When I travel to Beijing, I usually stayed in Shangri-La (the one in the West Side). I look like a Chinese, and able to speak some very limited Mandrian. However, I was not able to catch any street action around the hotel and I was not able to find any Sauna/Massage Place.

So, Shangri-La is pretty bad in terms of mongering but it is a nice hotel as Xiber said.

If anyone has good suggestion around Shangri-La, please do give us a pointer.

The west side of town is not a good location for this type of activities. KTV's may be the best option, Marriot West is close by, go their and try the KTV. The KTV is a bit hard to find so you may need to ask someone in the hotel, but its in the same building. But it may be a bit boring by yourself.

Will be going to Beijing next year in spring and am looking for some action as well. Taking someone to the hotel is not an option!

I like to give back to the forum for all the help I get from it. I can't provide a report on Maggie's or Hollywood since I saw nothing there of interest (but it was during the People's Congress and I was there "early" at around 11pm) but I can give the location for newbies like myself so that you don't have to wade through hundreds of messages:

Maggie's: south end of Ritan Park. If you think of the Park as a clock, Maggie's is at 6pm. Right in the center of the south side. On the north side of the street adjacent to the park. At a traffic light (for the road going south from the park).

Hollywood: north-west corner of Ritan Park. Hollywood is at 10pm (of the clock) at the north end of the street that is on the west side of the park. Across the street from the park. 40RMB entrance fee. About a 10 minute walk from Maggie's.

I live on the west side of Beijing near the Shangri-La where you will be staying. If traffic is moving good, you are still about 30 minutes away from most of the spots like Maggies, Den, HRC. On a bad traffic day, it has taken me as much as 90 minutes to get across town.

No subway near Shangrila and it is a %^&*( to get in and out of the hotel by cab.

With that said, the hotel is a true 5 star hotel. As far as action nearby, unless you speka Chinese or are with someone who does, I suggest you not try the west side.

Just my POV. I could be wrong.

Now I just need to find out what might be near the Shangri-La Hotel. There seem to be two Shangri-La's in Beijing. One is at the Kerry Center. The other (which I will be staying at) is on the opposite side of the city, between the third and fourth ring roads, not too far from the Summer Palace.

Anyone know how far from Maggies? Or from a very good massage establishment?
