Been coming to Cambodia for 11 years, approx 18 trips in that time and never has the prices I've been exposed to since 2007 even been within 75% of this $3 stunner rate??

Absolute garbage OR are we referring to late 80's / early 90's??

If so, what if any purpose does talking about prices 25+ years ago serve, assuming that they even once existed!

Reasoning that most Phnom Penh punters are familiar with Bangkok (as this writer is) I would be interested to hear some comments about how the bar scene in Phnom Penh differs from Bangkok?

The kind of comparison I am referring to is street 136 v Nana Plaza / Soi Cowboy or Pontoon v Insanity. I should add that I have been to Bangkok several times but have never set foot in Phnom Penh.

You could indeed screw stunners in the past for $3. However saying a few years ago is being disingenuous. 20 years, yeah. These days 30 bucks for a ST from one of the girlie bars is pretty good. You did well if you are a visitor to the city. Now about these gogo bars. The only gogo I ever heard of was tried around 8-9 years back and was closed by the cops almost as soon as it opened. Where are these gogos? To me a gogo is what you find on Walking Street in Pattaya.

Darlin or not it s still PP so this price is ridiculous considering we are talking about f. G Cambodia and yes a few years ago stunners could be found in PP for a few bucks believe it or not.

As promised an update on PP:

GSM: Indeed completely torn down. Reconstruction is ongoing and from the pictures on the fence it looks like it will be nice. When? Nobody knows. Streets around are sleezy though, with a lot of drug hookers and ladyboys.

Darlin Darlin in the Nagaworld casino. Filled with absolute stunners, but prices are sky high. 150 USD easy, sometimes more for ST. The Chinese are taking it over, and prices rise accordingly, spending their gains from the casino.

104 Street and 136 street: It looks to me as though 104 street has lost its edge a bit. But I could be mistaken. To me it looks like 136 street has taken over with a lot more bars now, some with girls aggressively (but nicely) trying to take guys in but some are more relaxed, although the same rules apply as for taking the girls home. The pool tables are a nice touch as well. After a bit of bargaining I have been offered 30 USD for ST and 70 USD for LT. Nice girls, not the sleezy ones. Be advised that Mrs. Butterfly and Mr. Butterfly and one or two other bars at 136 (same owner) have a lot of ladyboys around.

Mao's (right next to the Night Market) also should be mentioned. Much bigger and more relaxed atmosphere as in the gogo bars, but with the same possibilities. Sort of my favorite, although it depends upon the night how crowded it gets. It closes also sooner, 1 AM I believe. But is it near to the gogo bars (either at 104 or 136) so you can walk over there after Mao's if your looking for something more. Or go directly to Pontoon.

Pontoon: Will try to check out tonight, wanted to go there every night but each time my business was concluded before 2 AM, which is when it gets crowd they say. Will try to hold on tonight until that time.

Anybody who can afford to go to the provinces will go. So PP will be a kind of ghost town.

But it's a very nice ghost town. Most restaurants and bars are still open, the traffic is very light, there are street parties going on, and most importantly almost all the girly bars are still open. Sure there are fewer girls in them, but it's easy to move from bar to bar until you find a girl you like. It's actually one of my favourite times of year in Phnom Penh. Quiet streets but lots of bar action.

Neither can you say had you given a great performer less money that she would have been worse. That is a strawman argument. You could just as well say that a cheap chick will perform well in order to get you as a regular customer or show you that she is worth more.

As a matter of fact, I had a hooker in the Dominican Republic once give me free services (and this is not the only time one has done that) just to show me how good she was. She was confident that if she gave me a sample, I would be back for more. Performance is simply not tied into price when you are talking about hookers. I have had top notch for free and shitty for $60.

Generally everything you say is true and obviously based on many years of mongering in Asia.

And yes of course you have all the power. Money talks. As in the tag line of this website. That was my point. To suggest to all these guys that they take a moment to think about this power and not abuse it. And also suggesting ways of getting a lower price.

