North China - Beijing

I have a one night stop over in Beijing and am looking for a 4 or 5 star hotel a short taxi ride to Ritan Park. Does anyone have recommendations? Don't want to spend more than about 700 RMB.

Also, I've RTFF and haven't seen much discussion on hotel lobby action recently. Are there any hotels that are particularly good for this (doesn't have to be in the Ritan Park area). I used to stay at the Grand Hyatt and there were many attractive choices there working the hotel lobby bar.

I agree with the majority. We are tired of hearing the pricing. As everyone knows there are different rates and different quality of girls. No one argues that a Russian in BJ costs $200 USD but feel that a great Mongolian isn't worth 1000 RMB for LT. Chinese possibly 800 RMB LT. I remember staying at a high end Macau hotel for the first time. I asked for something, got it, and tipped the maid. She was like "WTF, this is not necessary." Tipping is NOT necessary or expected in many Asian countries, well aside from Tour Groups, which is stated and told up-front. But I understand about tipping a WG. She worked hard and gave thumbs up service. Let her work for the tip instead of agreeing to the outrageous standard prices.

China is a bargaining society. Meaning they inflate prices expecting you to counter and set your own prices. Often they'll still make a profit, but at least the customer get the illusion that he's made a great deal. And yeah, prices are different every minute, so you-make-your-own-miles. Bargain with the WG based on information you've learned (ie, do some RTTF) and let her know that perhaps tips are a-coming (like a carrot hanging in front of the horse's mouth).

If you were using Google to find a proxy you were out of luck as it was blocked for a couple of day s. Better to get a VPN.
