Just buy a few small tubes, or a bottle of lube and bring it yourself. It's not sold in every corner market and you don't want to be walking around looking for it.

One thing that is sold there is the HIV prophylactic TENOVIR. If you are worried about HIV, you can buy Tenovir at the Myittar Mon pharmacy across from the hospital, near Chinatown. Cost is about $1. 00/ pill. Dose is 1 tablet a day. Start about a week before and continue a week after and you will have extra protection. So, for a 1 week visit, $21 will buy some peace of mind. HIV is common in Yangon, especially with older workers.

Has anyone heard of Mongla? It is supposedly the "Wild West" (although on the east side of the country) of Myanmar. Here, a man can have any desire satisfied.

I like to visit Mongla some time. But this area is supposed in a area rampant with opposition soldiers. So I'm hoping to get more info about this place.

I have been. Frankly I didn't think it was all that amazing. There are a couple of sensational journalist reports about the Wild East and crazy sex offered with rare type of people, of live tigers, of drugs. I think these were written by authors that wanted to publish something exotic-sounding. It makes tantalizing reading, but it mostly bullshit. I spent 2 days there with a guide who speaks Chinese, Khmer, and English. There was none of that there. Yes, I saw some tiger parts for sale in a hidden market and some bear gall bladders. Yes, there are prosititutes but the quality was pretty average, the prices not cheap, the service not good. I was not offered any virgins for $50/ night. There were no posters offering undr-age women delivered to your hotel.

I tried going there perhaps a year ago, but it was totally impossible for a foreigner coming from the Myanmar side.

I know about the clubs and bars but I'm really into the freelancers on the street scene. Thailand is plentiful. The girls are walking around all over and there doesn't seem to be a real spot. However I had heard in Yangon you don't have this but instead need to know where they are. I had heard about Inya Lake and the end of some market is where they hang out. Is anyone familiar with this? Visa Situation:

I was last in Tachileik 6 months ago. I used eVisa and strongly recommend it. You get to keep your passport and that's worth the cost to me. Make sure to print out the authorization that you are given once your eVisa is approved.

You can still do the old exchange passport for visitor permit process, but there is no longer a day pass where you keep your passport.

Hotels:

The Nich hotel is right near the border crossing. It's very GF (never been given trouble with 10 girls taken there). Rooms are reasonably priced, comfortable, and you don't have to do any walk of shame as the entrance to the rooms is separate from the lobby.

Some questions regarding tachileik:

1. VISA situation: last I went there, it was possible to enter without a visa, but they would only give you a day pass (actually keep your passport until you left the country back to Thailand in the evening). Is that still the case? If I want to stay the night, do I have to get a visa before or do they now have a visa-on-arrival?

2. Hotels: Can you recommend any acceptable hotel that fulfill the following requirements:

- girl-friendly.

- privacy (don't like the walk of shame).

- acceptable level of comfort (no wooden hut).

Prices in the new treasure chest were 35 just a couple scant years' ago, during which time commercialism has taken over- in cost and attitude. Still there's novelty value for the latecomers evidently.

IMO Yangon is very far from being a treasure chest for mongering, it's actually pretty bad by regional standards.

BTW, does anyone have any news on whether JJs has reopened or might do so in the future? If it doesn't I will endeavour to avoid Myanmar in the future.
