Be advised--Went to Zim for the first time in Jan. 07. Most of the info in LP is wrong. They have as of 01/07 closed all forex places which offered the unofficial rate. The only way to get the unofficial rate is through your hotel, and try to be discreet. This presents a problem on arrival, unless you happen to have zim $ on you. Also, hotels no longer allow foreigners to pay in local currencies, and the hotels in Harare listed in LP range from $30 US to $80 US. This place is no longer the bargain it was once reputed to be.

Unofficial rate $1US = 4400 Zim$
Official rate $1US = 250 Zim$

The HIV rate is sky high so I would stay away from the Avenues women. If you look in the classified section of the newspaper The Herald, you can find good massages either in private houses or they will usually travel. The women are usually very nice, pretty and obliging. The full price varied between US$5 and US$15. Generally I have to say that the Zimbabwe women are NOT the best on the continent.

i forgot the name of the bar i went to in avenues harare. i dont know what town you ganna be in. you can alsa chat with the girls at the haridressers. i went for a haircut and found some nice women if you find a nice hunne just take her out for a meal and you can be very lucky

i think zimbabwe will be a tremendous destination for any monger. once, that is, uncle bob decides to pass on, and the political situation comes to it`s senses. it is just too dangerous to be mongering in this country until such time as there is change. the police deal severely with the working girls, and heaven help any foreigner who is caught with her at that. you are likely to be accused of being a colonial spy, especially if you are english speaking. would not chance it, for all the money.

zimbabwe will certainly will be on my list of "must do", in the future. this is a truelly beautiful country, once investment takes place, and zimbabwe opens itself up to the world, this will be new ground for all would be hunters, especially, of the two legged variety. imho.

While I was there I did not see or hear of any food shortage or crisis. I proceeded through Harare and Bulawayo as safe as can be. The only issue was the inconvenience of handling the countless Zim dollars due to the inflation. Now, from what I have heard, that situation is presently under control.

I flew from NYC to London into Harare. I flew from Harare into Bulawayo--no problems.

The Zimbabwe people (esp. the ladies) are very charming and gregarious.
A lot of the stuff I heard before I went about the gasoline shortage and violence ...I didn't see it. In fact, Zimbabwe is a great African experience without the high price tag.

One thing I did hear about was Cellphone snatching. One needs to be very careful in carrying/showing-off cellphones.

The Western press has really done a hatchet job on Zimbabwe. They're even making it seem that the Zims are racist . Man, those people love foreigners..I saw a good number of Asians and whites in the major tourist areas in Harare and Bulawayo.

How is the food situation there? Question asked as the papers here in europe write that there is a food shortage so people are actually starving. If it is a real shortage it actually means one cannot get food even if one has money, how was it?

The security situation, how was your experience of it?

How did you get in and out of the county, overland trip or airplane?