I was just offering my personal observations from running bars here in Phnom Penh for five years and living here for seven years. But of course different people will have different experiences and form different views. My main point was to suggest that punters remember that the bar girls are people rather than just meat, and that they will often respond very positively to a nice approach from a customer. I've certainly found that countless times here. But yes there certainly are girls who are basically hopeless or indifferent however much you give them. And some girls who turn out to be unexpected gems. There are always surprises. That’s part of the fun I think.

I never stated having a problem with performance. If you look throughout various threads, guys generally have problems with chicks they are paying too much. I paid the one chick at Tiger 30 plus 12 barfine. I paid another chick that I met close to Pontoon 30, and I paid another chick 20. I did not have a problem with the performance of either chick. And they keep messaging me even though I have no plans to return to Cambodia.

I am back home in Thailand. I met a chick at 7:30 last night. It is now 1 in the afternoon and she is still here. She has not wanted anything to eat and has not even taken any water and has been a total GFE. When she finally decides to leave, I will hand her $30 and more than likely she will ask when she can come back. I could have just as well gone to a gogo bar last night and gotten a chick that would be well over $100 and she would have been gone by now.

Please tell me where you are getting these prices from. This is my second time here. 4 years ago I got a chick for 13 ST (Walkabout) and another chick for 28 LT (Heart of Darkness). This time it is like I am in a different Cambodia. Bar fines are ranging from 10-17. In some places they say barfine is buying x amout of lady drinks. Like one place you have to buy 4 lady drinks at 3.75 each. Then the chicks are wanting 50-70 ST or 100 LT after that.

At 2am last night I was able to talk a chick at Tiger bar on 136 down to 12 BF and 30 ST. Then they kept trying to make me buy 2 drinks before I could bar fine her. I told them no way. They gave in and I took the chick to my room for an hour.

Before that, me and a wingman were at Pontoon. Chicks were talking 100 ST and 150 LT. What has happened to this place?

As a bar owner who has talked to dozens of girls about their feelings towards customers, I have to sigh a little when I see threads like this about how much or little everyone thinks the girls should get!

Imagine YOU have very little money and a customer comes into your office and asks how much for your building services, accounting services, whatever it is your expertise is in.

When you tell them, they suggest a much lower price. You eventually agree on a much reduced fee because you really need the money for your mortgage and children's school clothes.

But you give your customer a very basic service with no frills and a slightly resentful attitude because they just wanted the lowest possible price rather than seeming to appreciate you and your skills. Had they shown some appreciation and offered you slightly more, you would have thrown in all sorts of extras and been a lot happier. So it is with most of the bar girls.

Yes, I knew that going in but her service was way above the normal bar girls. I had bargained another girl from the same bar for $50ST, but she ended up to be a dead fish.

But that's the fun of what we do. Sometimes good sometimes bad, sometimes you over pay, sometimes you luck out.

The range of prices is quite wide depending on how much the girl needs the money, the bar she works in, and how much she likes the customer.

If she quotes a very high price it is her polite way of telling you she doesn't want to go with you. Even if you agree to this high price she's likely to give you a very basic service.

If you stagger into the bar half drunk wearing old clothes and smelling bad, she will adjust her prices up accordingly. Though if you go too far the other way and arrive wearing an expensive watch, jewelery and tell her you are staying in a hotel she knows is very expensive then similarly she will initially quote a high price.

The girls really do place a lot of importance in your personal presentation, whether you buy them just one drink or three, and how you treat them when you are negotiating a price with them (do not negotiate aggressively).

The last week of any month is when you will get cheaper prices. The girls have run out of money and need some to pay for food and make up.

In Phnom Penh hostess bars the ST price that the girls are happy with is from $30-$60 depending on the factors above, long time from $40-80. Yes some girls ask for (and sometimes get) $100 for ST or LT. That's up to you if you think that girl's energy, enthusiasm and beauty is worth it.
