    Trap

Hi guys, I would be travelling to phnom penh on Apr 18. Did some research on the net and saw lot of stories about tourist getting into traps where the pimp offers WG and once the customer takes her in a bunch of guys show up to blackmail you claiming the WG is below 18. How common is this and how to be cautious?

    Dunno about OK Boutique.

I have stayed at Point Boutique and I would recommend it highly.

I got a King Suite room which is usually just one of its kind on a floor, I got the highest floor which was good. Affords a nice view of the river and skyline. Also keeps the noise and smells of Street 130 away. The room is spacious and well appointed. IT is a relatively new hotel, so the fixtures and fittings have that typical new feel to it. The bathroom is clean, has a standing shower with a localised water heater. The fridge in my room was not working well, but the staff fixed that quickly. Bed is comfortable. The balcony is really an apology though, be careful while entering or exiting the balcony, as the AC compressor unit is mounted in an awkward manner there.

Importantly, it is girl friendly. Staff won't blink an eyelid when you walk past them with a girl or two in tow. The location is very convenient, right on the street where all the action is. Convenience stores, restaurants, etc are all right outside the hotel. Can be easily found on maps.

    Blue Tongue changes name again

Blue Tongue Hotel which was remodeled a few years has changed its name twice since they completed the job.

Last year it was Highland Hotel.

Could not find that name for a new reservation this week.

Zhe Jian Hotel name kept popping up. Then I notice the address. Same as Blue Tongue / Highland.

Prices are basically the same as last year.

Please. Would somebody take over the old Walkabout Bar lease. There is never anybody eating in that place. All you would need is a bar and an okay cook. The girls would come back and the guys would follow. There is no place in that area that has an inside bar. The old Walkabout Bar had customers 7/24. It was the second floor hotel that sucked. That second floor is gone. Somebody should take a chance at that location. Also include a pool table for the girls.

There is at least one advantage of keeping mostly dollars: it takes less place in your pocket.

There is no difference in pricing between dollars and riels. The exchange rate is more or less fixed at around 4000 riels equals one US dollar, with a very tiny spread on the buy / sell. So there is no advantage to holding dollars versus riels.

There are moneychangers all over the place in Phnom Penh. I prefer to carry riels and will go and change a $100 usd note into riel notes which are low denomination and therefore make it easier to pay for hotels, restaurants, hookers, and fruit.

Grab will give you the price in Riel. Everything else is in dollars. Everyone talks in dollars. Change, less than one dollar, will be given in Riel notes. 1 K Riel = 25 cents USD. 200 Riel = 5 cents USD.

    Rates

Sorry to be stupid. Will arrive PP around Mar 22 and want to be sure I don't pay to much and mess it up for you guys.

    I've RTFF and see.

ST is $50, you may get it for less. LT is $60-70 plus bar fine.

Assume this is in a bar or take out.

What is the going rate at a MP for 'extra service'?

Assume a better price in dollars vs Riels.

    Thanks in advance.

    P Chop.

Short tuk tuk rides are $1. Welcome to Southeast Asia.
The Gringo tax is everywhere, Not just SE Asia. YMMV. If you use Grab to get a tuk tuk, a short ride is 75 cents.

A Lady Drink is $3. 50, as is a bottle of beer, I think. Could be $2. 50, depends on the brand. My Jameson on the rocks was $5. 50. If you're going to ring bells at every bar, nightly, that $1 K is not enough. Up to YOU as they say in SE Asia. LOL.

    Correction

Correction to my report #7486: In case anyone wants to try their luck: The Hot Vietnamese Drink Slot was found at Splash bar on 130st. The second unfriendly was found at Avi bar, which is across from Sensations Bar on 130th st.

I ran into Drink Slots last night: at Tokyo and Alaska. They showed no luv. LOL Looks of chicks at these two bars though.

Found a very friendly petite gal at the sister bar of the Phnom Penh Hilton on 136st. However, she spoke minimal english. The turn off was the cigarette burn on her upper left thigh. I was thinking Self-inflicted! My spidy-sense was kicking, so I passed on her.

I returned to One Zero Four bar, only found one of my two. Bar fined her and enjoyed a passionate night with her.
