Fled from Bahrain last night. It's just dead. If you got contacts to some resident WGs you can call upon it is ok. If you do have the choice to plan your trip with a stopover in either Dubai or Bahrain definitely go via Dubai (see my latest Dubai report why.

Diggers and all other clubs are closed. Phoenicia Hotel and Tower are closed for refurbishment (much needed anyway) I guess. I drove by and nothing was lit but some construction workers were milling about, thus, didn't even bother to get out of the car to check.

I stayed in the Delmond Hotel. At least their air conditioning was switched on. Business is so low that some hotels don't have air con on at all such as Mashtan or Bahrain International, i.e. if you check in you spend the first few hours in a stuffy and hot room until the air con is up and running. BTW, the 'arcade of sin' at the ground floor of the Bahrain International is of course also closed.

Considering the above I didn't bother wasting time driving around Bahrain's annoying one-way streets to check out other places such as Best Western and so on in Juffair but just got the hell out of there. Some coffee shops are open, you can have shisha and soft drinks and try your luck with the waitresses but that's usually a long shot. In fact from what I've been told by them they can be thrown out of the country if caught with somebody in a hotel because their visa apparently doesn't allow that line of work. (Such visas are available of course but much more expensive to obtain.)

However, testing the waters I asked the hotel boy who showed me the room in Delmond for ladies and he said he could call a Thai. So, that seems to be still there but I didn't follow through as I prefer seeing first what might end up in my bed before making the approach. Delmond and also Mashtan have their gym/sauna/massage in operation after 8pm. Bearing in mind previous FRs there's sometimes more than a massage on the table depending on your luck but that's just me thinking aloud what could be possible without trying. I just wasn't motivated enough to keep looking for nothing during dry season in Bahrain. I'd rather go to Dubai instead.
