Mongla is a new town on the chinese border some 80 km. from Keng Tong. I staid at the Mongla hotel. $10.00 us a night. Tv is all chinese plus one porn channel. Pubic hair is not allowed to be shown. The New Market is a special economic zone where prostitution, gambling, and internet are legal. to get there from mongla hotel ,walk out of hotel continue straight under the clock tower go over bridge then go down stairs continue and look for large open tall roof with stall after strall of merchandise and restaurants. the girls are in brothels just on one corner. near the pool tables. maybe 100 or so girls. All girls are chinese, 20 to 25 years old some new. very good looking , the action starts in afternoon . After dark when cars drive by slowly the girls come out and stand in a line just like Svay Pak used to be. But they are 300 yuan for st, and 600 long time. I only tried two both were very passionate . You give the girl money, not the "Boss". as they call them. So I think the girls keep most of the money. Also, there are about 10 girls hanging around the clock tower at night , to go sleep 500 yuan, the police drive by and the girls are not afaid of them. The internet is hard to use because they use chinese. maybe 20 internet stalls with 10 to 20 computers each place. The web address cache is full of chinese porn sights. I would say that mongla is one of the best places I have been, but I was the only caucasean there. and I spent a lot more the I'm used to spending in cambodia. If any one has question ask and

I just arrived in Mongla. Teng Tong is more of a dump then Tachilek plus has no girls available, not even for massage. Mongla has girls ( maybe over 100) at new market plus the only place in Burma with internet. I'll send more info soon.

I'm thinking about going to Keng Tong and then Mongla, but seems like no one ever made report, Any one have info? how safe is it? If I go I'll put in report.

More lady houses in tachilek, if you continue on main road instead of turning left on road to morning star, turn right on next street, go down to second block there are about 3 or 4 more houses there, 300 and 500 bt st. if you go back to main road continue toward airport, there are some thatched roof style brothels in a run down looking area , turn left don't remember exactly how far.

The Thai-Brma border is now fully open at Mae Sai - Tachileik.

Once accross the border, Tachilek is more or less the same as Mae Sai, pretty much of a dump!

Only difference is, very few restaurants and bars, apart from the street vendor variety.

Singha beer is half price from Thailand, as are cigarettes. Shopping on the many market stalls around the border is about 20% cheaper than Thailand, but most of the goods are very cheap China-manuafactured items, with far less choice than on the Thai side.

Chinese medicines and Teas are good value, if that's what turns you on!

As for P4P ... the many cigarette vendors will offer you "lady ... very small". Going rate is Bht 500 S/T. No real L/T rates available, as most people haveto return to Thailand before the border closes at 18:00pm.

Chose your pimp carefully, and then he will take you by moto to a series of "lady houses" about 1Km from the border.

Selection of 5 - 8 girls in each, very pleasant, all aged around 18-20. They will take you to a room, very basic, with basic shower facilities, but quite safe.

In none of these houses do the girls seem anything other than very happy, and certainly they are not the terrible places of captivity reported by the various NGOs!

Enjoy .... but cover up!

If you do get a hotel room and visa to stay overnight, the main street for the lady houses is:
Head accross the bridge at the border.
Go to the roundabout with the sign "Golden Triangle City" on it
Take the right turn from the roundabout, and go 1.5Kms, until the Mekong River Resort Hotel. First Soi on the left after this is signposted "Morning Star Guest House". In this Soi are three or four lady houses, S/T rooms, and overnight rooms available from the guest house.

Other hotels to stay in, which can be booked at Chiang Rai Airport upon arrival, as they all have offices there, are:-
Regina Entertainment Hotel & Golf Club
Golden Triangle Paradise Resort
Allure Resort

All these places can arrange entry permits for you, and transfer you for about Bht 500 one way.

At the time of writing there was not actual Internet to be found in Rangoon and I suspect anywhere in the area under central government control (the Shan Bang special area in Mengla on the Chinese border has Internet service). E-mail can be sent and received at hotels via the hotel's own account but it costs US$ 1 to send a page. So don't think you will just look at the detals for names and locations after you get there, write them down before you go.
