatipoort the nearest town (5 Kms) from the border. You need to allow for 30 - 60 minutes at the border depending on what time you arrive. Weekends and early and late in the day are often busy. There is a good toll road from the border straight to Maputo about 100Kms and should take you just over 1 hour.
I will be there from the 5th - 11th - sorry I will miss you.

mates
towards the second half of september i will be making journey from johannesburg to maputo by car. the question i would like to ask! how long is this journey expected to take assuming everything runs according to plan?
regarding my intentions once in maputo, monday and tuesday i intend booking into monte carlo hotel. luzo nightclub seems to be the only port of call on an early day week. this will be the first half of my trip - an appertizer, so to speak!
unfortunately, thereafter, i have to leave on business to the natal north coast. returning the following week- for the main course- wednesday through monday. heh, heh.
on reading the somewhat old posts on the mozambique forum, thursday is ladies night at sheik, first though, will visit africa bar. coconuts, will be on the ajenda friday and saturday. if any of my mates on the forum would like to inform myself to do otherwise, please do not hesitate to let me know. we always like to improve things. any isg members requiring a lift, pm myself. at this stage i am finalizing my plans.
cheers
