I've never been to Cambodia but have the chance to spend a few days either side of Christmas baby-sitting the offce in PP. Workwise, I t should be a doddle but wondering if the city will be a ghost town or in full-on party mode?

For me, HCMC isn't a great place either. I wouldn't go there for mongering, that's for sure. Still the BJ barber shops aren't bad. If it was in the US I'd probably like it a lot more. But when you're this close to Thailand, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau and Singapore, both countries are just absolutely [CodeWord140] poor.

About the prices: I know literally hundreds of places throughout Asia where the girls don't ask as much as I was quoted in PP, even if just initially, and every one of those countries is richer and more expensive generally. That's the main thing that pissed me off. For years I kept hearing about $5 short times, all this other shit. The reality was much different. Maybe a crack head that hasn't washed in a week from Sorya Mall will go with you for $5. That's about it. Disgusting pigs with 3 kids in the bars wanting $50 is a real turn off, especially when you just spent a month divided between Angeles City and Pattaya banging 18-21 year olds for a lot less. I was also more than a bit put off by the fact that half of the guys I saw in the bars and freelance places looked worse than the crackhead hookers. It really looks to me like a city where Western people go to die.

About the streets: the only place worse for walking that I've seen anywhere in the world was HCMC. I've been to something like 85 countries. I really do like to walk, I do it everywhere. It's just totally uncomfortable in PP, like much else. I mean, a city of 2. 5 million people without even a bus system tells you a lot.

When compared to what else is available in the world, it's just an absolutely dreadful place. I feel deeply sorry for anyone who thinks this is something good. It's like the old Koreans who sleep on the floor their whole lives and think it's the best. You know if they just slept in a bed they'd love it and see what shit sleeping on the ground was.

So sorry to hear about all this negativeness of your stay here. Its my third visit but truly only the second for mongering and actually I prefer it to vietnam which I abandoned this trip to come back here. You should have taken up the offer of Aussieguy100 for advice as he is not only a very nice gentleman but also very knowledgeable and helpful about the scene here, willing to share gladly.

But I am feeling that you have just rejected Cambodia all together, throwing away the baby with the water. Too bad. If I may, either seek help and open up or just leave and never come back. However, what I can tell you is that should you choose the first option, it should be quite rewarding.

I guess you must not be used to walking a lot in busy asian cities. I do a lot of walking especially here as its as flat as a pancake here, from street 184 down to 240, back to 108 and back again to 174. And never had a problem. Of course you have to be extra careful, but it can be done. Actually, I had more risks of being hit by cars in europe crossing the streets than here with all the motorbikes and cars.

As for sleeping well. Why don't you try the bluetongue cafe and hotel on street 174 right next to the Walkabout? In that street and just a bit further there are other nice hotels too and very quiet. Turn around on street 63 and you will find yet other nice hotels as well. But you need to walk hahahaha. Let me know if you want the names and streets numbers.

It is quite normal all over asia that girls ask for ridiculous amounts in the first place. It does not mean that its what they will not not accept less. Negotiation is part of the life and always expected, if not wanted actually. In some countries you will in fact not be respected if you don't bargain.

Having said that, and to try to help with my modest knowledge of this country still new to me, you should try Panda massage at the corner of streets 240 and 55 I believe. I had FS there for 25 bucks the first day I arrived thanks to info found here. I think. Sorry but I had just arrived and was horny as hell hehehe. You can refuse the first girl they send you and ask for another one that is what I did when they sent a fat cow.) , just like anywhere in south east asia, until you get someone you like, if they have enough girls of course. The manager there is vietnamese but she does not have any viet girls, all Cambodian.

You should probably try the Paris hotel massage as well as a massage place just off street 63 on street 252 at number 28R, called 252 massage karaoke, its right next to a big signed karaoke. Viet girls have red tag and Cambodians have bue tags (or maybe the other way round. You'll see anyways). I have not tried it, yet, just walked up to have a look. They had at least 30 girls in the fishbowl.

Hope you will enjoy Phnom penh a bit more. If not, Ho Chi Minh is only at 6 hours bus ride and 10 to 13 USD for that.

Why does the discussion go on? The bargirl scenario was invented to cater to the Western market where the guy liked to think he was not just having anonymous sex even though he was and thought that he could check out the girl in the bar even though her attitude in the bar could change once they got to his hotel.

THat said, whenever I get the chance to break out in a city where I don't work and there is no connection that would rat me out, the I happily pick up a freelancer who looks promising I go for it. You can retain anonanymity by getting the phone number of your favourite bargirl, and phoning her to arrange to come and see you, either in your hotel or in a short time hotel during the day, before she goes to work in her bar. That way you avoid the bar scene and save on the barfine, as well as getting a known quantity in terms of the quality of the sex.
