Back to my hotel KTV last night. Took a bottle of Captain Morgans with me (because I am a frequent customer and a friend of the owner, I can take my own into the KTV) , and mixed it with cola. I go China four to five times each year, and although I am not the experienced monger that some the poster's are, I'll give some general information on my experiences in KTV'S in Weihai. And yes, this is the only city in China I can comment on!

I do not speak, other than a few words, Mandarin, but use my iphone translator, Jibbgo, to good advantage. Jibbgo does not need an internet or any connection as it's all on the phone. It's not quite as good as the wifi translators, but makes up for it by not having outlandish data charges. And yes, it speaks both ways and translates both ways. I'm not selling it, just telling you what I use.

I have been to three KTV's in Weihai, one of them a few times, one many times and one only once. Now I am an old guy who (I'm told) doesn't look or age his true age (lets just leave it there). I have taken many girls from the KTV's and always for LT (I happen to like a sweet young thing next to me for the night). I have done a double a few times, (sometimes at my suggestion and sometimes at theirs) , and most of the time a double in China is not what we hope for, it's a 1 and then 1 deal, although I have had a "real" LT double once in China, but it cost me a bundle! Now what I usually do is pay one to sit and then one to LT with, (count on the Mamasan to tell you which is which). New to China and furthermore to an 'unknown' city like Yantai can be quite adventures. Nevertheless being abroad before I just took my chance and went there. Now after nearly three months working I start to settle down and try to figure out what to do besides of working in this city.

I did quite an intensive RTTF just to get to know the local habits; even there are not many reports about Yantai. But as a Newbie I just don't want to ask too many stupid questions. But in Yantai there is the so called 'Bar Street' (Chao Yang Jie, all the taxi driver know this street). There are a couple bars which are cosy. If you google about Yantai in general you will find reports about the Druids' Irish Pub in this street and exactly there it was my starting point.

Druids' Irish Pub but as well all the other pubs here are frequently visited by foreigners who worked in shipyard or on oil platform. So there are always girls working in the bar to animate the guys to drink. Most of the working girls in these bars (but not all) can speak reasonably good English so the lack of language is not the big barrier anymore. I am not sure if Yantai qualifies as North China, but it is close enough for me. I have made two visits recently and was able to find something acceptable in the Spa category.
