Which is a better choice, Big Luck or Paris hotel for 4 nights in March?? Anyone has any personal experience? Have a better suggestion?

Big Luck is a great place to stay. I was there in January 2007. It is well located. The staff is helpful and courteous. The rooms are clean and nice. The breakfast is well done. There is an internet shop in the back of the hotel for cheap. There is a big grocery store across the street. The two main mongering places (ie. Martini's & the rest) are in opposite directions equal distance. Ask for Room 206. It was the best room with a view & jacuzzi! . Good luck!

I arrived in PNH recently from BKK. Overall I am enjoying myself, but am disappointed by the Hotel Cambodiana. I originally tried to stay at Bougain-Villier, but they were full, and figured I "What the Hell" and decided to spring for opulence.

The outside of the hotel is, of course, beautiful, as is the lobby. The room they had available has a view of the river, available in room internet, et cetera, all for $120/night. A little steep, but I am on vacation and can afford it.

I checked into the room, and it is not bad, but it is NOT five star material. It uses the 1970's motel style lighting controls and fixtures. The bathroom is in no way luxurious.

The staff are however top notch, and the room service's 24 hour menu is not bad. Bed's are comfortable and the room is clean.

In room wireless internet is $15 for 24 hours but the staff taught me that if I log out of the login timer page then I am only charged for the minutes I used, so a 24 hour card could last, well, as long as it takes to surf the net for 24 hours.

$120 ++ is just too much for this room. I could get nearly the same for half at another place. Those who are not backpackers or budget travelers should book ahead.

The girls at Cyrcee told me $30 (+$7 to mama) = $37LT
They claimed it would be for as long as I wanted (eg until 3pm)
but it can depend on the girl (or the orders they are given by the mamasan).

For me this is too much money for these girls - they aren't worth it.
Same goes for $17ST (incl $2 for room) - too much for the quality of girls on offer
(there is rarely anything I want for that money esp. considering Sophie's is $10).

Dunno why Circee quoted $30. When I was there in mid December I was quoted $15. Found out that better to get there early as later on the girls are tired and may not swamp you (which is a nice experience by itself).

Otherwise, I would agree that to call the Sophie girls "sweeties" is overdone. The girls were wearing so much make-up that I was wondering at one point if they were travestites. I did not find them attractive but then of course YMMV.

Prices are naturally overblown but can go down quickly when they see you know the real prices.

No real dangers if you stay away from some rougher neighborhoods at nite, but since you only plan to be there 1-2 days?--too short a time to get to know city so best to take moto or taxi everywhere, especially at nite.

LeCyree and Sophies =mainly ST with on site rooms.

Sharky and Martini are usually places for LT pick ups (about $20)

On Pattaya Beach Road (which is not exactly the Country Club)they quote the right price (500 baht for short time) up front..

I'm a regular in Patts when I do my vacations to Asia. And not everyone I met in LOS gave me a proper price without negotiating at times. Yes, sometimes a few will quote correct prices but even in LOS its never like that all the time. A few even said 3000b ST? So even in LOS, they will try to get as much as they can, but again, if they know you know the correct prices they will back down. Even some of the popular MPs in BKK will try to rip you off with prices if they feel you are new there. So, it may not be as bad in LOS but price gouging still exist as this is SEA.
