Am currently back in Chengdu staying at the Shang.

The other night I ordered the in room massage. Foolishly thought it might be legit. The girl arrived in my room and immediately asked if I wanted the special. She seemed pretty nice and we agreed on RMB800. I thought she had a nice rack and boy was I pleased when she stripped off. The biggest pair of breasts I have ever seen on a Chinese girl. I think i was save by the club being in the Sheraton building, not being totally plastered and being 198cm tall and 120kg.
In a bizaare follow up I was contacted by someone purporting to be the owner of the club who was extremely apologetic. He said he had suspended the guy involved for a month and would make sure Western credit cards are taken. Finally he offer a night at the club on them the next time I am in Chengdu.

May be a while, not sure i should risk going back! BSK

Be very careful in Chengdu! As I had stated in my previous reports in Chengdu. The city is littered with scam KTV/Sauna places. Try to stay only in the high end hotels, 5 star hotels only when you are trying to experience the KTV scene.

On my last night, I was on my own, rest of contingent having left town to travel in another direction, so decided to venture down on a week night
(Mistake 1#, always take a friend).

I arrived and was enthusiastically greeted by the staff and sat down in the main area, which consists of a stage (not in use on this week night) and several clusters of seats. They asked if I would like a drink, I asked for a beer, they brought Heineken (38RMB). Tout comes to ask about requirements etc - I think his name was Chang-Sze. Suggests I meet girls - line up of five, couple in coats clearly about to head home because of limited action (2 VIP rooms in use).

This was an impressive line up, all 7/10 or better. Chang-Sze says "take two to make party" - 300RMB each.

(Mistake 2# - this was over the money and I should have negotiated. I also figured that there the tout's cut in there somewhere).

So I pick Ching-Ching 20 yo from Chengdu, some English and ask her to pick a friend from the others. Lilly also 20yo steps forward - she is shortest at 150cm and kind of cubit dollish but very nice with moderate English. I order six beers (228RMB) and a fruit platter (128RMB) and ask about a room charge (fang fei) - no room charge I am told.

Ok so off we go to room, after a slow start we have a great time, both girls very good at singing and generally fairly physical. Lilly I would rate a 7/10, her picture does not do her justice but she had very nice skin and was great to chat with. Ching-Ching was physically hot - 8.5/10. She is very slim with large breasts: I figured they were fake; I spent some time before, during and after the singing trying to work this out. Still not sure. If they are not fake, she's a 9.5.

It reached 2am and it was time to go. I still had not decided on take out or not. I went to address the bill which was presented as 1247RMB ... hmm. I went to the counter and thought, I should just pay and get out of here with an inkling of an idea that it might be good to examine Ching-Ching more closely in my room. I had asked whether they take credit cards - YES - but they omitted to add they only take Chinese credit cards (UnionBay) and not MC, VC or AX

(Mistake 3#). Ok so the bill is inflated to the point where I don't have enough cash on me and they can't access my cards.

The manager lady starts giving it to Chang-Sze in Chinese.
He says, we must go to bank.
So we go outside where a taxi is waiting ...
Do I get in? - NO WAY!!

I suggest we take it inside to the hotel where I am staying. He is reluctant but I walk and give him no choice and the henchmen around disappear as we go into hotel. I ask for night manager, she comes out and speaks to them - asks for itemized bill (I already did ask fornthis but

Itemized bill includes 300MB "tip" for tout and charges for cigarettes he smoked for 47RMB (no one else in room smoked). The hotel night manager looks at me and asks if I am happy to settle or whether she needs to call Police to assist me?! So I agreed to pay the bill less amounts for tip and cigarettes. Ends up around 900RMB.

I give a tip to Lilly who is still standing there and same tip to tout after he asked. I told him I would have tipped in cash and for more if he had not tried to scam me.

I am still wondering if Ching-Ching's tits are real and very much liked Lilly.

Summary:
Lots of mistakes but this may give insight into Chinese KTV issues for new guys.
The girls were actually very high quality.
The business side of things let a lot to be desired.
Check your bills and be careful.
Don't get in a taxi with these guys unless you want to be an organ donor or just fondly remembered.

Having spent a great deal of time and money in Chengdu KTV's and also having become intimate friends with one of the mamasan's at a place I frequented, I hope I clarify a few things for you.

1) Pricing: 300 RMB for a 'sitting fee' is not necessarily over the money; the standard sitting fee for most decent KTV's ranges from 200 RMB to 400 RMB. I haven't heard of any rule where two girls are required though; this may be a house rule, as they are perhaps reluctant to give up a room to just one person (most people go to KTV's in groups). This is something which you can probably just argue about, especially if business is not good.

2) Fee for the tout: Paying a fee for the mamasan who brought you the girls is not unknown, and the fee is usually the same as a sitting fee, especially if they spent time hanging out or drinking a lot with you. Since there appeared to be no mamasan, the tout seems to have taken up the role and also intends to collect the money. HOWEVER, the 300 RMB for the mamasan is totally optional and solely at the discretion of the customer, unlike the fees for the girls and the drinks. It is bad form for them to put it into the bill as a total, or, for that matter, the fees for the girls; usually, the 'bill' they bring out should only include the fees for the drinks and any dishes ordered, with the tips to the girls and/or mamasan made out separately. Are you Caucasian? My best guess is that they wanted to 'streamline' the payment process for you, and if the tout ensured the mamasan tip for himself in the process, so much the better.

