Just finishing up four nights here. This place is great. The bars are full of pretty girls and they are ridiculously friendly. I never made it off of St 104. On my first night I took a stunning petite girl (who I should have stuck with, but I was distracted by all the pretty girls.) I was also buying drinks for her pompooy friend and feeling both of them up. Shanghai is one of those bars that expats don't take girls from as a general rule. The food has always been good and the BBQ used to be an event so it was a "Safe place" that you could take you wife or GF to and not have lots of stories told about you in fact the opposite they could only say he comes in here with his friends to eat never even buys us a lady drink.

Firstly their wifi was excellent, in that bar. And yes girls available for take out.

Twice I partook at about 10pm, but had them back in their bar by 1am as both times I had something sweeter waiting for one, including once a bargirl from the Shanghai bar.

Years ago almost every girl would stay over night and often the problem was getting her to leave in the morning. I think that was partly due to the number of bars available and those that did exist were usually closed early so there was little reason for the girl to leave also your accommodation was much more comfortable than hers. I am talking about he day when Sisowath Quay would be deserted by 10pm and the only place to go after midnight was Martini in its original location, happy days. OK there wasn't so much choice but at he same time there was no hard sell much more enjoyable than today.

My experience is that you just take a girl st and if it works out you repeat and soon she call herself your girlfriend and the 15-20$ are now the daily ransom and you can call her anytime but of course get service but you have to buy her a plate of rice sometime or a drink too.

That's sort of my point. You can negotiate all you want, set all the terms and conditions and prices, and then often, especially in Cambodia, the girl doesn't deliver. Yes it's bad and wrong and unprofessional of her, but that's the reality. Ultimately these encounters come down to how you get along with each other, and there's no point in trying to force that contractually.

Yes of course you're right about that, that it's become unrealistic to agree to LT and expect that LT actually is going to happen. It wasn't that way before*, but somehow has drifted into becoming the reality. Still, I don't' think we should necessarily go down without a fight. Or to just accept it happily. I think it's fair for us to still be annoyed by this. And I don't think the battle is permanently lost on this, there still is a chance that things revert to LT still being something that doesn't just equate to "I'm dumb and willing to pay double for ST";.)

* LT used to mean at least 2 shots but probably as many as you wanted, and at least til morning but sometimes for much of the next day, and the whole 'tummy hurts' thing would be absolutely unthinkable

The hostess bar is Black Cat, but not open 24 hrs, that is Walkabout, but that is an FL bar only and no live music.

This sort of thing never happened to me in Cambodia before 2009. I remember all my Khmer girls back then saying "up to you" and I would keep them for as long as I liked and usually shag them 3 or 4 times before I let them go. It was great. The price in 2009 was $20 and it was much less in 2005 and earlier. Most Khmer girls are still very sweet, but times have definitely changed. Today, I think it is best to take a girl you don't know ST your first night with her and see what develops. I wouldn't even mention LT. Just assume it is going to be ST. Why make the commitment? You may not want to keep her. But, if all goes really well, the girl may want to stay on her own accord and you will know you have a good one, or the two of you can easily come to a new arrangement to make it an all nighter - another win win, or you can just make a date for another time. It's all good. If it did not go that well, you are probably much better off calling it a night or going back out and looking for another girl to do ST again. There are a ton of girls waiting for just you in the bars.

I am going to be back in Phnom in March. I am really looking forward to seeing the girls again.

The problem isn't newbies or wrong-headed customers, it's girls who lie in order to close the deal. It's bait and switch in a way. A deal is a deal.

This happens a lot, nothing to do with newbies etc. The girls eyes light up with the LT money but come up with excuses after the first shot. Another thing could be 'lost in translation'. The girl may be thinking something else and the guy something else. Best to discuss politely before hand. I had a Vietnamese girl tell me what she does and doesn't do in the bar without me asking so that there is no confusion in the room. We agreed and had a great sex session, the best I had in Cam. Just have fun. The way I look at it is that, with ST, it is not a lot of money even if the girl is a starfish! Go find another one.
