Just read on a Khmer expat forum that apparently the infamous Sophie's bar has re-opened.

Same location as before, it's had a bit of a makeover upstairs.

Can any PP residents confirm this rumour?

On a short holiday and a few months back I posted a question on here about taking two Khmer girls out for a threesome, always targeted Le Cycree as the sure fire place that I could get lucky! its more than a tourist effect. its also cultural and national pride. living in thailand and having mongered in pp for 15 years, i am well aware.

of the animosity and jealousy between cambodian and thai women. i have a thai wife who refuses to go to cambodia for a holiday. my advice to mongerers seeking the going rate for st / lt in pp is to never, ever mention that you live in, or have just come from holidaying in thailand. cambodians are just as proud as the thais, and the working girls of pp know exactly how much punters are paying in bkk, pattaya etc. guaranteed you tell a cambodian girl you have just come from thailand,

its the thai price or more you will pay. in their asian way of thinking, to accept less money than the thai girls is to admit that they are a lesser race than the thais. something they will never do. to this day, unless there are girls that know me in the bars / clubs, i still play the dumb newbie and get treated like one (lets face it, the girls pay alot more attention to newbies than regular punters) , with the knowledge and experience behind me to know when they are trying to rip me off.

i can vouch for your vientiane comment, well at least in regards to freelancers. the karaoke rate is higher because of the customers that go to those types of places. if you got to bor pen yang or any of the 2 or 3 popular night clubs you can easily grab a girl for 100, 000-250, 000kip with about 140, 000 kip being what i generally paid the girls i really liked on my last trip. on my first trip i got pretty much raped because many of the girls do try to charge prices close to their thai neighbors because of the number of guys on visa runs, in fact it is not out of the ordinary for many of the women to tell you a price in baht.

i don't recall anyone in cambodia every mentioning a thai price to me but it does seem possible that they would know the prices in thailand. i say this because for whatever reason many men seem to think it is okay to tell the women what they pay for sex in different countries. i once saw a guy tell a khmer girl that he was glad he came to cambodia because he was going broke paying thai chicks 1500 baht for st. anzac's statement about the animosity / inferiority complex is also true. tell a cambodian chick she looks chinese and she will probably love you for life. tell the wrong thai chick she looks cambodian and she might try to fight you over it.

To blow some more holes in the horse shit, many Cambodian people view Thai people in a positive light, and though anti-Cambodian prejudice definitely exists in Thailand it's nothing like, say, the racism against Haitians in the Dominican Republic or Central Americans in America. I have plenty of Thai friends who have nothing bad to say about Cambodians at all (more than once I've heard "they have big breasts!").
