After having travelled to the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam numerous times, I finally decided to give Cambodia a try. Had it not been for Angkor what, I would not have made the trip due to higher P4 P costs here compared to Thailand.

I'm glad I made the trip.

My first stop was in Phnom Phen for two nights. It was a short flight from Bangkok and there are some very nice hotel bargains in PP.

The forum spoke highly of Cyrcee so I decided to give this a shot. My first stop that night was to NagaWorld to walk around the casino. There was a nice hostess bar next door, named Darlin Darlin Music Bar. There were some very beautiful ladies standing side-by-side at the bar awaiting an invitation to come to your table to drink. It was weird, in that the place was full of foreign men sitting at their tables in groups of 2 and 3 with no ladies sitting and drinking with them. This was a dead giveaway that not only were the lady drink prices high, but there was probably a related fee for their time. I flirted with one for about 15 minutes then finally invited her over. Man, what a rip off. The ladies were asking $200 usd for all night. Not sure what the bar fine was on top of that. Her drink was $12 usd and she tried to game me by saying that because she sat with me and I didn't take her, that her boss was going to charge her $50 usd. I almost spit my drink out. That was hilarious. I told her to bring her manager over here and I would take care of the issue. Needless to say, I didn't pay that and neither did she request him to come over. I got her number to connect with her the next night. I never called her. Later that evening I found my fun street.

From Darlin Darlin I took a tuktuk to Cyrcee. However, on the way the driver went down Street 136. It had hostess bar after hostess bar with large groups of ladies yelling for men to come in for a drink. I was thinking, "my kind of street". Then he took a few turns and was going down a dark street on the way to Cyrcee. I told him to take me back to Street 136 as I wasn't sure if I were about to be taken to a dark alley and rolled for my cash. He turned around and dropped me off at a bar named 'The Lady Bar'. I remember reading that they want you to choose one (to come inside and drink with you) so I picked a young stunner. We had two drinks. Then I paid her $15 bar fine and agreed to $100 usd for all night 9 pm to 10 am. I knew the prices were high, but she was a stunner. We woke up around 8 am and went for breakfast. Came back and got my last smash in. It was a great time. Their mileage is very low, so this was a new, exciting and addicting experience for me.

The next night I went back to Street 136 and picked another bar who had a mature lady sitting outside. She agreed to the same deal as the night before. It was 7 pm. She had a kid at home so I agreed she could leave at 6 am.

Never made it to Cyrcee. Phnom Penh is expensive compared to Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam, but it was fun. The population there is around 2. 5 to 3 million. The women aren't as experienced (lower mileage) and have a different look than neighboring countries. It was a fun experience. These notes are more for me if / when I return.

Riverside:

- While it is possible to find partner there at anytime, people (40% girls, 60% ladyboys) will only approach you in the evening (from 9 pm until 4 am).

- At night the riverside is said to be dangerous (see below) and it is. But I still ventured at 2 am everyday.

Problems faced:

1. $5 massage shop, convinced me to come in for $10 massage + sex (stupid me). I enter the room, hanged my trouser on the hook next to the wall. The wall actually has a whole used to go inside my trouser to steal the money. The whole cannot be seen because it is hidden by a curtain. Ingenious really. Damage: $80.

2. Riverside: I chatted with a girl while waiting for my girl (which I had planned to meet). After my girl arrived, the girl I was chatting with got really upset, started to follow us, gathered more people who ultimately surrounded the tuktuk we were trying to run away with, asking money to let us leave. Negotiated down from $100 to $40, and insisted on a group hug afterwards. I did not dare to go out the next night. That was at 2 am.

I would say these type of thing can happen, but not more than that. It's obviously not pleasant, and stressful (my girl was actually crying of stress afterwards) but it not life life threatening.

Recommendation: Never carry more than $40 with you.

3. People approach you asking if you want "young lady". Obviously a scam to suck you thousands threatening to call police and NGO if you fall into it. Luckily not my thing. Don't even talk to them, they can use the conversation to threaten you also. Just run away.

Those Chinese are ruining markets by overpaying for everything. They are the favorite customer: small dick not painful and pays generously. Not there are no Chinese there due to China covid situation. So white is next best thing.

So I am back in Phnom Penh, eight years since my last visit. I had some good times here in the 2011-2014 period. Last night when I had a look at the hostess bars, I remembered why I stopped coming here: the skyrocketing prices starting in 2014. Yesterday I was quoted 80 dollars (for st, although it seemed to be the same for lt). Is this the common price now? Can it be lowered by haggling? Without appearing as a fool, I mean. 80 usd (+15 for the barfine) is a lot compared to other similar options in Cambodia (see below) and in other Asian countries (esp Phils, Thai). I will check out Cyrcee bar today, they have another style there. I have had good times there before. Another place I liked was Yang Mey massage at street 252 #28. Probably gone after such a long time, but are there similar places today?

