I am just back from the capital. Since I am from the south I don't see any special urge to venture out for expensive sex.

I noted that Beijing (I don't use the abbreviations "BJ" to avoid confusion) seems cleaner then before. I didn't see many of the red light BBS, there are still some though, but expect to spend more time finding them.

I also didn't explore the bar scene much. What I noted while walking near the King Wing Hotel in Chaoyang - no girls approached me. Only one guy offered "massage".

Take it easy. Judging from your posts, I assume that you are relatively new to the world of 'commercial sex' (My apologies, if not).

I think you hit it right on the head, that is what I said I am stupid, yes sure this is actually my first time and immediately I get feeling, easy to happen. Young sweet girl, high demand on my side, mindblowing sex and you act like a fool. Still difficult to accept and I think nobody really stays cool if you find out the girl you love is sleeping with other men for money (basically right before your eyes). It does not make a real difference whether it are 2 or 20 or even 200 other men, it does not even make a huge difference if she loves you too, as you rightly said she has made a certain choice for earning her living, of course influenced by difficult circumstances. We are just a temporary part of this, her life. The more GF it gets, the closer you get to the flame, the easier you burn. I am in the process of accepting this, but it will take time, having been with her for almost 3 months, basically living together whenever I was in Beijing and having had more fun and sex in this time than in the last years (sounds worse than it actually is I have no miserable live at all, do not get me wrong). This is nothing that goes overnight. We will see how this develops, hope I really learned my lesson, which is also something on Chinese culture, do not confront them with the fact you know what they really are, they also live in a world they only partly accept so they can survive, no point in stating it, it just will hurt both of you without any positive effect.

Yes, this is the key point. Demand for such services was never primarily from foreigners. The industry didn't develop here in response to foreign demand. Perhaps a certain subset of the industry caters mainly to foreign clientele, but fundamentally no crackdown aimed at Maggie's and other foreigner access points (in prep for Olympics, etc) will succeed in quashing out the supply of action because there is native demand, so insiders will always a find a way to buy and sell. I think the main problem of 10th floor is to grasp the concept that it is very possible to spot BBS (or whatever) from pretty much any mode of transportation - a cab, bus, bike and even when walking by on foot (no joke, really) - when getting from A to B. He confuses (for whatever reason) the mere opportunity when one spots these places with "being out mongering" or something like that.

I assume that TenthFloor's reference to "another joker a few weeks [ago who] recommended go mongering by public bus" was directed at me, but clearly this is the next step if you're budget-conscious but want regular action.

It is not just a budget issue. I explore pretty much any Chinese city by bike as much as I can.

The thing is that even with a taxi, which I of course could ask to stop plain anywhere I whiz by, it is just too much of a hassle usually to do so. Starts with parking not always being allowed over stopping for nothing because on a second look you figure out what looked interesting when driving by turns out a dud to hailing a new cab after your inquiry.

With my bike I plain stop wherever I like, park it wherever I like and it is (usually) waiting for me as long as I like. Works like a charm for whatever I may like to investigate - DVD shops, eateries, BBS, whatever. My report about some of the BBS scene in Beijing from last year would have been at best half as long without my bike.
