    Sugar Shack?

Has anyone ever been to the Sugar Shack bar? Also what kind of bar is it and are all the girls available for take out? Their website looks appealing.

    Thanks --

-- for all the nice words about my earlier report. I wish it had been more positive, but I thought it was more important to be honest than to be entertaining.

I never actually took anyone out of Golden Vine, so can't help with the prices there. And, of course, the bar near GV and VooDoo is called Zapata. Thanks for the prod. I think I'm short-circuiting lately.

By the way, I want to say that Casa (mentioned earlier) is a nightmare -- too loud, too dark, too unfriendly, too jittery. It eats it. And I have always found the disco in what used to be the Holiday International (now renamed the Oasis) to be full of girls who are really interested only in heavyweight Khmers or well-heeled Chinese, especially since the hotel is (or was) owned by Singaporean Chinese, who also accounted for most of their guests.

I have to say that the best-looking Viet girls I've seen this trip are at Moscow, and they cost plenty: $75 to $100. At that price I haven't bitten, but it's not because my mouth wasn't hanging open. There are some real stunners there.

On the other hand, I left out one piece of good news. The season is finally coming to an end. Thus, due to the classic capitalistic economic model, PP is shifting from a seller's market to a buyer's market. Many of the best-looking girls at Martini are spending most of the evening sitting on the wall.

Bad bargaining position for them, good bargaining position for us.

On Sunday I'm going to the Dongguan-ChangPing area of China for a couple of weeks (or more) before coming back here. Will do some sort of report after I've sorted out my impressions.

Posting a link to a Report of Distinction is easy.

    1. First identify a noteworthy report that has not yet been added to the Reports of Distinction thread.
    2. Note the report's number (see below).
    3. Go to the Reports of Distinction thread for the applicable area.
    4. Select "Add a Report" just as if you were adding a report in any other thread.
    5. Enter a short, one sentence summary of the report.
    6. Add a link to the report as described below.

Please do not re-post a copy of the entire report.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To post a link at a Report of Distinction:

Click the QUOTE button in the report, which will open a "Submit Report" window.
Look in the Address Bar at the top of your Internet Explorer window and view the link, which will look like this:

Identify the post ID number, which is the last 6 digits of the link.
Write down the post ID number or copy it to your clip board.
Go to the Reports of Distinction thread and select the button to add a new report.
Write one sentence describing the report's subject.
Add a link to the report by using the POST tags like this: [post]Post Number Here[/post]

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As an alternative, you may identify the Post ID number as follows:
Move your mouse pointer over the QUOTE link in the report.
Look in the Status Bar at the bottom of your Internet Explorer window and view the link, which will look like this:

    http://www.internationalsexguide.inf...tpost&p=123456

Identify the post ID number, which is the last 6 digits of the link.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please do not copy the link the wrong way, as follows:

Please DO NOT simply copy and past the link that is displayed while you are viewing the report in the thread. This link will look link something like this:

    http://www.internationalsexguide.inf...&page=19&pp=20

This link only refers to the thread number and the page number within the thread. It does NOT reffer to the actual report, and thus it will not be accurate in the event that other reports are deleted from the thread or if the thread is split.

Other option is getting a room short time. just ask the hotel guy how much for 1-2 hrs. they'll give you a reduced rate (around 50%) prob 3-7 bucks depending on the place.

    Free sex

Comments on RisingSons great report: The bar with the Mexican name you don't recall is the Zapata bar. The owners here also own the Zanzibar in st 104, the girls in this bar and the Rose Bar in the same street, go into The Pickled Parrot after work. The Pickled Parrot is a 24 hour bar. Some of these girls are looking for a place to sleep of a night, so if your offering your bed untill the morning. Here's your chance, some will have sex with you, some will not.

I'm afraid the report is pretty accurate and I saw the same trend.

I've been to PP many times from 2001-2004, then in 2005 only once and since then never again. And I don't see any reason to visit PP nowadays.
But for first-timer it's an interesting place, no doubt.

    Cheers!

    Hey RS,

Spending 4 weeks in PP, damn do I envy you. Nice report.

Last I heard, you were in the hospital recovering and after getting kicked out of hospital I thought you were heading for Chinese food (oops-I mean pussy)--ha ha.

Glad you made it to PP.

