connections between asia and the us can at times still be slow due to the taiwan quake on dec. 26. 8 underwater cables were damaged and are not repaired as yet. they still hope to solve the problem by the end of this months (chinese hope to solve a problem, that sounds like it will take quite some more time. initially they were talking 2 weeks and haven't done much yet).

i got infected with same virus and info stealer and worm/delf.ae

most likely, i got it by loading a dvd movie that a friend downloaded off bitcomet.

over 1,000 infected files in a week. most of my .exe files were infected. good thing, i carried the essential programs with me and could reinstall them.

now i'm going to reformat the whole drive and start from scratch again.

good luck to you and those of you out there, make sure your virus is up to date. i use grisoft.com's free av program. caught the viruses from spreading but they did disabled the programs.

the chinese look at me and say, of course you have a virus. this is china. it's normal. everybody's computer has many infections.

as far as speed yes it has been slower this past while from abroad. i attribute it to the cable breaks. much improved now.

as far as turning on qq again while in china to check speed, etc. no thanks! i've had my fun. time for someone else to toftt.

i had travelled to many part of the world using my qq to communitcate. these countries includes, japan, phillippines, indonesia, india, eastern europe, usa, uk, etc... i had never had problems with speed or not been able to connect to qq.

these last weeks have been maddening to use the qq friendship center or browse the girls qq photo galleries from here. i used to find nice girls there and hope to do so in the future.

as a result of the speed problems on that website i feel frustrated to the point of breaking something. hopefully this issue will be resolved well before summer, when i want to go to china again.

key is, you are abroad. chinese are a bit stingy with buying added bandwidth in these hard times. but for those in china, qq is pretty much the only thing that works.

Syphilis rates 'soaring in China'

Syphilis is most prevalent amongst those in high-risk groups
A new report published in a leading medical journal suggests China is seeing alarming and rising rates of the sexually transmitted disease, syphilis.

The Lancet reports that China - which virtually eliminated syphilis in the 1960s and 70s - is now seeing the disease return with alarming intensity.

It reveals that reported rates have risen from 0.2 cases per 100,000 in 1993 to 5.7 cases per 100,000 in 2005.



Dr Myron Cohen, a co-author of the report, described the spread of the disease as "fantastically rapid".

Spreading HIV

The disease is most prevalent amongst those in particular high-risk groups, like commercial sex workers and men who have sex with men. In those groups, as many as one in ten to one in five has syphilis, according to some of China's top specialists.

If we are seeing syphilis spread, we have to be concerned that other STDs are spreading as well



Syphilis is an aggressive and dangerous disease in itself - but Dr Cohen says its rise also has wider implications, giving a sense of the rapid spread of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) too.

"If we are seeing syphilis spread, we have to be concerned that other STDs are spreading as well," he told the BBC.

"Also we have reason to believe that syphilis helps to drive HIV. So we have to be concerned that untreated syphilis will amplify the spread of HIV as well."

Just found this forum and I must say I am enjoying reading about your exploits and perusing the odd pic or two.

Where I am I don't have very much contact with non chinese people at all. In fact, where I am there ARE no foreigners. I am it. Hahaha. I'm sure you've all experienced the stares etc etc But at least in the main centres the locals have probably seen at least one other foreigner before you. The villagers from round where I am prolly haven't even seen one on TV - IF they have a TV that is :-)

Not only am I a foreigner, I am somewhat gigantic compared to the locals. I am 6 ft 2 and about 280 pounds with size 13 feet. Now I am definately not ugly or completely unattractive but I have to tell you the self confidence has taken a little bit of a knock on account of the open mouthed gawking.

Sheesh, at the supermarket you'd think I was a naked Jackie Chan giving myself a BJ the amount of attention I get. Its all a little freaky as I am used to blending in.

I just want to know what your thoughts are as to what the local WG population might think should I choose to make use of their services. Or even WG's in the main centres...