1. How do you find freelancers? I understand that there are freelancers in the lobby of NagaWorld2, so looks like I'm going to have to be there for a week, but apart from them. Zalo and line had closed their nearby services in Vietnam. I think same might be the case with Phnom Penh.

Freelancer options are significantly fewer than just a few years ago. Legacy freelancer joints like Martini and Walkabout are long gone. I reached out to a group of guys who live in PP or visit often. Their assessment is the same as mine. Not a lot of choice. You have the upscale Nagaworld chicks, you can find them at Pontoon, and you have the streetwalkers around what Phnom and along the riverside. Unless you are comfortable with druggies, potential thieves, and assorted issues, I'd stay clear of the streetwalkers. Though beer gardens around the city also offer potential (and known to a Khmer professional sort and friend), it should be noted that if you don't speak Khmer (or your target doesn't speak English), you'd be wasting your time. I'm unsure if Pontoon is even open at this moment. Conflicting reports and YouTube videos could have been edited or posted months or years ago and reposted recently. If I were you, I'd settle for the hostess bars. You won't save any money, but you might save yourself unnecessary grief.

I just love that place! I've met some sweet girls there and I always had a great time. One becomes a mongering hero there, as girls swarm over you and each one of them pleads for her case. Sorry. How did I forget my time at Cyrcee! YES. Still open, operating and still the best place for guaranteed 100% no bullshit action. Besides the compulsory lady drink. Like normal, entered, swarmed by 5 girls. Told to pick one, did, was then left alone. Funny thing was going on with the other girls though, they were getting beers from outside and sneaking them pass the prying eyes of the French owner and drinking them in lieu of a slow night BUT the cans they were buying were unrefrigerated, and obviously boss man doesn't allow them to drink outside drinks and use the house ice, so my girl kept asking for her last drink to be topped up with ice and then he other girls would sneak across, grab the ice out of her glass, and then use that for their warm beers!!

I took a hottie, as she said the boss knew me I was able to use the in house upstairs rooms. Think the price was $50 for the girl and $12 for the room-the girl I took said this very young thin looking spinner was her niece and I should take her too.hmmmm. I'll leave that treat for 2023!!

As for Darling Darling. Not in my rotation, the Mrs allows me to take off to girly bars knowing I like a drink and to causally play and flirt with girls (and as much as I believe that's all I think she thinks I do) BUT Darling Darling would likely be a step too far in the obvious "I'm a sleazin around bad bad hubby" LOL.

...Firstly, Phnom Penh, the girly bar scene is certainly alive and kicking. Looks like there has been some bar closures and some renamed etc (sadly Mr Butterfly Bar is no longer. Kinda missed the $20 blow and go services there from years past) - but all in all things are pretty much the same. And that means that some bars can be very hit and miss, the talent to me seems similar to before, a couple of decent hotties in most bars mixed with some older long time workers, fresh from the Provence girls with little English, buy me drink princesses. The entire gamut of options.

...Also Riverside freelancers where aplenty once the sun went down. Pick yourself a park bench, turn your back to the street and face the river and your will have numerous girls (and again lady boys) trying to grab your eye, give you a little wave, or unashamedly just come up and sit next to you and start the negotiations, it's ain't too subtle but each party knows what we are there for! For me this was the cheapest and nastiest experiences with $20 easily accepted, plus the $8- $10 guest house fee dependant upon where they suggested!

So like everyone-after 2 plus years of being locked up, finally got to release the shackles and spend 4 weeks back in Cambodia covering mid September until mid October.

I am a long time and experienced traveller to Cambodia, now pushing 15 years since first time here and this would be trip number 20 something. Time was spent approx 2 weeks in Phnom Penh and somewhere between a week and 2 weeks travelling to other parts of the county to catch up wit family and friends. Other parts mainly being Kampot and Battambang!

Personals circumstances dictate that my best time to get away for some fun play time is early afternoon to evening, however interspread were certainly some night time fun as well.

Firstly, Phnom Penh, the girly bar scene is certainly alive and kicking. Looks like there has been some bar closures and some renamed etc (sadly Mr Butterfly Bar is no longer. Kinda missed the $20 blow and go services there from years past) - but all in all things are pretty much the same. And that means that some bars can be very hit and miss, the talent to me seems similar to before, a couple of decent hotties in most bars mixed with some older long time workers, fresh from the Provence girls with little English, buy me drink princesses. The entire gamut of options.

