Hey guys,

I had a very interesting yelling match with the owner of girlsonline. Seems he thinks nothing is wrong and everyone except for me hasent had a problem. I donno someone who has my money and can split with it at anytime and there would be nothing I could do? Nice banking laws here also. But I guess in any country if you put money into an account there is nothing a bank can do.

I agree the Hillbrow area is not safe. But there are other places in the Hillbrow/ Joubert Park/ Berea areas that provide some interesting alternatives to the Summit Club.

The basic ground rules have been stated in a few posts but they are worth repeating:

- NEVER walk anywhere after dark. Even a couple of blocks can be too far.

- Public transport is virtually non existant other than taxis which are not always easy to find and are quite expensive. If you've got a couple of days or more in Johannesburg, hire a car. Car hire is relatively inexpensive and it gives you freedom of movement. Most of the mongering in Johannesburg - other than the few clubs mentioned on this board - is done from private houses in the suburbs. A car makes hundreds (literally) of women available within a 20 to 30 minute drive.

- Always drive with the car doors locked and the windows closed, especially at night.

- Always use a condom - even for BBBJ. You can catch some nasty things from the mouths of Jhb sex girls!

So, if you're bored with the Summit Club, or just want something different, try these:

1. The German Club. (NOT the one in the phone book which is a country club catering for Germans!) This is situated in Joel Street in Berea. Not in the phone book and not mentioned on the internet anywhere. At least, not that I could find. It has no name board outside but has German and other flags hanging outside. Not a great area to be in but its safe enough from the security of a car. To get there, drive south along Lily Avenue in Berea (going towards the city centre from the Sandton side) and turn right into Joel Street. The "club" is about half way down the block on the left hand side. The entrance is not obvious as it is closed at night for security reasons. Immediately after you pass the flags there is a solid sliding door which is the entrance to the secure parking. Just stop outside and a guard will open the gate for you and close it immediately behind you. This used to be the main bar in the area but there are several others that have cropped up nearby and the girls tend to go there first and gravitate to the German club later. It's generally humming from about 11.00 pm and closes at 4.00am. Basically it's unashamedly a brothel although some guys do go there just for the bar atmosphere. Most of the girls in the bar live in the rooms upstairs. I have never seen any girls other than blacks in this bar. Mostly they are visitors from countries to the north there for a few weeks before moving on. Lately there seem to be quite a few girls from Zambia. There are lots of dogs in this bar - probably a 3 or a 4 on my scale but you get the occasional looker. Later on at night there are lots of 6's and 7's and sometimes an 8 if you're lucky! Prices seem to be the same for the 3's and for the 8's which is quite quaint and makes it worth waiting for the better lookers. Most girls will go with you for R150 but I usually give R200, especially if the service has been good. That's one thing about the black girls in Jhb. They nearly all love sex. Although it's their job they generally set out to enjoy themselves as much as you. Big contrast to the white girls who often (although there are exceptions) give a mediocre performance and charge much more for it.

2. Steves. This is also in Joel Street but turn left from Lily Avenue instead of right. The place also has no sign board outside but it's easy to find the floodlit car park along on the left. Parking is secure (guard) who will show you which way to walk to the bar.

3. Club 109. So named because it's situated at 109 Lily Avenue, just off Louis Botha Avenue. Also no sign outside and similar parking arrangement to the German Club. Just wait outside and someone will open the gate. If the parking's full, there's an overflow parking area around the corner in Louis Botha Avenue. This seems to be the "in" place at the moment. Again nearly all black girls but not exclusively. Much more lively in the early evening than the other two places mentioned. The girls seem to go there first and then move on to places like the German Club later.

4. For the really brave, try the Royal Park Hotel in Joubert Park. Situated in on the corner of Nugget and Leyds Streets. This is a terrible part of town even during the day and I only go in if I can get parking in Leyds Street in the same block that the hotel is in. There are always a few taxis parked right outside so a taxi is a proposition if you don't have your own car. There are lots of undesirable looking characters hanging around in the street who ostentatiously point out parking spaces to you. They invariably offer to "look after your car" and I always agree for fear of what will happen if I don't! They are always there when you get back to the car and they do seem to genuinely look after it so as to ensure their tip. Five rand usually satisfies them. The Royal Park holds itself out to be an "entertainment centre". They have a fairly large and lively bar which has a big screen for music videos and have fairly tame strip shows there some nights but there doesn't seem to be any regularity to these. There's also a separate bar with pool tables. The nights they have a strip show they charge R20 or R25 cover charge to go in. Other nights it's free. The hotel has several floors and the place is really just one big brothel - like the Summit Club. The girls - nearly all black but usually a few Thai's as well -are a bit pushy and it's impossible to avoid being propositioned on a constant basis. Some of them are really ugly but some of them are quite decent looking. Girls seem to come mainly from either Zambia or Mocambique. Some of the Mocambiquans are very good looking and all seem to have a voracious appetite for horny sex. The going rate here also seems to be R150 - even for the good looking girls. Many of them will do doubles if you want them to. It's mainly active at night but it's also open in the afternoons with a reasonable number of girls available. The bars close at about midnight.

