Since I was nearby I decided to stop by a couple of bars on 136 to see what the scene was like. What a bad idea! The experience in both the places I stopped by was the same. I got no farther than opening the doors and taking 1 step inside and was overcome by real bad music played at a painfully loud volume. Having conversation with a woman was impossible. Even if I could put up with the bad music, I couldn't put up with damaging my ears to do it. I immediately lost all interest, turned around, and left.

It's hard to believe there are people who actually tolerate these places. What are the business owners thinking?

Is there a bar in that area anyone can recommend that doesn't play music so loudly that it's painful?

That is my sentiments exactly. I remember telling one of the bar owner that patrons of bars are there for the girls, not the music, and to keep it in the background. I remember his reply was but this kind of music is the theme of the bar. I look around and could find not a single thing that points remotely to any theme.

I am not prejudiced against any kind of music, even Khmer, but it could be easier on the ear if they turn it to a reasonable volume, especially on those beat up speakers.

went to the candy bar yesterday. i hadn't dropped by for over a year. many many girls (around 50-60) and only few customers although this was a saturday night. i was particularly pissed by the fact the 3 girls i was successively interested by refused to go out. they claimed that they are just here to entertain clients but don't go out with customers. this happens a lot near the riverside in many bars where half of the girls are just "hostesses" basically and not prostitutes. this is the exact reason why i never go there. i guess street 104 is not like this too much, you can get laid easily there. however, for those who like it (not my thing) , candy bar counts many ladyboys. i guess there were around 10 of them yesterday night in there and these guys are very willing to have you bar fine them. according to one of the girls, they are the most successful with the customers, hahaha. i think candy is one of the only places with ladyboys in pp, apart from the heart and pontoon.

also, for those interested, i tried a girl at what phnom at night last week. somebody on this forum used to say it was a **** area. i can tell you this is definitely over since i haven't seen any **** girls there but only girls from 25 to 30yo. they stand there from 7pm to midgnight and i saw few ladyboys sometimes too. the area is actually calm, with only a bunch of 5 girls waiting in a street going from what phnom to the river. they ask for 10 usd for st but negotiated to 7 usd. they bring you to a shitty guesthouse where they charge you 10 000 riels for 1 hour. the girl was not too bad, around 25 yo but couldn't speak a word of english. just basic fuck as local do it (so no bj, just a hj and then a fuck) but was something to try once. will not go again though, i like bj too much.

it seems very quiet all over the boards here even popular places like thailand and philippines are quiet here, i guess guys don't have the money to travel much now days.

Not a chance. Bring your own from PP. If you can't there's Kampot 25km away. Never saw action there myself but a motodriver asked me there once if I wanted some action. In the other direction (same distance) you have the Ha Tien Vegas casino which can arrange girls. The town of Ha tien itself is dead.

As for prices, depends on a lot, time of night, your age and looks, luck etc.

Well there are a number of things in Cambodia worth worrying about for the casual visitor / monger, but losing your passport at the visa counter at Pochentong isn't one of them. It's one of the single most efficient operations in the whole country, and given the income it generates, it ought to be.

I don't normally do this but I am recommending the quite new heartbreak bar in st 110 next door to the riverhouse.

The food is great!

Some nice girls and the food is really good and reasonably priced.

It is run by a nice khmer family as well.