Now to list which bars where better etc- I always find can be of not much value as things change frequently- girls come and go etc. So I had some fun and took a nice late 20's hottie from Step Wife Bar on 136 one night. Individual prices / bar fines etc have become a blur to me, so from a bar fines perspective the going rate seems to be approx $10 - $15. Lady drinks seem to in the range of $3. 50 $5. 00 dependant upon the bar. I don't go in too Cheap Charlie and be thrifty on the lady drinks, nor do I get sucked into 4 girls hovering around the table all wanting a drink when I have set my laser focus on the one I want to nail that night. So for first time travellers or inexperienced Phnom Penh mongers I know you can easily fall into the trap of buying numerous girls in the same bar at your table numerous drinks, and this can cause your bill to be far larger than you would have expected come the end of your drinking session. So that's just a word of warning to the uninitiated!

Given I have above average Khmer language skills I tend to have fun times and good conversations with the girls in the bars and also I think the language helps me in negotiations as well. Again- this is not a hard and fast rule, just my personal approach is I tend to pay between $30 - $50 for short time. Some will say that's too little, others will argue too much, whatever, it's where I set my own monger budget and it works for me.

So I played mainly in streets 136,130 and 118- wandered but didn't shop in streets 5 or 110 as I have on previous trips. Found a nice very playful girl via WeChat who works at HeartBreak bar on 118 who I booked a couple of times, once during the day before her shift began- fun times.

Whilst I stated most bars are a blur and pretty similar in my eyes, Tokyo Bar on 118 , a big fancy double fronted bar with lots of hot girls out the front is a dud. It's just bland and sterile. I have a feeling it's set up for Asian travellers who are happy to throw many hundreds or dollars around per night. Honourable mentions for places I had fun go to Pussycat Bar on 136 and Island Bar on 118.

From a freelancer perspective, as mentioned, I use WeChat as an app to hunt, with mixed results. Seemed to be a higher number of lady boys this time round if that's your thing, but I did find a nice young thing who worked at a massage shop and obviously uses WeChat to drum up some alternate solo business on the side. I paid $30 short time, meeting at dodgy St 136 guest houses!

So other areas- Kampot I was with the wife and family / friends a lot, so no time to play. We did do some girly bar hopping and whilst I wouldn't say from what I saw the talent was exceptional, many bars have sprung up since I was last in Kampot in early 2020. Speaking to a girl we know who owns / manages a bar, like herself, she has said many of the bars are consequence of bar owners leaving Sihanoukville and setting up in Kampot. Don't hold me to the accuracy of the numbers but I would say they are probably 20 odd girly bars now in Kampot spread across the river front and back along the old market buildings immediately as you walk off the river front. So I can't vouch for prices or quality of services BUT I can assure you there is now a mini scene in Kampot!

As for Battambang. WeChat came to the rescue with a very tight young bodied hottie. She started asking $100, she ended up receiving $50 , and a decent pounding!!

And also in Battambang, approx 10 pm one night with our driver, stumbled across so good freelance action on street 127 , which is like a one way little promenade with gardens in the middle-girls sitting on park benches dressed in obvious "come pay to fuck me" clothes. So took a decent looker from there and was happy to pay $30 for a nice session (plus guesthouse room fee).

So all in all a damn good trip. Was so good to finally get back and play in Cambodia after more than 2. 5 years. Generally travel back every 6-9 months so it was a long time between drinks (and bar girl pussy LOL).

Plans to return likely in March 2023 - so I will keep my eyes peeled to the Phnom Penh Forum for latest on the ground reports. Happy to answer any questions people may have as well.

Cheers to both Red Rider and Paolo99. Sounds like there have been a bunch of places in PP and BKK finishing up their post covid touch ups in time for December travelers. I'll try out a few guest friendlies to see which ones work for me, but I'll also check out the TAO. Sounds like your ST was a nice meal. Hope I can find similar dining options. I'll jot some thoughts down in January after my new year's rampage (if I survive). Gearing up for it!

TAO has been recently updated and is very nice. I couldn't have been happier. The only nit is that it is one of those places that the air conditioning and lights go out when you leave. Otherwise, I would highly recommend it.

Any savvy traveler knows to leave all but one of their credit cards, extra cash and passport in their safe when they are out. I was out every night and didn't worry, nor see anything out of the ordinary.

The $65.50 was for 1 girl ST. She was not a clock watcher (she came twice with DATY, so maybe she was distracted).

As you leave the bar to head to the hotel, other girls will offer to come along and join in, so that option is there.

- It sounds like TAO residence is uber convenient for bringing girls back. How are you finding TAO residence for overall stay and value, together with your night activities

I stayed there one night a few years ago (pre-covid) and found it not worth the 60 dollars per night, that's why I stayed just a day.

The room in itself was good and big. But I didn't have the riverside view, mine was on the first floor and directed on the street.

The street was not considered to be safe at night (at least from the night clerk's view), so he was closing the entrance doors at night.

It's very annoying when you come back late at night and have to knock on the door to wake him up, especially when you're accompanied by a prostitute.

Others on this forum said they were satisfied by the place but I found it way overpriced.