i travel often to johannesburg on business and make it a point to stay as far away from hillbrow as i can. i was almost hijacked by a group of nigerian guys a few years ago when i got lost in the city and ended up in hillbrow.

i wouldn`t advise anyone to travel to hillbrow alone, especially if it`s your first time in johannesburg. most south africans who value their lives haven`t driven anywhere near hillbrow for the past 10 years. it`s been turned into a huge cesspool where murder, [CodeWord123] and hijackings are commonplace.

the nigerians control most of the johannesburg cbd. hillbrow has to be on of the most dangerous places in the world once the sun goes down. even the police are shit scared to venture into the area at night.

my advice would be to stick to the more upmarket venues in sandton, randburg and fourways. it may cost a few rand more but the quality of girls will be better and those areas are much safer.

I saw a posted article that I want to comment on but couldn't. It made me mad that I wasn't able to catch that point were I could explain what really turns me on about a women when she's being perspicacious.

Couldn't agree with you more. The only Blacks in the Summit Club are foreigners, and, as a Black American, I've found my color to be as much a hinderance as an advantage (Nigerians have developed a bad reputation around South Africa, and many women think I'm Nigerian until I tell them otherwise).

As for the safety issue, your biggest risk is walking across the street from the parking lot to the club, but toss the guy a Rand or two and he'll escort you across.

The Summit Club is a very smooth, professional operation that knows it's good business to keep you happy: in short, they'd rather you give them your money voluntarily than to just rip you off. Furthermore, this club is still technically illegal. If somebody could demonstrate a link between club management and the "freelance" bar girls, the club would likely be closed as a brothel. The best way to have this happen is to have pissed off, ripped off customer complaining to the cops.

That said, I might reiterate Luis' advice--

Take a cab and go straight in. Do not sight see, do not be a cheapskate and take a bus or bush taxi there. If you drive, consult a map BEFORE you leave your hotel, as there are a number of one-way streets down there, and you do not want to drive around looking like you're lost. Oh yeah, and the AIDS thing too.

Having been a client at the Summit Club for the last four years, and can vouch for it being very safety concious. Granted, the neighborhood is a little scarely, but inside it's like a fortress. Keep in mind that 95% of the clients at the Summit Club are white South Africans and foreigners (most black South Africans can not afford it), so any hint of violence at the club would mean the end of business.

Here is the procedure I always use.

1. I always take a taxi from my hotel to get there around 10:30 to 11 pm. I also usually make arrangements for the driver to pick me up about 3 hours later. The club does have a fleet of certified taxis at the door, but they tend to be really rundown Toyotas as opposed to the hotel Mercs. Also sometimes the downtown taxi drivers have no money for gas, so they ask you to pay part of the fare upfront so that they can fill the tank (I kid you not). Not to mention that the downtown drivers don't always speak English and don't always know their way to the upscale Sandton area. Still, I've taken the club taxis lots of times without incidents.

2. I walk straight into the club. Do not walk around the block!

3. Once inside, you'll get frisked professionally by the doorman before being allowed to walk up one flight of stairs to the club foyer. Keep in mind that there is a dress code so you can't walk in with sleaveless shirts, baseball caps or shorts.

3. In the foyer you pay the cover charge (under $10 USD last time I was there) and they give you a raffel ticket, then you are free to wander around.

4. On your right there's a large pool room with a sports bar (cricket and rugby on TV), and the main club with a stage on the left. Down the corridor in the middle they also have a smaller room with a stage for special shows.

5. I usually go straight to the bar in the main club, it's the best view of the stage with the added convenience of watching all the girls go by. I order a drink and relax. The girls will see you come in, and some may come up to you and ask if you want company. A polite 'no thanks' and a smile to the first few will keep them off your back. If I see someone I like, I smile at them and they'll come over. We chat, and if I think they are nice I buy them a drink. This is where I sort out the nicer girls from the nasty drunken girls. Sooner or later they will ask you if you want to sit at a table, this will allows them to rub our crotch while they negotiate a price (150 to 200 rands on week days, may be a little higher on weekends when demand is stronger). If you are lucky, your raffle number may get called throughout the evening and you may win a cheap local bubbly.

6. If you can agree on a price ,you both finish your drink and you follow her (yes in front of everybody) to the main foyer where you take one of the elevators to her room. Ah, I remember those silent elevator rides as you and the other punters try to avoid eye conact while your respective mates rub their asses against your crotch. The rest, I take it, you will figure out on your own. Oh yes, assume the girl you are with has AIDS.

7. I usally like to have a drink before I go, and sure enough my taxi is waiting.

I've come to rather like the Summit Club. The seer seediness of Hillborough is half the thrill. The girls in general are friendly, although some can get rude when they get drunk. I treat them nice and they are great fun. On weekends it can get roudy, in a 'sports bar' kind of way, Wednesdays and Thursdays are nice but mondays and Tuesday the place can be rather empty. Most of the girls are black, a some are coulered (mixed) and a few are oriental. I am still concerned about safety aspect of going to Summit Club. 2 hookers I see occasionally (black) say that I would be taking my life in my hands if I visited that club.
