Yeah, the ones I was talking about are more middle class establishments.

If the lowest price on the VIP membership board is higher than 3000, it's likely to be a place to show off how much money you have. If the entry point is 30,000 kwai, it's certain to be that. And that's not what I am looking for, so after seeing the VIP price, I'd move on.

They are still Chinese enterprises, so there'll be the same efforts to overcharge, upsell and over promise / under deliver as in any Chinese enterprise catering to a primarily Chinese clientele. And don't expect "model" caliber girls in a middle class establishment. But from long practice, some of the girls have excellent massage skills.

On second thought, that is not far from the "non VIP" price at the Massage Spa about two avenues north of BLCU, in the big KTV next to the Merry Mart shopping center. But they'd almost never charge that, since they are loathe to book anything above an "erotic" massage to someone without a VIP card. The VIP membership is a 14% discount (so 86% of the nominal full price), and then a further sliding discount based on how much you sign up for. They advertise 3000 RMB getting a 1000 RMB bonus and 5000 RMB getting a 2000 RMB bonus (But have been known to be talked into a 500 RMB bonus for a 2000 RMB deposit). So all up, with 3000 RMB put on a VIP card, that is about 65% of the nominal list price.

The 400 list vegetarian oil massage and 600 list "erotic" massage (where the massage girl attempts to generate enough stimulation for a happy ending but stops short of a hand job), come with use of the shower but not the hot soak and bubble bath with personal attention of the massage girl. Then there are three levels of "spa" service, all with hot soak and bubble bath, level three for 700 RMB list, 600 RMB VIP (discounted by whatever bonus for pay in advance) is the oil massage and hand job, level two for 1200 RMB list, 1000 RMB VIP is the oil massage with a bit of body to body massage and titty fuck, and I assume the level one is full service, which affair is about 1400 RMB list, so around 1200 VIP. And the quality of the massage is variable with the girl for the spa services. A regular customer would want to learn the numbers of the different girls to ask for the ones that do a better job on the massage part.

I would not be surprised if they are exactly the same girls that show up to your home / hotel if you call the right number, advertised with someone else's picture and with an age that is 5-10 years younger than they really are. The only reasons to go is that you actually also want a massage, or you are not free to call a girl to your home / hotel.

If you want to avoid pay in advance and just want an oil massage and hand relief, there is a "spa" by the south gate of Tsinghua that does that, it advertises a cheap foot massage out front and shares the street entrance with a laundry, about two bus stops east of the Wudaokou stop on Line 13.600 RMB for oil massage and happy ending, but don't expect more than a hand job to be available, and the "spa" is a hand shower attachment in one of the toilet stalls. And if you want to negotiate your own price and service with the massage girl, the massage spa down near the end of the street just east of the Wudaokou Line 13 stop (when you see the one that is closed with a lock and an official shutdown notice, you are about halfway there), near the last stop on the 398 bus route south, has a spa oil massage with a tub for 500 RMB, but anything more than a massage is negotiated with the massage girl at the flip. I was quoted an outrageous price for a hand job, but the teasing part of the message before the quote was too effective, and it was already unnecessary. I assume it was normal Chinese market stall strategy of quoting five times the price you want and if the silly laowai insists on half you get a big bonus anyway.

But go north of the 5th Ring Road, say to Huilongguanzhen in Changping, a block and a half north of the Huilongguan exit on Line 13 on Wenhua road, and a oil massage with hand relief is 500 RMB, no VIP card or negotiation with the massage girl required. Though I'd expect a VIP plan and discount would be available. I didn't exactly take notes, but I expect the body to body and full service massages are similarly lower priced than they are between the 3rd and 4th Ring Road in Haidian.

The shift in the market is due to government policy. Heaven may be high and the emperor may be far away for most of China, but inside the 5th Ring Road in Beijing, the Emperor is uncomfortably close at hand. The government has seemed to have decided that red light activities are not part of the "capital city functions" that are slated for inside the 5th Ring Road and, like the best fabric and textile markets, have taken action to drive the best of them out of town.

I'm officially declaring Beijing one of the worst if not the worst city in Asia for Mongering. I have been all over Asia many times and I can safely say, Beijing is in a race to the bottom in terms of Value (quality / price).

When the highlight of the board is a chubby Chinese rated 5 charging 700 rmb or a Mongolian charging 1500 to 3000 rmb, something is terribly wrong.

I don't want to be a tree huger but in the year 2000 to 2010, you could find Chinese 8, 9 10 , Thai and other nationalities. All over Beijing (no need to list the places, old-timers knows them well). The Mongolians at old Maggies were one of the options and had to be competitive on price and service. And they were because you had many possibilities within few miles.