    Cheers

No, ROD don't need to be approved or recommended by the author or by ISG management. Simply follow the directions for posting on the ROD thread. If a post is worthy then it should be in the ROD for easy reference but take notice that many have been flamed in the past for posting ROD that were unworthy. So always make sure it is informative and will be useful for your fellow mongers.

BTW: I also read Rising Son's post and was about to post it in the ROD but AZN already beat me to it.

    Cheers,

    Re: PP Update

    Hi Rising Son,

That is a really great report that is packed with information and is a good read. I agree with everything you say and would add that, apparrently, the Viets who did not have 'work permits' were kicked out of Phnom Penh and this explains the smaller numbers than previously.

I found that the Golden Vine prices were much higher than other bars, and wouldn't say that I was the ugliest, fattest and fattest person to visit Phnom Penh. Are you able to say what price you negotiated here?

Your post is as worthy as any to be posted as a Report of Distinction, does it need to be recommended by the editor?

RS, thanks for the great report. I'll be in SR & PP in April. I'm a regular monger around Asia but my first visit to Cambodia.

Your post kind of solidified some of my choices after reading this forum for the past few months. As I can't take girls back to my room, my plans were: Sophies, Cyrcee & Mikado. Based on your post, looks like these are a good match for my tastes. I'll move Mikado to the top of the list. I gotta go to Sophies (I got this vision of this place with guys getting sucked off at the bar. Gotta see it for myself). Then if I've got steam left I'll head to Cyrcee.

Thanks again for taking the time to post.

    I'll give a F and SR once I'm back.

    RS,

Excellent report man. Great info. I'm headed back in a few months so the update is really helpful. Price hikes suck though. PP has gotten alot of international attention recently.

Great report, but a little discouraging, as I'm off to PP in 2 weeks for the first time. Is there a chance you just happen to hit at a bad time?

Here are the three most important things I've noticed.

    Fewer girls.

    Somewhat less attractive girls.

    Higher prices.

    PP Update

Well, after four weeks in Phnom Penh, I'm finally filing a report.

It's taken me this long because I was searching for good news, but there's not much to be had. The sad fact is that the town is in a long, slow decline on the International Boom-Boom Scale and there are few signs that things are turning around.

Here are the three most important things I've noticed.

    Fewer girls.

    Somewhat less attractive girls.

    Higher prices.

Before I go any further with this, I should probably say that I've been spending substantial amounts of time here – anywhere from 2 to 6 months a year – since 1997, which puts me in a relatively small group of people. So I actually do have a frame of reference. I knew the place when it was at its best, and I know it now.

    And it ain't the same.

That doesn't mean that someone who's never been here, or has been here only a couple of times in the past two or three years, shouldn't come. There's more than enough available material, and it's still a bargain compared to other, um, shopping districts in Asia. You can still have a good time here.

Before we move on to some of the action spots, let me take a minute to compare the two varieties of companionship available here: Viets and Khmers.

Generally speaking, the Viets are more adventurous and more commercial. The Khmers take a narrower view of things. They tend to believe, for example, that the mouth is to be used for eating and talking. It's relatively rare to have a Khmer girl spend any time doing the Hoover on your little brother. On the other hand, the Khmers tend to be sweeter and cuddlier.

So if you want proficient, adventurous, and professional, go Viet. If you want a GFE (with a GF who doesn't do all that much) go Khmer. There are exceptions, of course. As Mark Twain said, no generalization is worth a damn, including this one.

Nevertheless, give me a Viet, every time.

And that's one of the problems. In the old days, the infamous Svay Pak served as a sort of farm team, the minor leagues in which Viet freelancers learned their skills. Now that it's gone, the continuous flow of new Viet talent has narrowed to a trickle. There are a few new faces, but only a few.

And several ladies of my acquaintance have told me that there are new problems for Viets trying to enter Cambodia. This has happened before, but it seems to be more of an issue now. A few girls coming back from their Viet New Year trip home had to try several times before getting back in.

    Okay. The venues.