3) Cigarettes: Again, bad form, but not necessarily a 'scam'; it's not uncommon for people to order things like cigarettes or food, but it's always polite to ask first.

Personal conclusion: KTV's with girls in China, especially in nice places, are almost exclusively the playground of rich businessmen, who are expected to not care about certain types of behavior which people on this board would probably characterize as 'fleecing' or 'ripping off', especially since they are usually with friends or business associates; it'd cost them way too much face to quibble over a few hundred measly RMB. As a white person, you are automatically expected to have money, and they may expect you to behave with the same attitude. In your post, there was a great deal of bad form (ie, ordering cigarettes without asking, putting the tips in the actual itemized bill), but it doesn't sound like they were intentionally trying to really 'fleece' you. So don't feel too negatively towards the place, or Chengdu KTV's in general

So I got back to the Shangri-la a few days ago. Seems their "hair salon" is still running. Picked up a girl I met in July. Had her cell number and had warned her of my imminent return. She turned up at my door on my second evening within minutes of me texting her.

I have mentioned her in a previous Chengdu post. Nice breasts, nice body and nice attitude. Alas the attitude has changed. She started off by asking for RMB 1000. Previously we had agreed on RMB 800 and I was expecting to pay less this time around. I told her RMB 800 tops and she agreed but with that special Chinese sad look. I thought I was going to be in for a rough ride but things went very well. I would say a definite 8 out of 10 performance. BBBJ, cat bath, numerous positions.

The whole idea left me cold and I told her no. I really did not see the point in tying myself down, especially if it was obviously going to get messy. She left my room seemingly fine with this. Next day she started texting and calling my cell. I told her no repeatedly and reminded her of our previous conversation. Needless to say she has turned into a bit of a nightmare clinger. A valuable lesson learned on the drawbacks of using regulars. Girls can easily get the wrong idea! Especially younger small town ones. My Beijing regulars are far more professional.

I thought this might be of interest to fellow mongers. On the up side, there seems to be plenty of SW action around the Shangri-la. Will keep you posted on developments.

I personally have been scammed in Chengdu myself. People promising $200 RMB for full service etc. But when you leave they hit you with a bill for $1800 RMB. They basically surround you and make you pay or else your in for a big beat down!

So you were extremely lucky that they allowed you to walk back to your hotel. Most of the time they will just surround you with a bunch of guys, not allowing you to leave their establishment. But since you got out of that situation, you were extremely lucky! Also good thinking about not getting into their taxi. Because that could just lead to a whole array of trouble.

I'm telling you Chengdu is not a very safe place to be in this hobby, unless you are fluent in Chinese and know the area and people pretty well.

But I suspect that with the economy on the downturn, when people cannot find jobs, then people will resort to these types of trickery and scams. I have heard from friends of these types of cases in Sanya in Hainan Island as well.

But best to always be safe in China, chengdu is well known to have lots of gang-related activities. The exterior seems to be the contrary, but my friend who is from Chengdu and lived there all his life tells me so.

I returned here to check this out late on a weekday afternoon. Had been walking so wanted a foot massage.

I signed on for 45 mins "mu zu" or "an jiao" for 48RMB although there are longer options for 58 and 68RMB. Excellent service from a 20 yo Chengdu girl named She She (as in thank you). Highly recommended. She does not consider herself a "piao liang nv", beautiful girl - "wo bu dong" she said, which I think means a "I am not a beauty". In any case, it was good.

Suitably relaxed, I then went for the VIP option in the rooms on the other side of the elevators. Yan 25 yo Chengdu girl very pretty face, small breasts with very large nipples, picture postcard rear end. 8/10. Performance adequate, very nice but reluctant on BBBJ and had size problem with FS. Got me there, it was OK. We had a nice chat afterwards in limited language.

This place generally is looking a bit run down. Yan was telling me that girls previously came from other parts of China - not so common since the earth quake. May explain some things since all the girls this time were from Chengdu, as opposed to less than 50% on prior trips.

Return to CTU after more than a year.
Arrived mid afternoon and took a nap, overslept and woke up at 1am then could not sleep.
Got room service and then decided to go to CSS on Wufeng as previously reported:
Not too horny so opted to clean up and have a pedicure (28 RMB), manicure (28 RMB), beer (pidjo, 28RMB) then a noodle snack (gao mian 15RMB). Fell asleep in reclining area and woke about 5am with hard-on.

Ask for VIP massage (688RMB): taken to VIP room area: 23 yo Chengdu girl Tao Tao (Chinese word for condom but that was her name) 164cm tall slim, small but shapely breasts overall 7/10. I then made my way to the north gate of Xinhua Park. The taxi driver was a total muppet and did not know the name of the park, but I found it by getting him to drive in the right direction, and on the ring road soon saw signs to it. T

I therefore went back to my hotel, and made use of the in house massage service. I actually went down to where it was however I could also have stayed in my room, as they also called (it was a budget hotel).
