Wirtshaus

Wirtshaus is a bar/restaurant on Independence Avenue, across the street from the Hilton.

I didn't expect the club to get too busy on a traditionally slow Sunday night, but the dance floor was soon heaving. The overall babe quality was low, but I still spotted a few slender cuties I fancied taking for a spin. I ended up spending the night with a local beauty with rainbow hair who claimed she was attending modelling school. Total sweetie!

Chez Ntemba was still rocking as I left after 3 AM. Namibians know how to party!

Another club I heard of is Fashion. It's on Bahnhof St, not far from the corner with Independence Avenue. BTW, whatever Google maps says, the Protea Thuringerhof is on that corner.

I didn't have a chance to check the place out.

Streetwalkers

On Monday & Tuesday nights, all discos are closed! Robbed of party options, I checked out the streetwalker scene.

There are girls hanging out on Independence Avenue, around the Wirtshaus.

Another streetwalker haunt is J&J Gambling House, on the corner of Luther St & Goethe St. J&J is purely a pool & gambling hall. No dancing allowed, so the sign says. Bit*ches aren't allowed either. Even when I invited a girl to share my beer, security wouldn't let her in.

Conclusion

Windhoek is a compact town, with a clear city centre. Taxis are cheap. Drinks are cheap. Pussy is cheap. It has an interesting racial mix. I would have loved to spend more time exploring Windhoek's nightlife. Alas!

On paper, Gaborone sounded better than Windhoek. In reality, I hated Gaborone, and liked Windhoek. You live, you learn!

AT&T Monnakgotla Bus

I traveled to Windhoek from Gaborone on the AT&T Monnakgotla bus, which only runs on Fridays & Sundays. Tickets cannot be bought online. Their office in Gaborone is outside Main Mall. The fare is 390 BWP.

To my surprise, the voyage was actually by minibus, with a trailer for the luggage. The bus left at 7 AM & arrived at 6.30 PM, so the trip took 12.5 hours (taking into account the 1 hour time difference). An hour was wasted at the border. At least another hour was taken up by frequent 2-hourly breaks. To cover 1100 km in a good 10 hours was lightning fast!

My Deluxe Room was huge, and a great deal at 67 EUR / night (Expedia). The hotel is perfectly girl-friendly.

Taxis

Taxis have letters & numbers on the side, and roam the city looking for passengers. Taxis are shared by default, so don't be surprised if the driver stops to pick up another passenger. The standard fare is 10 NAD before midnight, and 20 NAD after midnight.

Just got back from a week's holiday in Windhoek. My opportunities for mongering were limited but managed to get one good night of debauchery in!

Took in a couple of old favourites from previous happy visits: the bar in the lobby of the Kalahari Sands and Zum Wirt, which has now changed it's name (the long-standing German owner has apparently sold it to some Oshivambo guys from Namibia) to Wirtshaus.

Was in the Kalahari Sands bar from 5-7pm, but no action whatsoever. Might have picked a bad night, even though it was Friday; it being December, many of the local lovelies may have left the city to go back to their villages. Bar was full of old fellas not buying drinks and watching the coverage of Madiba's death on TV.

Took myself up the road to Wirtshaus and was not disappointed. Some good looking black chicks in the bar already, and I positioned myself out in the beer garden for some fresh air and to plan my attack. Was soon joined by an odd couple of ladies: Anthea, a young coloured chick with a very fit tight body, and Wilhelmina, who was much older and not much cop in the conversation stakes.