Martini is still the mother load if what you want is an evening doing the horizontal bop that doesn't require you to take out a second mortgage. There are still some beautiful girls here, about 60% Khmer and 40% Viet. (If you want to find out who's who, talk to a girl, find out which camp she belongs to, and then look to see who she hangs with. Generally speaking, there's not much international fraternization.) Set the price up front, get it clear which specialties you expect, and how long you want her to stay. These rules apply for everyplace on this list. If you think the price is too high, bargain. She'll either walk away or agree. But get it straight in advance/

Sharky is (I think) a pretty dreadful bar, but that's mostly because the guys who own it are really, really fond of 1980s big-hair metal and AC-DC. The music seems to start out reasonably acceptably and then get louder and worse as the evening wears (and I do mean wears) on. Still, the food here is pretty good – best Tex-Mex in PP – and there are some honeys in attendance. I'd say the mix is 65% Khmer and 35% Viet. More tattoos in evidence here than in Martini, along with whatever that implies.

Walkabout remains in business solely, I'm convinced, because it's open 24/7 and there are always girls there, although sometimes it should be written “girls” because many of them are well into their fourth decade. (For those of you who are counting, that's the thirties.) One other appealing thing about Walkabout is that there are short-time rooms upstairs. On the less appealing end of things, the quality of the talent is generally lower than at Martini or Sharky, and they wash the tables approximately once a year, whether they need it or not. The damp “cleaning towels” at Walkabout are among the world's most fearsome objects. One note – there's generally a slump in the number of females present from about 4:30 PM until about 6:30 as the ladies go to make up and dress up for the evening.

Sophie remains Sophie. It still offers suck-the-knob contests at the bar and a couple of really awful rooms in the back. There's nowhere else like it, which may or may not be a bad thing. Most of the talent has been there an awfully long time. 100% Khmer, but all bets are off, since Sophie's girs are famous for being willing to do anything. Anything at all.

Le Cyrcee has gotten some bad-mouthing lately because of rises in the room and service rates, but don't miss it. The girls have gotten well beyond the friendly stage, and there are now some Viets available – maybe 4 or 5 out of about 30. Once again, though, unless you simply have a genetic preference for Viets, it doesn't matter here – these girls are up for pretty much anything you can think of.

Mikado gets my vote as most improved bar. Last time I was in there (last night) there were 30-some Khmer girls hanging around doing nothing. One of the wonderful things about Mikado is that the young ladies are apparently prohibited from wearing panties and are not shy about demonstrating the fact. Take a seat at the bar, do a survey of what's available, and then take her (or them) and adjourn to one of the little booths along the wall opposite the bar while you check out your mutual chemistry and the absence of her underwear. Then take her upstairs to the best short-time rooms in PP – cleaned between sessions, with sparkly lights and mirrors literally everywhere, including on the ceiling. Of course, if it turns out your choice has had three or four children, you'll get multiple-camera coverage of her stretch marks, but nothing is perfect. Standard of service is very high.

DV8 has some of the friendliest girls in town – not always the most attractive, but really sweet. And it would seem (ssshhhhhh) that rooms are once again available on the premises for those of you who may have a sweetie asleep at home.

Other bars: Golden Vine says it has girls dancing (clothed) on the bar, but every time I go in it just ended for the evening. Girls are okay, nothing to make you make a deposit in the memory bank, but not all of them are available. Same is true of the bar next door with a Mexican name I can't remember at the moment – bar dancing that always seems to have just ended, and a yes/no situation with take-out. On the same little block is Voodoo, which is same-same except it doesn't claim to have girls dancing on the bar. Some pretty girls in here. Happy Man Bar is a relative newcomer. Lots of girls, generally in the 5-7 area, mostly available for further exploration elsewhere.

This could go on forever. In fact, it already has. On the brothel front, 63rd Street remains (mostly) closed, and foreigners are not made to feel welcome in the places that are still in business. Toul Kork is dirty and dangerous. There are some beautiful girls here, but there's always a chance that you'll just get one glance as the mama-san slams the metal doors shut in your face. Svay Pak is a ghost town, with some rumored action off the main street, but I think you'd have to be crazy to go there.

So my tips: find half a dozen girls you like, get their phone numbers, and then work to make your phone book ever thicker. Treat the girls nicely, and word will get around: you'll get attention from some of the better-looking talent in the venue of your choice.

You can still have a great time here. It's just more difficult.

    RS

    Missed a good bar

At the time of your visit to 104 street OneZeroFour had about 26 girls in the bar, now it's down to about 17 but the number fluctuates.

Most go out, except for the manager and cashier and one other girl.

The bar has been gaining a lot of popularity over the last fews months and now is as busy as Zanzibar. Over the last month or so Zanzibar seems to have lost most of their better girls, including the 3 I liked.
